President s Message October 2015 As you have noticed on the cover, there are no meetings in October. I am going to the AACA Eastern Regional Fall Meet put on by the Hershey Region AACA in Hershey, Pennsylvania, more often just referred to as the Hershey Fall Meet. Many of our members make this trip every year and have a great time and often find cars or parts that they didn t even know they needed! I hope you too can go to Hershey. This is always the first full week in October. See you in Hershey! Our September meeting was at the home of Tim Swingle in Wethersfield. Tim has an interesting collection of twenty one cars that he has acquired over many years. He is the second owner of every car and most of them are in original condition. We saw a beautiful MG which was the only restored car. Others on display at Tim s home were a Chevy Caprice wagon with a factory Corvette engine, a Rolls Royce, a couple of Mercedes and a later model Mustang, all of which are in great condition. Tim said the rest of his collection is stored in Travis Cook, President garages throughout the neighborhood. Tim is a collector of many other things and also maintains beautiful gardens around his home. Many thanks to Dan Fine for setting up this meeting. It is with sadness that I inform you of the passing of CCR member Jerry Olson on September 28, 2015. Jerry was a long-time CCR member and was very active in the club until his recent illness. He enjoyed restoring and driving classic cars and was the proud owner of a 1965 Corvette convertible and an early Pontiac GTO. I want to extend best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to CCR member Tim Sullivan who was recently operated on. Our November meeting will be at Capitol Transmission in Hartford on November 12 th. Please do your best to arrive no later that 6:00 PM. This is always a very interesting place to visit because the guys know, and work on, transmissions from the classics right up to the latest models and have answers to your problems. The position of Club Historian is open and is an opportunity for someone to step up and fill this important and interesting job. Please let me know if you would be interested. We need meeting places for our 2016 calendar. interesting place to visit for a club meeting. Please contact me or any board member if you have an And, last but not forgotten, it is time to renew our memberships for 2016 using the attached form. Our next meeting will be: Until next time safe motoring! Central Connecticut Region AACA Board of Directors Meeting September 1, 2015 Fox Laminating, West Hartford Secretary's Report was read (for June) and accepted Treasurer's Report (June & July) was read and accepted OLD BUSINESS The club is looking for one member to join the Board of Directors. We have an opening. If a member in good standing would like to contribute to the club, think about joining the BOD. NEW BUSINESS The Board decided to put off forming a list of charities until the November meeting. If anyone has a charity that they think is worthwhile let someone on the board know and it will be considered. We try and keep the funds that we donate to local organizations. We discussed the situation of people coming in from the hotel side and not paying. Also the problem of hotel guest parking in our show area the night before. This is a problem that has persisted over the years. We have talked to the hotel in the past, and got a "YA YA OK", response and nothing has changed. More discussion on this will take place in October. We are looking for a solution. For the past few years the meet book we put together has helped us be in the black at the end of the day. Our revenues from show cars and walk-ins have gone down. Other major shows in Connecticut have better advertising. Plus it is hard to compete with cruise nights held every night during the summer. A big thank you to the members who get the ads for our meet book. Meeting adjourned 7:45 PM Secretary, Paul Bosco Al's Trivia October 2015 (answers on page 6) 1.
