The crater s high walls serve as a natural enclosure for an abundance of wildlife. All the so-called big five may be seen and amongst the notable birds are Lammergeyer, Vereaux s Eagle and Egyptian Vulture, which make their home in the highest of the crater wall, the beautiful Rosy-breasted Longclaw which appears on the plains after rains and flocks of lesser and greater Flamingo s, which are spasmodic visitors to the crater lakes. Picnic lunch in a scenic spot is included. Afterwards, return to Gibbs Farm for dinner and a second night. Day 10 Wednesday 23 January Breakfast and check out. Today the safari highlight begins as you head into the famous Serengeti National Park and to your Sanctuary safari camp located in the Southern Serengeti where a picnic lunch will be served. Serengeti National Park is Tanzania s oldest and most popular national park. Its name means endless plain in the Masai language. It is from here that massive concentrations of wildebeest, zebras and other animals commence the annual Great Migration in search of pastures new, providing one of the greatest natural spectacles to be found anywhere in the world! You can watch the golden-maned lions stalking the migration herds, spot leopards at rest in trees at dusk and take a hot-air balloon tour (optional extra) at dawn as the sun s golden rays illuminate the land. Day 11 Thursday 24 January As the sun rises in the Serengeti, make the most of the game viewing and either order a picnic breakfast as this is generally the best time to spot the wildlife, as the temperature is cooler and the animals are very active, including big cats, which will be returning from a night of hunting. Or maybe a picnic lunch to spend the day looking for game whilst enjoying the magic that the park has to offer. Later back at camp, dinner is served and enjoy evening drinks around the camp fire the perfect way to discuss the day s events! Day 12 Friday 25 January A second day to enjoy the National Park and great game viewing all meals included!
