Vol. 31 No. 6 June 2018 God Bless America The Long Island Single Sailor s Association.. Our 31st Year Dedicated to Sailing and Boating Commodore s Corner Howard Marks It s June and the summer is almost here. Warmer days are already here, and it couldn t be soon enough. June is when the LISSA Summer calendar swings into action. Please take notes.. Theater: On The Town (Payment Cut-Off Date - June 7 th ) Show is on Saturday, June 23rd, at 8:00 PM, at the Noel S. Ruiz Theater, CM Performing Arts Center, 931 Montauk Hwy, Oakdale. This is an award winning musical about sailors on leave in New York. That s a fun-filled disaster in the making. LOL. It s a great show. Tickets are - $25.00. To reserve your seat, please mail your check, payable to CM PAC, to arrive Carol Blair by June 7th, the latest. Twelve tickets are being held for LISSA until June 7th, after which they will be returned to the CM Performing Arts Center for sale to the public. Again, tickets will sell fast. Don t wait. Don t miss the show. (See flyer) The Vanderbilt Museum and Planetarium trip will be on Sat. June 9th. $15.00 This mansion is one of the greatest North Shore mansions on Long Island. Bill Caputi has arranged a wonderful day there starting with a show at the Planetarium at 2:00 PM and then a tour of the Mansion at 4:00 PM. It is worth noting that Bill plays the organ and will be playing a few pieces for us on the mansion s grand church-like organ. I heard him play it last summer. The sound of the thing is spectacular. The $15.00 ticket price covers the Planetarium and the Mansion tour. Bill will meet us at the ticket booth at the Planetarium at 1:30 PM. He has 8 free tickets and so, we will spread the amount of the free tickets equally among all those who arrive at the planetarium ticket booth by 1:30 PM. After the show, we ll make our way to the Mansion and take the 4 PM Tour. Hope to see you there. Bring lunch. Henry s Beach Party - Hey folks, we love beach parties, don t we. June 28 th, 2:00 PM. Henry Honigman has volunteered to host a LISSA Beach Party at Short Beach Town Park. He runs the beach and the pavilion and has invited LISSA to enjoy a picnic there from 2 PM on. Come one come all! Please carpool, because the parking space is limited. This is a BYOE event. There are grills to BBQ your hamburgers, hot dogs or chicken. Bring whatever you want to drink. Please keep wine bottles and beer cans IN your cooler. There are tables, but bring a beach chair. Enjoy the sun, and the summer day. It s a great locale. Please call Henry ASAP to let him know you are coming. His number is (631) 259-5854. The Ducks Game Payment Deadline - June 11 th. Please know that these group tickets must be purchased one month in advance. This is important to know. If you want to go to the game, you will have to mail your $12.00 ticket payment, payable to LIS- SA, to arrive Peter Aiello by June 11 th. Seats are field level, third base side. Let s go folks. Let s go Ducks. Don t wait. (Game is on July 11 th - See flyer) Crab Meadow, Saturday, July 21st. Anita will host our kick-off summer event this year. As usual, she will need help. Please call her to help with the shopping and salad making. There s plenty to unload from the cars and plenty of watermelon slicing and chicken cutting to do in preparation for eating. This is a prepaid event. Cost: $25.00. Please make check payable to LISSA and mail to arrive Anita by July 12 th. If you want to help with the grill, please call Anita Castorina ASAP. And Frank Borrero will be our DJ and I have to hand it to him He always does an exceptional job running the show, spinning the tunes, dancing up a storm and being Frank. The calendar for August is entirely open. If you want to run an event, or suggest an event, please let us know. You don t necessarily have to host it, but the idea will be most appreciated. Thanks so much. See You All - Out There!

Café Havana is very nicely decorated. The staff is adorable, the parking plentiful and the food, as it finally turned out, delicious. But, where, on God s green earth, can one go to order dinner and then wait for 2 hours for it to be served? Café Havana, of course. Where did they go - Cuba? Thankfully, we are a mature bunch and were quite civil about it, enjoying the conversation and the friendships we ve made throughout the years. And, of course, that s the real reason we get together anyway. When things don t go the way we expect them to, the glass can always be half full. A hearty thank you to Kathyann Peccia for hosting it...howard
