European Tourism Indicators System Mali Lošinj had become one of the first destination in Croatia that participated in the pilot project entitled European Tourism Indicator System. Lošinj, in addition to the compulsory indicators, has also started to measure noncompulsory indicators, and has included them in the founding document. Accepting it on the Town s Council of the Town of Mali Lošinj, ETIS became the basic document with binding on a comparison in previous years in each indicator.

Award of the European Commission for Sustainable Development Bruxelles, April 22nd 2016., Mali Lošinj won the prize of European Tourism Indicators System (ETIS) for sustainability and accessible tourism management, specifically for the width and depth of collected date of the practices of sustainable tourism on the island Ljubljana, Global Green Destinatons day, September 27th 2016., Sustainable Destinations TOP 100 - an award for responsible and sustainable development of tourism The Present and the Future of Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, 24 25 April, Zagreb

The Present and the Future of Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, 24 25 April, Zagreb

Future of ETIS within NECSTouR European Tourism Indicators System for sustainable destinations is an European Commission project, which after a successful pilot phase, continues to monitor the development of ETIS However, the development of ETIS and its further direction depends on the destinations and how will ETIS be legitimized ETIS Workshop, Ljubljanja 28.9.2016., Global Green Destination Day NECSTouR Network of European Regions for a Sustainable and Competitive Tourism, created in 2008 and brings together regional tourism associations with universities and representatives of sustainable and responsible tourism tourist organizations. Joining NECSTouR as an associate member is the first step to create ETIS Destination Committee and thus to legitimize ETIS and to continue further development and cooperation in the field of sustainable tourism. EDC (ETIS Destination Committe) capitalize the experiences of measuring and monitoring sustainable tourism performances at destination level, using a common methodology and tool, such as ETIS - being able to compare and to do benchmarking among destinations The Present and the Future of Sustainable and Responsible Tourism, 24 25 April, Zagreb

The Blue World Institute on island Losinj in cooperation with the Town of Mali Losinj and Tourist Board is contributing to the research and conservation of the marine environment through public awareness and education. The Blue World was formed with the direct intention to take over the research and public awareness actions of the Adriatic Dolphin Project (ADP) started and managed by Tethys Research Institute in 1987. Blue World was founded in 1999 by 10 founders, mostly local but all involved in ADP during previous years. Presently, Blue World carries out three major programs, research, conservation and education.

The current priorities are: - Continuation of the work of Adriatic Dolphin Project, the longest ongoing study of one resident bottlenose dolphin community in the Mediterranean Sea - Establishment and promotion of the Lošinj Dolphin Reserve, a marine reserve in Lošinj - Cres archipelago, sustainable development and integrated coastal management of the area - Management and continuous content development of the Lošinj Marine Education Center (LMEC), a local education and interpretation center on marine environment and bottlenose dolphin community inhabiting the area opened in 2003. - Securing financial stability of the ADP and LMEC through activities, programs, donations and sponsorships - Creation of a public awareness team from the local community and expansion of the educational activities - Promotion and encouragement of sustainable use of the resources found within the Lošinj archipelago - Expansion of the research area and opening of new research and new field bases in Central and Southern Adriatic.
