Victoria Gardens. The Claisebrook bank of the Derbarl Yerrigan (Swan River) has always been a sacred meeting place for the Noongar people. A dreaming track meanders along the water s edge. 0 Willem de Vlamingh Memorial Statue (00), (E) Artist: The Smith Sculptors Barrack Square This memorial commemorates the epic voyage from Amsterdam, of Willem de Vlamingh and his fleet who mapped the west coast of Australia in 9. A giant sundial with two clock faces showing Perth time and Amsterdam time is a living link in space and time between Holland and Australia. Inspired by the channel markers used to aid in river navigation and constructed from jarrah timber salvaged from the demolition of warehouses on the site. Cnr Hay Street & Forrest Ave. Constructed using hand-forged and welded steel, the five metre sculpture takes the form of a wrought iron Banksia tree. Yagan (98), (H) Artist: Robert Hitchcock. Heirisson Island. This statue was installed to commemorate Yagan, a courageous Noongar tribal leader. The Sea Queen (99), (G) Artists: Tony Jones, with Matt Dickmann. Claisebrook Cove. The artist s childhood, learning to sail, playing, swimming and fishing in the Swan River was inspiration for this work constructed from recycled jarrah and old boat parts. Eliza (00 ), (C) Artists: Tony Jones and Ben Jones. Crawley Bay. Eliza is a reminder of the Crawley baths, built in 9 and central to aquatic activities in Perth as a training pool for many champions, a centre for swimming, lifesaving and recreation. The baths were demolished in 9 with the advent of modern Olympic style pools.
