Doug was educated at Rhodes University in the Eastern Cape Province where he earned a BSC in zoology and botany. After teaching high school sciences and coaching rugby and cricket teams for several years, Doug founded his own guiding service. His vibrant personality, interpretive skills and commanding presence are an asset as a private guide through one of the most beautiful and cultural interesting regions in Africa. Doug s passion for South Africa - its people, flora and fauna - is inspiring for both first time visitors and for those who return again and again. Doug has an exceptional knowledge of the Western Cape and loves introducing guests to his colleagues, winemakers and township residents. For me, it is an absolute privilege to host Wildland travelers and give them a sense of what my little corner of Africa has to offer, says Doug, pictured below with his wife, Sarah. When time allows, I always try to get my friends or family involved in our tours. This may be a stop off at my home for coffee, a braai (BBQ) at my house with my family, or a friend or two joining us to watch a rugby game on TV. It is these special experiences where travelers stop being clients and become friends for life. Read Doug s story about a memorable experience with a Wildland family group. -2-

Itinerary in Detail DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN CAPE TOWN Arrive at Cape Town International Airport this morning and transfer for overnight at Gingko Guesthouse. Relax in the morning before an afternoon introduction to the city including the Malay Quarter, Houses of Parliament and a walk through the old Town Square bustling with the market traders. Free evening to explore the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the original Cape Town wharfs renovated as an upbeat gathering place full of restaurants, bars and cafes on the water. Overnight Gingko Guesthouse. [Meals on own] DAY 2: TWO OCEAN S COASTLINE AND KIRSTENBOSCH GARDENS This full day of exploration showcases the amazing coastline of the Cape Peninsula and the unique floral kingdom known as fynbos. Drive down the stunning Atlantic coastline stopping to photograph and walk along the white sands of Noordhoek Beach and among hamlets on the Atlantic Coast. A walk to the old lighthouse in the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve yields spectacular views of False Bay and possible sightings of Southern Right Whales that congregate to mate and calve (July - November). Visit Boulders Beach to view the African Jackass Penguins ands stop at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens for a magnificent display of native Cape flora. This unique Fynbos flora kingdom is of particular botanical interest because of the great number of species, more than in the whole of North America. Overnight Gingko Guesthouse. [BL] DAY 3: TABLE MOUNTAIN AND STELLENBOSCH WINE LANDS Start the day with a journey on the new Rotair cable car that takes under 5 minutes to reach the summit of Table Mountain, 3400 feet above sea level. Once at the top, views of the city and surrounds are spectacular. There is plenty of time to walk around, explore the various nature trails or just enjoy the view. Leaving the city behind, you have the rest of the day to explore South Africa s oldest wine route and visit some of the award wining estates that the region is famed for. Apart from the wine, Stellenbosch is a showcase of Cape Dutch architecture. Enjoy wine tasting, cellar tours and a picnic lunch on the immaculate laws of one of our favorite estates. Overnight Gingko Guesthouse. [BL] DAY 4: ROBBEN ISLAND AND TOWNSHIP TOUR As invited guests we visit the township of Guguletu hosted by the local community that initiated this project to share their personal history, lively music, and their hopes and aspirations on this personal tour organized by the community. Across the bay we visit Robben Island to learn about the history of the island and political prison where Nelson Mandela was held captive for two decades before his historic release in 1991. Return to Cape Town by ferry in time for a leisurely hike up Lion s Head to watch the sunset over this beautiful city. Overnight Gingko Guesthouse. [B] DAY 5 7: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK AND THE SABI SAND PRIVATE GAME RESERVE Transfer to Cape Town International Airport for your flight to Hoedspruit Airport. (Note: This flight is not included in the trip cost, we recommend that you book it as part of your international ticket) On arrival, transfer about 90 minutes into the Sabi Sand Game Reserve. Enjoy three days exploring this world-renowned area with its abundance of wildlife. Arathusa Lodge is situated in the private Sabi Sand Game Reserve, which forms part of the 2.2 million hectare Greater Kruger National Park. Offering comfortable, stylish accommodations in a warm and friendly atmosphere, you will have the opportunity to view a large and varied assortment of game, including rare species such as the endangered wild dog and cheetah. Your experienced game ranger and local Shangaan tracker are keen to share with you their extensive knowledge and love of the African bush. -3-

The typical day starts with an early morning game drive, then after breakfast a bush walk gives you the opportunity to learn about the smaller wonders of the veld. Conclude your afternoon game drive at a carefully selected natural site to enjoy a sundowner whilst watching the sunset over the awe-inspiring wilderness. Overnights Arathusa Lodge. [BLD] DAY 8: DEPART There is time for an early morning game drive and breakfast before your transfer back to Kruger Airport in time for your departure flights.
