Targets for Rail Transport in Greece Revitalization of Greek Railways Improvement of the level of service, in terms of time distance, comfort and quality Promotion of intermodality and combined transport operations increase of rail connectivity between nodal points (ports, industrial areas, etc) Provision of connectivity with the EU Rail Network, under the concept of interoperability Increase of rail safety reduction of rail accidents

Magnitude of Axis 22 Links the Eastern EU Member States by rail Improves connectivity between all the networks on the basis of common standards Constitutes the only connection from SE Europe (and Greece) to the heart of EU The completion of the Axis will promote intermodality & complementarity of modes across Europe, in an environmental friendly way

Magnitude of Axis 29 It is located at the crossroads between Europe, Africa & Asia It connects major Greek ports (Igoumenitsa( Igoumenitsa,, Thessaloniki, Volos, Piraeus, Kalamata, Astakos) ) with each other and with main rail routes to the rest of Europe It is based on the concept of intermodal operations between sea and rail transport The completion of the Axis will promote efficient & environmental friendly intermodal operations by rail and sea, especially in the field of freight transport across Europe
