UIW Writing and Technology Camp Camp Behavior, Polices, and Rules Summer 2015
Welcome to the UIW Writing and Technology Camp. Directed by faculty members in the Dreeben School of Education, this camp provides hands-on experiences in writing and the use of technology for students in grades 2-6. For the summer of 2015, campers will travel to the San Antonio Humane Society (see page 2 for dates) and will use this experience to complete a series of writing projects. This booklet is a guide for all parents who have enrolled their child(ren) in our program. Inside you will find exactly what to expect this summer as well as contact information, policies, and general rules. If you have any questions regarding our program, please feel free to contact me. General Rules Hours of Operation The camp will meet June 15 th -26 th, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-Noon. We will meet in the Gorman Building (#25 on map), room 119. The Gorman Building is easy to spot because it is the only building made of beige bricks. Enter campus here. - 3 -
Check in/check out For safety reasons we ask that parents/guardians walk their child(ren) into camp each day to sign them in. The camp will be held in room 119 of the Gorman Business and Education Building. Please take this time to verify who will be picking up the child(ren) at the end of the day. Only those adults designated on the registration form will be allowed to pick up campers. A picture ID will be required in order to confirm authorization. We will not release a child until an authorized person comes into the building and signs the child out. Registration For registration to be complete, payment must be made by credit card on the UIW website. A link for payment is provided on the homepage of the Dreeben School of Education. Required Forms The forms listed below are available on the homepage of the Dreeben School of Education. The listed forms need to be completed and brought to the first day of camp. UIW Liability Waiver UIW Media Consent and Release Form San Antonio Human Society Liability Waiver and Code of Conduct Form Dress Code We want our campers to be comfortable while enjoying the camp experience and ask that clothing that will disrupt the flow of normal camp operations not be worn. Items of clothing which expose bare midriffs, bare chests, undergarments, or that are transparent are prohibited. Tank tops with straps wider than one inch are permitted. Furthermore, the San Antonio Humane Society request that your child wear shorts of at least knee length or pants, and closed-toe shoes with rubber soles. Personal Toys/Games/Cell Phones Personal toys and games should not be brought to camp. Any items brought to camp are not the responsibility of the camp staff. Cell phone usage is NOT allowed - 4 -
during class hours, including making phone calls and sending text messages, unless approved by the camp instructors. Discipline All tools and supplies are the property of UIW and are expected to be returned each day. Good conduct is expected from all participants. Camp participants must remain polite and civil towards the other participants, instructors, and field trip hosts. No profanity, fighting, or horse-playing will be tolerated. Disciplinary action for violation of rules lies with the Director and may include dismissal from the camp. Parents/guardians will be contacted if the participant becomes unruly during camp. Participants who fail to comply with the camp rules will be dismissed and will not receive a refund. Field Trips A UIW shuttle will be used to visit the San Antonio Humane Society (4804 Fredericksburg Rd). The shuttle will transport campers from the University of the Incarnate Word to the animal shelter, and back to the University. While at the animal shelter your child(ren) will research an animal. This research will be used to complete a series of writing projects that incorporate a variety of technology tools. Field trips will occur on the following days: Tuesday, June 16 th Wednesday, June 17 th Thursday, June 18 th The shuttle will leave the UIW campus at 8:30am on the dates listed above. Campers will then return to the UIW campus before 12:00 (pickup time). Snacks A snack will be provided each day for your child(ren). Please inform camp staff of any food allergies or restrictions. - 5 -
