CITY OF DERRY INTERNATIONAL CHOIR FESTIVAL 24-28 OCTOBER 2018 Following the success of the first five editions of the City of Derry International Choir Festival, it returns again this autumn with an impressive and diverse line-up of international choirs from Europe and for the first time, South America. Aside from the competitive focus, the city comes alive with pop-up performances and high-quality concerts. MUST SEE / MUST DO DONEGAL & DERRY Malin Head - Ireland s most northerly point Catch a cloudless evening and you may be enchanted by a night sky display of the Aurora Borealis, the Northern Lights. The celestial light show, with its ghostly wispy rays of dancing colours has been seen hanging like a fluorescent curtain over Malin Head what better reason to go than to witness this astonishing sight. Grianán of Aileach - Awaken your mystical spirit Perched 800 ft. above sea level on a spectacular hilltop, the Grianán of Aileach fort is a former home of the Irish High Kings. The origins of this circular site are believed to date from around 1700 BC. Although it has important connections with the ancient monasteries of Donegal, its history stretches far beyond the era of Christianity and is steeped in legend. Doagh Famine Village - A museum like no other Doagh Famine Village tells the story of Irish life from the Great Famine of the 1840s through until the present day. The tour guides will take you on a journey showing how families and communities have lived on the edge generation after generation, adapting and surviving as the environment and society around the local area changed over the years. www.doaghfaminevillage.com Fanad Lighthouse - Out on the Edge Located on the north coast of Donegal between Lough Swilly and Mulroy Bay. Its claims to fame include one of the world s most beautiful lighthouses. To reach the headland, travel along Knockalla Coast Road, a route with some stunning panoramas. DUBAI DUTY FREE IRISH OPEN 2018 GETTING HERE Fans travelling to the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation will enjoy a convenient door-to-door experience, with free public parking located right on the hallowed grounds of Ballyliffin Golf Club. The on-site parking is free for all spectators. Fans attending have been urged to follow event signage. Those travelling from the East should travel via Derry/Londonderry and Quigley s Point while West traffic should travel via Buncrana. Free buses will transport fans from Carndonagh and Buncrana to Ballyliffin Golf Club during tournament days, with timings to be announced at a future date.
