DAY 1: DEPART - HOME Overnight flight DAY 2: WELCOME TO SOUTH AFRICA! Late arrival: Cape Town DAY 3: CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA As South Africa's most visited and arguably most beautiful city, Cape Town will serve as our jumping off point for the trip. After spending our first morning together we will take our private car to the base of Tabletop Mountain and climb aboard the cable car. Although the ride may be short, the view is priceless. Once at the top make sure to soak in the 360-view of Cape Town and its surrounding landscapes. Tabletop Mountain has options for food as well as guided tours every hour on the hour. After lunch we will descend back to sea level and drive to the Castle of Good Hope. Built in the 17th century, the Castle of Good Hope is considered to be the best preserved example of a Dutch East India fort and oldest surviving building in South Africa. After our tour of the bastion fort we will take some time to explore the Bo kaap neighborhood. Considered to be one of the oldest and most spectacular neighborhoods in Cape Town, the Bo'kaap is unique in its brightly colored homes and cobble stoned streets. With the remainder of the day we will explore the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront for dinner. Tonight we will sleep in Cape Town.
DAY 4: CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA Our second full day in Cape Town will be spent on a scenic road trip down through the Cape Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope. The Cape Peninsula Loop is one of the most breathtaking drives in the world. Beginning just south of Cape Town we will drive along spectacular coastal towns and beaches. By mid morning we will have reached the most southern most part of the peninsula. While out on the cape we will have the opportunity to be whisked away by the Flying Dutchman Funicular. Taking us up Cape Point we will witness remarkable views of the ocean and the iconic lighthouse. After our ride we will explore the Cape Point Nature Reserve as well as the Cape of Good Hope. On our way back up to the city of Cape Town we will stop by Boulders Beach, located on the False Bay. This beach is home to one of the last remaining colonies of free range African penguins. Once we have received our fill of endangered wildlife and glorious beaches we will drive back north for one last night in Cape Town.
DAY 5: JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA After an early start to our day we will fly to Johannesburg, South Africa. Once we have landed we will drive our private car north for about 50 minutes to a town called Pretoria. While on a walking tour of Pretoria we will explore a wide range of museums and historic buildings. One such site, the Paul Kruger House, is a historic residence of former President to the South African Republic. Built in 1884 this now museum represents the era in which President Paul Kruger lived. Another local landmark is called the Voortrekker Monument. This statue was erected to commemorate 'The Great Trek,' an eastward journey made by Dutch-speaking pioneers (1835-1846) to expand their colony. Later in the day we will walk over to Pretoria's Union Buildings. This set of buildings are the official seat to the national government. Although we are not allowed to enter the buildings, the architecture and surrounding gardens are quite impressive. After dinner we will drive back to Johannesburg where we will sleep for the night.
DAY 6: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, SOUTH AFRICA Today will be spent in Kruger National Park. Leaving Johannesburg behind us for the time being we will be take a flight to Nelspruit, South Africa. Along our scenic route from the airport be sure to keep your eyes peeled for a sounder of warthogs or even pride of lions. We will make sure to stop along the way to get a taste of local culture and to fill our bellies. Arriving to our cozy bungalow in the late afternoon we will have the rest of the day to get settled and explore the camp. Consider yourself official on safari!
DAY 7: KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, SOUTH AFRICA For those who may be interested there will be an opportunity for a game drive to witness the early morning rituals of wildlife within the park. Later that morning we will have brunch and enjoy the afternoon at our leisure. Before dinner we will head out for another safari and continue to explore the park's flora and fauna. As one of the worlds premier game watching sites, Kruger National Park is home to 147 different mammals. Of these 147 species, the Big Five remain the most sought after while on safari. These Big Five include the African Lion, African Elephant, African Leopard, Black Rhinoceros and the Cape Buffalo. In the evening we will return to our rooms to rest before dinner. Due to the lack of both air and light pollution, Kruger National Park is a great place to stargaze. For all you city folks, watch as the night sky fills up with stars you've never seen before.
DAY 8: VICTORIA FALLS - MOSI-OA-TUNYA NATIONAL PARK, ZAMBIA Today is the day we will first get a glimpse of the mighty Victoria Falls. We will start by flying out of the Nelspruit Airport to the Victoria Falls International Airport in Zimbabwe. Once we have transferred to our hotel we will take a scenic drive to the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park in Zambia. Known by the indigenous as Mosi-oa-Tunya, or "The Smoke That Thunders," Victoria Falls lines the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Throughout the day there will be many photo opportunities of the falls as well as game viewing. Without any predators, animals like giraffes and elephants are free to roam the park. In the evening we will drive back into Victoria Falls where we will sleep for the night.
DAY 9: VICTORIA FALLS - ZIMBABWE It is clear to see why these falls are considered to be one of the seven Natural Wonders of the world. Stretching over a mile wide with nearly a 360 foot drop, the Zambezi River creates the largest sheet of falling water in the world. The main falls are the most remarkable. At its peak water flows over 5 million cubic meters per minute. Be prepared to get wet! The mist that comes off the falls in remarkable. While in this UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site we will view the statue of David Livingstone the first European to gaze upon the mighty falls. As a famous missionary, physician and a pioneer of his time he named the falls in honor of his Queen. Much like the ultimate infinity pool we will also have the opportunity to take a dip along the lip of the falls in a place called the Devil's Pool. While walking through the surrounding rainforest make sure to keep an eye out for the many birds and small mammals that live here. After a magical sunset over the falls we will make our way back to our hotel for the night.
DAY 10: CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA About an hour drive southeast of Victoria Falls will land us in Chobe National Park. As the third largest park in Botswana, Chobe has the highest concentration of wildlife in all of Africa's parks. As the most diverse park we will be on the look out for huge herds of elephant and buffalo as well as their counterpart; the lion. After an unforgettable game drive we will spend the afternoon relaxing under the African sun.
DAY 11: CHOBE NATIONAL PARK, BOTSWANA - JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA The day we will be spent on our last safari of the trip. We will continue to explore Chobe National Park in a private car. Late in the afternoon we will fly from Chobe National Park to Jonannesburg. As our adventure comes to a close we will have a farewell dinner. For those who may be interested there will be an opportunity to get one last taste of South Africa's nightlife.
