ABOUT PISTOL AUSTRALIA Inaugurated on 16 June 1956 and first known as the Amateur Pistol Shooting Union of APSUA was renamed Pistol Australia (PA) in 1991. Today PA is the premier target pistol shooting organisation in Australia with the mandate to field teams to the Commonwealth Games, Olympic Games and other international target pistol shooting competitions such as the Oceania Shooting Federation Championships (OSF), Bianchi Cup and International Metallic Silhouette Shooting Union (IMSSU) World Cup. PA currently has approximately 15,000 members in its State and Territory Associations, is a non-profit organisation and does not receive funding from the Federal Government. PA is responsible for conducting national championships in all ISSF, Action Pistol, Metallic Silhouette and WA1500 match events. Its members are represented through Shooting Australia to the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF), the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC), the Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) and the Australian Sports Commission (ASC). 4 2019 WA1500 (PPC) World Championships Proposal Pistol Australia
PISTOL AUSTRALIA AND WA1500 ASSOCIATION Pistol Australia joined the WA1500 World Association in June 2005 as a full national member. The WA1500 World Association granted PA exclusive rights to conduct national championships in WA1500 Match in Australia and to field the Australian Team to international WA1500 competitions. WA1500 Match provides a pathway for international competition for our many PA Service Pistol Shooters. Since becoming a member of WA1500, PA members have enthusiastically embraced the WA1500 Match. PA conducted WA1500 National Competitions in 2004 and 2005 and the first WA1500 Match National Championship in April 2006. Since then, WA1500 Match has become a permanent fixture on the PA shooting calendar. In 2007, PA entered its first team to compete in the WA1500 Match World Championships in Phillipsburg, Germany. Since then, a PA Team has competed in every World and European Championships to date achieving much success. PA Shooters and Teams have regularly secured top three finishes at WA1500 Match Competitions with several shooters currently occupying top 10 positions on the WA1500 World Rankings. 2019 WA1500 (PPC) World Championships Proposal Pistol Australia 5
VENUES VENUE 1 Pistol Australia proposes to host the event at one of two possible locations. Both locations are located in major cities on the East coast of Australia and are within close proximity to International Airports, accommodation and entertainment areas. If successful, PA will decide on a location in October 2017 and advise WA1500 Association immediately. MELBOURNE SYDNEY MELBOURNE Located 62km (approx. 90-minute drive) from the Melbourne International Airport, The Yarra Pistol Club (YPC) is in the outer Melbourne suburb of Lysterfield, approximately 40km South-East of the Melbourne CBD. It is situated at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, on 10 acres, surrounding the Lysterfield Lake, which is utilised by bush walkers, trail bike riders. The club has an Active membership of around 150, experienced WA1500 shooters, and, qualified RO s. In addition, the YPC is very experienced in hosting events and will be hosting the 2018 PA Action Pistol National Championships and the 2019 PA/ISSF National Championships. With current construction of a new shed on two ranges, the club could put 34 Airport WA1500 Revolver and 34 WA1500 Pistol competitors on the shooting line at once, utilising all appropriate ranges. The club s range facilities include: Capacity approximately 250 300 competitors in each of 150, 60 & 48 shot matches over 4 days; 4 x 50m ranges; 4 x 25m ranges; Adequate parking; Fully operational kitchen; BBQ facilities; Scoring areas; Marquee covered areas; Computer equipped score room; Deep sheds with large spectator areas; On site strong room facility; and; Scenic Dandenong ranges, Healesville Sanctuary, Mornington Peninsula and other attractions within 2 hours of the range. January is the hottest month in Melbourne with an average temperature of 21 C (70 F) and the coldest is July at 10 C (50 F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 11 in January. VENUE 2 SYDNEY Currently under construction is the $13million Southern Highlands Regional Shooting Complex (SHRSC) at Hill Top in the Southern Highlands of NSW. Located 101km (approx. 122-minute drive) from the Sydney International Airport and 114km from the Sydney CBD. Set within the Bargo National Park, surrounded by the Australian bush and just 10 minutes North-West of the Southern Highlands you are certain to see a kangaroo, wombat or maybe even a koala. The complex is being built by the New South Wales State Government and will initially cater to eight clubs upon completion. The complex will be managed under the Sydney International Shooting Centre (SISC) who are very familiar with hosting Paralympic, Olympic, ISSF, Youth Olympic Oceania, World Masters and IPC events. Regularly ranking among the worldwide Top Ten Most Liveable Cities, Sydney and its surrounds contain around 20% of the entire population of Australia at about 4.6 million people. Sydney is an extremely diverse city and is home to many ethnic and cultural groups, the largest of which include British, Chinese, New Zealanders, Vietnamese, Lebanese, Filipino, and, Italians. In summer (December - February), average maximum temperatures are around 26 C (79 F). It can also be humid at this time with an average humidity of 65 per cent. Average maximum temperatures in the winter months (June-August) are around 16 C (61 F). Sydney s rainfall is highest between March and June. MATCHES Due to firearms legislation in Australia there are some minor restrictions on the calibre, barrel length and magazine capacity of handguns that are permitted for use in competitions in Australia.
