Total Cargo Up 4.2% MARCH 2014 SUMMARY Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) served 278,172 passengers in March 2014, a decrease of (9.1%) versus March 2013. The loss in traffic can be attributed to a lack of consistent snowfall this winter season, resulting in softened snowsports traffic. In addition, the combined men s and women s bowling tournament, which is a smaller group this year, did not start until late March. Southwest Airlines saw the largest decrease in total passengers, carrying 28,103 fewer passengers in March 2014 compared to the same month last year, representing a decrease of (32.6%). The loss of Oakland, Salt Lake City and seasonal service from Ontario, coupled with Portland and Chicago-Midway service reductions, decreased the scheduled monthly totals by 116 departures with 11,705 departing seats. Overall, Southwest s scheduled departures were down (15.6) in March 2014 versus March 2013. Alaska Airlines and US Airways both saw year-over-year March increases in the amount of 3,551 combined total passengers. With respect to air cargo, RNO handled 9,758,391 pounds of cargo in March 2014, an increase of 3.2% over March 2013. Overall cargo performance continues to improve, showing strong cargo demands for Reno-Tahoe International Airport. FedEx experienced a rise in volumes of 8.4% year over year, while Ameriflight (DHL) posted a slight decrease of (4.1%) and UPS posted an decrease of (5.2)%. In March, 2014, RNO was served by seven major airlines providing 53 peak daily departures to 14 non-stop destinations. For March, our partner airlines reported a (16.0%) decrease in scheduled passenger seats compared to March 2013.

Year-over-year passenger traffic on Alaska Airlines increased by 17.2% due to a new non-stop flight to Portland, OR which began in November 2013. With respect to March load factors, Alaska Airlines, American and United reported year-over-year increases. American Airlines reported a 94.5% average load factor and United Airlines reported 96.5% load factor. Alaska Airlines load factor for the month was flat, (0.1pts), at 86.6% on increased capacity of 20.0%. US Airways reported an average monthly load factor of 85.1% while Allegiant posted 89.8%. Southwest Airlines traffic decreased with 75.7% load factor and the reductions of one Portland and one Los Angeles frequency compared to last year. TOTAL CARGO Total cargo volume at RNO increased 3.2% in March 2014 versus the same period last year. FedEx was the driver with a increase of 8.4% year-over-year. UPS has a slight decrease of (5.2%). Ameriflight (DHL) was down just slightly at (4.1%) over the same period. The monthly volume still represents the second highest March on record since 2008.

Many airlines showed improved year-over-year average load factor. American Airlines reported RNO load factor was 12.7% higher than their Network average and United Airlines reported RNO as 13.7 higher than the Network average. 0%
Air Carrier Market Share AIRLINE MARKET SHARE Alaska/Horizon, 7.7% US Airways, 9.9% American, 12.1% Delta, 8.0% Allegiant Air, 1.0% Others, 0.0% United, 13.4% Southwest, 47.9% In March 2014, Southwest Airlines carried a total of 133,382 passengers resulting in a market share of 47.9%. The next highest market shares were: United Airlines with 13.4%, American Airlines with 12.1%, US Airways with 9.9%, Delta Air Lines at 8.0%, Alaska Airlines carried 7.7%, and Allegiant Air rounded out the carriers with 1.0% of the total passengers at Reno-Tahoe International Airport. In addition, Alaska Airlines started service to Portland, OR on November 8th of last year. This non-stop service will increase to twice daily on June 8th. Southwest Airlines Transitioned Chicago-Midway service to seasonal, which returned to daily service March 8th, 2014. Reduced non-stop service to Portland from two to one daily in November 2013. Will eliminate non-stop service to Seattle and Portland in June 2014. United Airlines Had Saturday winter seasonal service to Houston during the month of March. Daily Houston service will be reinstated beginning June 5. TOTAL OPERATIONS A total of 5,875 operations occurred at RNO in March 2014, leading to a decrease of (8.5%) versus March 2013.
