An established mining industry executive and leader in strategy, technology, mining and geoscience. A 35 year veteran of BHP Billiton having held a number of senior roles including Group Head of Resources and Business Optimisation, Vice President Mineral Resource Development and Vice President Mine Optimisation, until retirement in June 2015. Final role with BHP was to lead the development and successful implementation of BHP s Group Technology Strategy, a global approach to technology development and implementation across all functions and businesses. Formerly a member of the Joint Ore Reserves Committee, and a Director of AMIRA international Pty Ltd., and is currently an independent Director of CRC Ore Ltd, and a Director of the AusIMM. He continues to be active as a strategic advisor to mining companies, suppliers and government institutions through his consulting business. A graduate from University of Adelaide with a BSc(Hons) in Geology and Economic Geology, and holds a Graduate Diploma in Business from Curtin University in Western Australia. BHP Billiton VP Mine Optimization, single handedly led the development of the Technology Strategy for BHP Billiton Group, from a blank sheet to endorsement at EXCO and approval by the Board. Designed then executed the successful program to implement the Group Technology Strategy globally across all BHP Billiton Functions and Businesses. BHP Billiton Group Head Resource and Business Optimization (Senior VP), led a dynamic and high profile team of discipline leaders for production, maintenance, geoscience, engineering, technology and research, A direct report to EXCO and influence at Board level. BHP Billiton VP Mineral Resource Development, leadership of a highly skilled and proactive group of technical and functional specialists with Group wide accountability for geology, mine engineering and metallurgy 35 years in mining involving operational roles including GM and Asset Exco roles, major/mega projects, IT management, technical consulting, improvement, M&A and corporate governance. The last 15 years of which involved the technical review and the leadership of review teams covering some of the largest and most complex resource industry major and mega capital projects prior to Board sanction.

Key Achievements Strategy: Successful delivery of the BHP Billiton Technology strategy, singularly accountable for the development of the strategy, gaining endorsement at EXCO and approval by Board then successfully led and completed the implementation of the strategy. This included engaging and influencing leadership and a diverse range of stakeholders internally and externally to shape the industry technology landscape. Delivered BHP Billiton s strategic response to China s growth with (un-constrained) basin strategy. Technical: Geoscientist with strong background in mine geology, geometallurgy, geostatistics, orebody modeling and mine planning, culminating in the role of Global Practice Leader for Mine Planning (including geoscience), for BHP Billiton 2006 to 2010. Governance: Created the BHP Billiton Ore Reserve Reporting policy and governance function from scratch, including Board RAC reporting external JORC committee membership and engagement with the US SEC. Successful delivery of this has ensured that BHP Billtion has not had any major write-downs since its implementation. M&A: Technical leader in the successful merger of Billiton with BHP, >$20bn transaction. Led the technical due diligence and integration for WMC take over and technical advisor for the South32 de-merger. Projects: Led the early resource evaluation for the Cannington Project that ultimately proved to be accurate and robust. Leadership role in the best in class design, approval, build, commissioning, organizational development and early operations of the Cannington Mine which ultimately exceeded design performance and delivered an extremely successful business outcome. Leader of a large number of Independent Peer Reviews for mega projects exceeding $5bn in Capex (eg. Iron Ore Expansions, Olympic Dam and Jansen Potash). Business Re-engineering: Responsible for design and governance of production and Maintenance functions in BHP s SAP implementation. Designed, implemented and governed the BHP Billiton planning process, with direct accountability for directional planning. Restructured the BHP Billiton Global technology function, involving redeployment of >100 people and $100M annual spend. Improvement: Led the Global Mine Planning functional network, responsible for best practice and improvement in resource evaluation and mine planning. Implemented the Strategy, including changes to group level accountabilities, development of internal processes and structures, and shifting the external supplier landscape. Accountable for the Next Generation Mining program including equipment autonomy, remote operating centers, mass mining, a refresh of operation and production IT systems and geoscience data acquisition approaches. With the change of CEO this progressed to being singularly responsible for the development of a completely new group-wide technology strategy. This strategy used Value driven analysis to defined what technologies BHP Billiton would focus on, how they would access and approach these technologies, who they would partner with and how to organize in a manner that would efficiently develop and implement the required technologies. Successfully delivered the first comprehensive Group wide Technology Strategy for BHP Billiton on time and on budget including obtaining Executive Committee approval and Board Endorsement. Successfully implemented the technology strategy with key workstreams covering focus area roadmap development, governance, IP, scanning and partners. Recruited the new technology team (including VP Technology) and handed over these work-streams to business as usual. Introduction of truck autonomy, including first pilot of CAT s autonomy solutions at a mine site and then established and hand over to a business the operational trial. Established a multi-vendor approach for trucks and drills and encouraged a vendor independent solution to be developed. This will deliver a >$1bn reduction in operating costs. Championed a Remote Operations Systems approach that was successfully deployed in Iron Ore and is being developed for Coal. This fundamentally changed the operational approach and crucial in lowering operating costs by >30% Led the total refresh of operating systems, including Fleet Management, Production and Inventory Accounting and the integration with SAP. Resulting in higher (best in class) equipment utilization. Personally led the development of a real time down the hole chemical analysis tool for exploration and grade control drill holes resulting in higher accuracy and dramatically reduced turnaround times for assays. Led the development of the BHP Billiton Ore Reserve Policy and Mineral Resource and Reserve reporting process. - 3 -

Responsible for the Group Process and Master Data for both Work Management (maintenance) and Production functions. Provide corporate governance and key technical advice and strategy to Senior Executive and Board on global Mineral Resource development issues. Trusted advisor to senior leadership both in Group and within the Businesses. No major Ore Reserve write-downs during time responsible for governance No major technical issues with capital projects Delivered strategy for growth the unconstrained view which led to basin thinking which has now driven the simplification to 4 major businesses. This enabled BHP Billiton to respond to China s growth in demand with unprecedented expansion of the business. Eg Iron Ore production from 100mtpa to >300mtpa Leadership in the company response to commodity downturn with capital prioritization working with assets to present capital options for consideration, resulting in shelving Olympic Dam expansion. Stewardship of the successful design and implementation of the single BHP Billiton process for Production and Maintenance with SAP. BHP BILLITON VICE PRESIDENT MINERAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT OCT 10 NOV 11 Responsibilities Major business achievements Lead the Mineral Resource Development (MRD) Team comprising the BHPB Group wide corporate technical capability covering resource governance, resource evaluation, brownfield exploration, mining engineering, mine planning and optimisation, process design and engineering and business planning and valuation specialists. Restructured the Group Technology function resulting in a more productive (headcount/cost) global service. Performed role of Group process and data owner for Production function in SAP design BHP BILLITON Background Major achievements GLOBAL MANAGER MINERAL RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT APR 06 OCT10 Coordinate the Resource and Reserve reporting for BHPBilliton. Led the design, development and roll out of Group wide business planning processes, specifically responsible for long term directional planning a process now adopted by competitors Led and participated in the Independent Peer Review major capital projects resulting in best practice sharing and the development of key organizational capabilities Led and participated in the independent review of a successful major M&A and due diligence activities including WMC. Led the formal mine planning functional network across BHP Billiton, and facilitate the development and application of best practice in resource evaluation and mine planning. Part of integration team to merge BHP and Billiton. Provide an internal tollgate technical review of all major capital projects and mergers and acquisitions prior to approval by BHP management. Led Resource team on major Due Diligence Investigation in Brazil, and provided independent review of 2 other DDI s in Brazil. MANAGER INFORMATION SYSTEMS (1996 1998) Delivered all aspects of information and communication systems for the Cannington Project during the construction, commissioning and early operational phases. PROJECT DEVELOPMENT (1991 1996) Contributed to, or managed, several feasibility and due diligence studies in Australia and overseas including, the major one being the Cannington Project. RESOURCE EVALUATION CONSULTANT (1987 1991) Led the Geological function for BHP Resources an internal technical consulting group within BHP Minerals (Later transferred to BHP Engineering). Carried out central geological modelling and evaluation, mine planning and study management for a number of operations, studies and transactions including the spin out of BHP Gold and acquisition of Goldsworthy.
