Implemented the Strategy, including changes to group level accountabilities, development of internal processes and structures, and shifting the external supplier landscape. Accountable for the Next Generation Mining program including equipment autonomy, remote operating centers, mass mining, a refresh of operation and production IT systems and geoscience data acquisition approaches. With the change of CEO this progressed to being singularly responsible for the development of a completely new group-wide technology strategy. This strategy used Value driven analysis to defined what technologies BHP Billiton would focus on, how they would access and approach these technologies, who they would partner with and how to organize in a manner that would efficiently develop and implement the required technologies. Established a multi-vendor approach for trucks and drills and encouraged a vendor independent solution to be developed. This will deliver a >$1bn reduction in operating costs. Championed a Remote Operations Systems approach that was successfully deployed in Iron Ore and is being developed for Coal. This fundamentally changed the operational approach and crucial in lowering operating costs by >30% Led the total refresh of operating systems, including Fleet Management, Production and Inventory Accounting and the integration with SAP.
