A Message From Our President I want to extend thanks and congratulations to Jodi Leal for stepping up to run for president and being elected. I believe she will do a fantastic job and make all of the people that voted for her proud that they did so. Her first big job will be to fill out the rest of the board with appointed positions such as CMSC Rep/International Rep, Happening Editors, Website, and Publicity Chair. With over 275 members we should be able to fill these open positions with great ease. Do your part and help YOUR club and YOUR NEW President Jodi to be the best club in Metro and all of the fri ing skiing world! With the start of May we should be ready for Thursday golf nights and Monday and Wednesday bike nights. Just flip the page and go hunting for your next adventure. While in April we kept the events quiet, May arrives and we start up with the Whirly Ball Jiffi on May 13 th. You may have to beg Pat M to let you sign up to have a great night of Near West Theater on May 14th; exactly $8.00 will get you a ticket and a fun evening. Speaking of Pat M, she and her husband (the great Dupa) are hosting the 4 th Annual Bike Scavenger Hunt. Only $20 will get you a fun time and a chance to check parts of the East Side, Shaker Square and other various attractions and who knows what else. Sign up and find out. As we turn to June-June 17 that is, do not ask me how, but the Anniversary Party is only $38, No, strike that, IT IS ONLY $27 if you are in the first 75 to sign up. Do you also know by signing up you have a chance to win a 47" flat screen TV? How they were able to reduce the price by $11 I have no idea but dinner and drinks for only $27 no-way I am missing that! Check out the inside for more details. A club public service announcement: Listed below are many of the summer ideas, most are JIFFI s. We are looking for a contact person for the JIFFI s, which means all you need to do is answer your phone and provide information as to when and where the event is happening. 1. Hessler Street Fair May 21-22 nd (it s the way a street fair should be run) 2. Art walks Little Italy, Sparks and Tremont (checking out the art scene) 3. Night at Blossom (we re talking the Cleveland Orchestra, how could you not) 4. Cleveland baseball games (happy hour, baseball, fireworks & maybe another beer stop) 5. Night at a winery or a Saturday afternoon wine picnic/bike ride( nuff said) 6. Irish Festival on July 22-24, 2011 (good beer & great music) 7. Burning River Fest July 23-24, 2011(beers by Great Lakes, what else do you need?) 8. Did We Have Fun In Aspen? YOU BET!!! BASH for Fagowees means a joint trip with our sister Club and this has not happened for about eight years when DC and Cleveland went to Steamboat. Well it s about Dam time, you think? In all, with a few tag alongs, we had 95 for this trip. What a motley crew it was. Frank H took his large Blue Bus and took about a twenty Fagowees luggage along with Mike K. as navigator for a change, instead of the driver. Ivette and I were in charge of the Friday group and Mike and Gina had the Saturday group. Traveling on Friday went pretty smooth and we wish it was the same for the Saturday group. Of course Dave P. was tripped up in baggage claim and we have our first injury. In addition to United adding a third leg on the trip weeks before the trip, making for a very long day, one of the legs got cancelled causing about an additional 13 hour delay. Upon learning that the flight was cancelled out of Chicago the tour operator could not be contacted so Gina took the bull by the horns and got the new flight set up. An eight hour wait for the flight in Chicago and a three hour wait in Denver was the best the group could get. Not a fun travel day. But Fagowees have been here before, and will probably be in the future. Greg B, tired as hell, but skiing the next day (despite a horrible travel day) takes a header in the bathtub, and we have our second injury. Sunday was the WELCOME PARTY and one hour prior, I learned that we had a miscommunication on the time frame. We thought we had two hours of free drinks and food, but soon learned that it was only one hour. We tried to call all rooms to advise people of the glitch and the second hour had to be a cash bar. While trying to handle this we learned that my mother-in-law smashed up our car and the Police needed to speak with me. No one hurt, thank goodness, but what a way to get the vacation started. Janice and Mat with two of Mats children joined the trip and they decided that a wedding was in order upon their arrival. What better place and time-fagowees BASH in Aspen? Dennis G. stood in the witness and a new family has begun. Monday skiing at Snowmass produced a very windy morning but our lunch at the Spider Sabitch Lodge on mid-mountain went on without a hitch. Our three non-skiers, Ivette, Pat M. and Tim G. from DC got their own special chairlift ride so that they could join the group. Chili and wraps hit the spot and for desert the newlyweds provided us with their wedding cake for all. We wish Mat and Janice Rogers the best and were all happy that the Fagowees had the opportunity to have a small part in this union. Conditions were typical spring skiing to this point. No one is complaining with over six thousand acres to choose from. Donna B. joined up with the newlyweds for group lessons and some private ones courtesy of Janice. What a place to start for the Rogers kids. Tuesday night was our first night at the Elks for appetizers and cheap booze. This has to be the nicest Elks Lodge in Colorado and the local members were more than gracious. To show our appreciation we made an effort to raise some funds for one of their local causes that they support The Shining Stars organization; Bringing hope to Children with Cancer and other life threatening diseases. The Lodge hosted this group the week we were there as well as an annual visit by lots of disabled veterans. If you have not figured this out yet, the Elks Club is a great organization which supports many organizations. They also help out thirsty Ski Clubs who have Elks members. Highlights from the Highland Bowl by Tom K. Day 3 on the mountain for some of us... So we decided it would be a smart idea to hike the Highland Bowl... So on Monday, with only 2 full days of being at altitude a band of nut bags decides to climb Highland Bowl for a little skiing adventure. So happens that Tony C. decided to challenge Rita M. to a BALONY sandwich if she could stick with the boys until Lunch time, which means climbing the Bowl with us and skiing down with us.. We decide 11am is a good time to go hike up, ski down then time for LUNCH!! So who do you say are the nut bags who weren t that BRIGHT to climb to the top? Well, The 3 Amigos are game on (Tom K., Dave H. & Larry F.). We added a few others Patrick, Jill N., Tony C., Eric R. & Rita M. So we catch the Cat to take us a little bit of the way there and then start our hike up... We were all a little nervous with high winds today... Tom K. was first on the hike up following a ski patroller the entire way up... Tom said later, he almost blew CHUNKS trying to stick on the patrollers heals, but he wasn t giving up... Though Patrick decided to BLOW... He got BLOWN off the trail and almost went down the hill on his back... and Dave H. was close to going with Patrick... We get to the top and WHERE IS RITA? Well, she decided to go down right from where the Cat left us off...

AAAAAH, Tony, we are all pretty sure she owes you a BALONY sandwich... Everyone agrees, EXCEPT RITA!! To this day she is still saying she was there... We had a patroller take a picture of the entire crew who went to the top... We all didn t see Rita in the picture and it wasn t noon yet... HMMM, I still think Tony is awaiting his sandwich... Extra thick cut of Baloney too!! RIGHT TONY? Rules for your trip to Big Sky. Worked well at Aspen. I hear Tom K. has a dozen sign ups by April 1. 1. Wake up and eat breakfast 2. SKI HARD ALL DAY, drink on the lift to hydrate... meaning, either bring a flask or have a ski buddy with one... 3. After skiing, go to bar and have a beer or two... THEN... 4. HOT TUB 5. Go back and take a POWER NAP!! 2 hours minimum... 6. Wake up around 8-8:30pm... SHOWER!!.. 7. GO EAT DINNER... 8. THEN HIT THE PARTAAAY!! 9. Around 1am find a cute boy/girl to sleep with 10. Go to bed... 11. use your imagination and repeat 10 & 11 until you are useless 12. REPEAT. I forget what day it was, but we had POWDER!!!!! Still can t figure it out yet, but one of these days I will. Elks again on Thursday night and more raffle tickets being sold for the kids. Some winners of the 50/50 donated their winnings, or most of it. A special thanks to the two Anns and Greg H. for their generosity. In all the Fagowees raised almost $700.00 for the Shining Stars. It is nice to know that we have such a generous bunch that actually cares about something other than skiing and drinking. Did I really say that!!!!!!! Thanks again. We had several others who contributed to the trip in so many ways. Brian W., Rita, and Janice for valuable info, Frank H. for hauling our trip stuff and Dian W., Joe B. and Allison for their generous donations for the gift bags. Joe B. has been so generous many times over on so many trips. Thanks to Marilyn for handling the awards for the burnt out trip leaders. Thanks also to Tim Gordon who got the DC group together. Lisa and Mark for the many drinks they made for us at the condo party night. We really need to learn the Fagowees song for future events. The DC gang can really show their enthusiasm for this great Club. We just wish Dutch would have been there too. Even though she did not attend, special thanks go to Annie E. who said we needed to stay in Downtown Aspen, and not in Snowmass. I guess having 95 on the trip answered that question loud and clear. The Gant is an awesome place to stay and its location was excellent. I did not hear any complaints about the accommodations. To those of you who missed the trip, it was a good one. Don t miss Big Sky next year. I had to turn away about eight people who wanted to go. They waited too long and he condos were gone.
