JULY Tuesday 5 Yarra River Walk - Ideal for new participants Come out with us, meet new people, have lunch and enjoy a refreshing walk along one of the city s great waterways. Monday 16 Friday 20 Winter Retreat Come to Bright and explore the wonders of snow capped mountains, rivers and quaint towns. There will be an opportunity for snow play and walks along the Ovens River. Tuesday 17 Wednesday 18 Winter Overnight Program - Ideal for new participants to Come along for a few spectacular walks as we explore what is on offer out in our scenic Victorian Ranges.
AUGUST Monday 6 Friday 10 Wellbeing Mornington Peninsula Holiday Yoga, mindfulness practices, relaxing walks, interesting places, beautiful nature. A treasure packed region with many attractions to enjoy. Wednesday 8 Paddle the Yarra A whitewater day trip down the Yarra River to score some exciting rapids for a few woo-hoo moments. Being winter the river levels and flow should be good. Monday 13 Thursday 16 Rafting/Sports Rafting Bright is the Victorian hub for outdoor adventure. Keeping true to this, we re going white water rafting! Whilst we ll be on the water each day, we ll be staying in warm cabin accommodation right in the heart of Bright. It s an exciting trip for those up for it. Monday 27 Friday 31 Alpine Adventure Mt. Beauty Experience the beauty of the Alpine environment in winter. Including activities such as snow shoeing and bushwalking. Tuesday 28 Hanging Rock - Ideal for new participants A moderately easy bushwalk followed by a barbeque lunch.
SEPTEMBER Tuesday 4 - Wednesday 5 Eldon Park Retreat - Ideal for new participants Experience some of the many attractions of the beautiful Mornington Peninsula on this easy going one night stay in Tyabb. Monday 10 Friday 14 Rafting Come and raft the white water rivers in East Gippsland. We will raft the Mitta or Mitchell River depending on the river levels and interest. It will be an exhilarating and adventurous experience as you learn to read water, work as a team and camp beside the pristine river. Thursday 13 Cranbourne Botanic Gardens - Ideal for new participants Enjoy a stroll through these native gardens which are home to a thriving local bird and animal community, including several rare and endangered species.
OCTOBER Monday 1 5 Friday Out Doors Inc. Healthy by Nature Wellbeing Convention The convention is a gathering of 40 participants plus staff and guests to explore wellbeing through inspiring guest speakers, interactive 'hands-on' practical workshops, and outdoor activities such as bushwalking, canoeing, and mountain biking. An excellent opportunity to focus on your own wellbeing. The convention will provide a variety of activities to inspire, educate, and invigorate you and promote positive wellbeing. to Monday 15 Day in the Dandenongs A leisurely day exploring the Dandenongs, walking through majestic forests and strolling through picturesque towns. Tuesday 16 Wednesday 17 Overnight Coastal Camp - Ideal for new participants Come and try camping. Enjoy walks on the beach, exploration and a campfire at night. Monday 22 Friday 26 Camp Forrest Come and immerse yourself in beautiful Forrest and develop your bike riding skills while exploring some of the very best mountain bike trails Victoria has to offer. The trip promises to offer a balance between skill development, challenge and relaxation. Tuesday 30 Come and Try Caving A real caving adventure. Come along and get dirty at the Labertouche caves. Moderate to good fitness required.
NOVEMBER Monday 29 October Friday 2 Mt Beauty Art Holiday Come and have fun exploring the artist within you while trying out some interesting creative activities. We ll be staying at Arby s place, in a great spot situated below Falls Creek in the Kiewa Valley. Each day we ll also be exploring some of the highlights of the region. Wednesday 7 Friday 9 Women s Retreat A chance to encourage one another in the magical outdoors. We will plan this journey together to suit the interests of the group, whether it be a raft journey, walk, canoe, base camp, surf, yoga retreat or anything else. It is an opportunity to try something new and challenging in a safe and supportive environment with other women. Wednesday 14 Collingwood Children s Farm - Ideal for new participants Come and meet some farm animals and explore the beautiful surroundings of this popular inner-city farm. Part of the larger Abbotsford Convent and nestled on the Yarra River, we ll spend some time walking around and exploring this interesting area. Monday 19 Friday 23 Pine Mountain Experience Week long get away of amazing day hikes, a perfect opportunity for you to escape and be surrounded by spectacular bushland and diverse wildlife in the isolation on Pine Mountain.
DECEMBER Monday 3 - Friday 7 Canoeing in the Barmah Forest Come and enjoy exploring the forests and canoeing the waterways of Barmah National Park. The Barmah forest is known as being the biggest red gum forest in the world. It was also known in bygone days as being Victoria s biggest inland port. Monday 10 - Friday 14 Relaxo Coastal Camp Coastal camp designed to wind down and relax after a big 2018. Activities will be beach centred such as surfing, snorkelling, hiking and relaxing. Tuesday 11 Riverside Walk Ideal for new participants A relaxing exploration by foot of local Melbourne waterways. Wednesday 12 Come and Try Climbing/Abseiling Interested in trying something new? Overcoming your fear of heights? Achieving something that might look impossible at first? Then come and enjoy climbing in a safe, supportive and encouraging environment
EQUIPMENT Out Doors Inc. provides all the equipment for the activities we run. This includes good quality waterproof jackets and over pants so we can still have fun in the rain. Generally on day programs, all you need to bring are some comfortable clothes to suit the weather, a hat and a drink bottle. However, it is always a good idea to check each trip invitation you receive to make sure there is no additional items you need to bring. NB: Please note that this calendar is correct at time of printing but is subject to change. TYPES OF PROGRAM Ideal for New Participants Days These programs are the first step for new participants and are designed to provide an insight into the types of activities that are available. This is also an opportunity for new participants to get to know staff and other participants. Come & Try Come & Try are a great opportunity to give new activities a go. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to go rock climbing or canoeing then Come & Try are the times to let your curiosity get the better of you. Overnight Programs Overnight programs are a great way to get away from the city for a few days, to have a more in - depth go at some of the activities that we run and enjoy the peace of the bush. Sequential Programs Sequential Programs offer you an opportunity to develop your skills in a particular activity over a number of weeks and may include overnight camps. PROGRAM COSTS Program costs are determined by which funding stream you are eligible for. Please get in touch with Out Doors for more information. AGENCY SERVICES We are able to offer additional tailored programs to agencies utilising our unique skills and approach. HOW TO BECOME INVOLVED To get involved participants need to have a diagnosed psychiatric disability and be aged 16 and over and living in the North or East metropolitan of Melbourne. First step in registering with Out Doors People who wish to refer someone or themselves to Out Doors must first fill out a Referral Form which can be downloaded from the website or by contacting our office. The completed form can be returned to us either in person, via email, post or fax. Contact details can be found on the back of this booklet. Invitation to Participant Information Session Once the completed referral form is received, your details will be placed on a waiting list. When your name comes to the top of the list, Out Doors will invite you (and if relevant, your support person) to attend a short information session held at our office. ABOUT OUT DOORS INC. Out Doors Inc. started in 1987. We provide planned respite and specialist outdoor activity programs. We promote adventure in nature as a great approach to better health. Through our programs, participants find opportunities to get away from the day-to-day and out into the bush with friendly groups.
