A myriad of photo opportunities present themselves on the way to this impressive three storey high granite boulder standing sentinel on the magnificent coastline. Our walk continues to Marshall Bay following the stunning coastline north towards Tanners Bay. Hopping in the bus we drive a short distance to begin the moderately challenging climb up one of the island s more prominent peaks, Mt Killiecrankie. adventure travel By its very nature adventure travel involves an element of the unexpected. In remote and developing countries do not expect standards you are used to at home. Remote areas are sometimes unpredictable and itineraries may be altered. To get the most out of your adventure it is important that you are flexible, positive and eager to take on all the challenges that arise. If you are uncertain about your suitability for this trip we recommend that you speak with your consultant or travel agent. important note These trip notes represent the most current information for this itinerary, and may supersede any information in the current brochure, including but not limited to the itinerary and price. The itinerary should be seen as a guide only. This itinerary may change at any time due to inclement weather, forces of nature and other circumstances beyond our control. for lunch we can enjoy a well deserved swim in the crystal clear waters or just enjoy the serenity before walking along the crescent shaped white sandy beach of Killiecrankie Bay and arriving at its namesake hamlet. If time permits we will be transferred a short distance to West End Homestead in Leeka. Leaving our vehicle behind at the Homestead we begin making our way along the inland track to the coast. After a couple of kms we will pop out onto the coast just north of Cape Frankland. Following the coastline south we will be rewarded with some of the most beautiful scenery on Flinders Island. We will be tested with sections of scrambling through rocky capes and then relax and enjoy some beach walking before making our way back to the vehicle. This section of Flinders Island has been described as a photographer s dream. Walking distance: up to 20km Driving time: 45 minutes each way DAY 4 North East River and Palana On the third morning of our adventure we head off to the northernmost point of the island to the wonderfully remote North East River. This is Flinders Island at its best; remote, pristine and at the full mercy of the elements. The day s walk will see us exploring the coastline and the impressive Palana sand dunes whilst being mesmerised by the exhilarating views out to the Sister Islands. Rock pools and knobbly granite outcrops are a treat to behold and our group can spread out to enjoy the peacefulness that can only be found being at one with nature. Once reaching the tiny settlement of Palana, we can opt for a swim before jumping aboard our support vehicle to return to our secluded accommodation for the evening. Walking distance: 8-9km Driving time: 1 hour each way DAY 5 Haulands Gap & Mt Leventhorpe Today we turn our attention inland to discover another aspect of the island. We drive up to Walkers Lookout which provides amazing views of the Darling Range before departing on the Haulands Gap Track. This track through peppermint scented eucalyptus forests provides great views of both the east and west coastlines. Along the way to Haulands Gap we have the option to climb Mt Leventhorpe, the tallest mountain in the darling range at 501m. The trail to the summit is a 5km off track walk. The summit provides impressive views of the east and west coasts of the island, and gives us a glimpse of what the views from Mt Strezleki will be like. In the evening we journey down to Lady Barron to enjoy an island style meal with the locals at the Furneax Tavern. As well as sampling some of the island s hospitality and a cold Tasmanian beer, this also provides a wonderful chance to meet some of Flinders friendly and colourful characters. Walking distance: 13km 4 2018 World Expeditions Travel Group - Bec Leorke 6/8/2018 12:52:07 PM

DAY 6 Mt Strzelecki & Trouser Point walk Today we rise in the very eary hours of the morning. Our goal is to reach the summit of Mt Strezleki for sunrise - once on the summit you can relax and watch the world wake up from the highest point on the island. The track to the summit of Mt Strzelecki is a challenging 700m climb through stands of blue gums and peppermints and endemic unique alpine vegetation before entering an enchanting, evergreen cloud forest. On a clear day, the decent will reveal amazing views of Flinders Island, the outer islands as well as the northern coastline of mainland Tasmania. After making our way down the mountain, we head back to our accommodation for a well deserved breakfast before transferring out to Big River Road where we will start our walk to Holts Point and then join onto Trousers Point, one of Tasmania s Great Short Walks. This walk affords wonderful views from Trousers Point beach up to Mt Strzelecki and the chance to wade through the tranquil waters before returning to our accommodation to celebrate our final night on this magnificent island. Walking distance: 10km DAY 7 Return flight to Launceston, trip concludes This morning you have a couple of hours free time before packing up and heading off to catch our scenic return flight to Bridport. You may wish to catch a connecting flight back home or spend another night exploring Launceston. meals: B This itinerary is subject to change with any change in Community regulations as well as Governmental changes and natural circumstances beyond our control. climate Tasmania is located between Latitudes 40 and 43, with the island s temperature and weather moderated by the surrounding oceans. The cool temperate climate offers four distinct seasons which can interchange on any given day of the year. Summer temperatures on Flinders Island are absolutely ideal for walking, with an average maximum of 21 degrees and minimum of 12 degrees. Wind factor, especially on the west facing coastline, can drop the air temperature further. Rainfall on the west coast of Flinders is relatively low compared to the west coast of mainland Tasmania and averages 744mm, but please be prepared for unseasonal heavy rain at any time of year. For group safety and comfort, having adequate gear and equipment for the local conditions ensures accessibility to the wilderness is enjoyed. a typical day Each day, each group, each guide may influence itinerary details but the following will give you an idea of daily timing. Physical and mental preparation for your trek cannot be highlighted enough. Come open minded and ready for a wonderful experience whatever the weather, whoever the group, whatever your preconceived ideas. Your guides will be working to enhance your trek and maximise your safety. Every day is different but the day normally starts with breakfast at your accommodation. Usually the morning walk is 3 4 hours in duration with numerous snack, photo and water breaks along the way. A leisurely lunch is served which provides the chance to put your feet up, take photos, or simply enjoy the magnificent scenery around you. The afternoon walk is usually shorter than the morning walk getting us our accommodation with time for exploring, relaxing or just enjoying a welcome hot drink and a chat. A hot dinner is served with time to tell a few stories and hear a brief on the following day s activities before heading off for the nights rest. 5 2018 World Expeditions Travel Group - Bec Leorke 6/8/2018 12:52:07 PM
