Fielding Road Reconstruction Port Jefferson Road Reconstruction The residents of the approved a 0.25% street levy in November of 204. The 0.25% levy is restricted to construction, reconstruction, resurfacing and maintenance of streets, alleys, bridges, curbs and gutters. Collections started in 205 and the first street projects which included revenue from the levy were completed during the summer of 205. 206 was the first year that street projects were awarded based on a full year of revenue collections. 206-209 will be the peak years for tax-levy funded roadway improvements. Major roadway improvement projects funded with grant dollars and local monies, such as the complete reconstruction of Fielding Road and Port Jefferson Road were completed in 207. It is estimated that 80% of the roadway surfaces will be treated between 200 and 2020.
Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion Water Source and Transmission Line Phase I of the wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system improvements, mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency, began in 205 and was completed in 207. Phase II of the construction project which includes new equipment installation is slated to begin in 208. The most extensive, long-term utility project, over 60 years in the making, has been the acquisition and construction of a new water source and the necessary transmission line. The water wellfield and transmission line went online in October 207. The will no longer be solely dependent upon surface water for our water supply. In addition, drought conditions will no longer force the to have to consider shutting down industry based upon river flow levels.
