SEARCH AND RESCUE INFORMATION - WEEKLY PERIOD: 23 JUN 14 TO 29 JUN 14 DATE/TIME INCIDENT # 21 19:05 140251 UPDATE 23 11:39 140264 23 15:44 140265 24 16:58 140266 25 16:52 140267 24 19:58 140268 25 14:41 140269 25 16:43 140270 26 13:11 140271 PEP REGION INCIDENT SEA ELT/ # PEP #VICTIMS LOCATED VOL ALIVE DEAD NO COMMENTS 8 1-1 8 Columbia Valley SAR members responded on 23 June to assist the RCMP Dive Team in continuing to search for a male who jumped from the rock cliffs at Twin Lakes and failed to surface. The deceased subject was located by the RCMP Dive Team and SAR members assisted in the recovery. SWE LAND 1 1 1 1 Whistler SAR member responded to assist with a female that had sustained a lower leg injury 2 to 3 km up the Flank Trail off Alfa Road (off of Highway 99) near Whistler. The subjects were located near CNR rail line therefore Whistler Fire Rescue performed the rescue. SEA 3 19 2 1 9 Nelson SAR members and 10 Winlaw Fire Dept personnel responded to rescue occupants from a vehicle in the water at the Winlaw bridge. On arrival they found two individuals on a rock nearby and one deceased person still inside the vehicle. The vehicle was removed from the river with an excavator and the deceased individual was extricated and transported to the Fire Hall for transfer to the BC Coroner Service. VIR LAND 1 21 1 21 Cowichan Valley SAR and PEP Air members responded to search for a suicidal male missing since 17 June. Police managed to ping his phone to the Maple Mountain area. After an extensive search of areas of interest RCMP stood SAR down pending further investigation. SWE 1 10 1 5 Ridge Meadows and 5 Coquitlam SAR members responded to search for a 15 year old female that had gone over the upper falls on Gold Creek in Golden Ears Park. SAR set up a net across river and Parks continue to monitor the area. VIR LAND 2 31 2 31 Arrowsmith SAR members responded to search for a couple who were last seen Sunday morning in the Cochrane Road area of Qualicum Beach. SAR located subjects in good shape and turned them over to the RCMP. SWE LAND 1 20 1 20 North Shore Rescue members responded to search for a male hiker that went missing in Lynn Canyon Park near North Vancouver. SAR was stood down after the subject self rescued and contacted police. SWE LAND 1 21 1 21 Chilliwack SAR members responded to search the urban area of Sardis for a missing female with cognitive difficulties. Subject was located unharmed and returned back to her caregiver. NWE 1 5 1 5 Terrace SAR members and Thornhill Fire Department responded to assist RCMP rescue a subject trapped in a whirlpool on Kleazna Creek 15 km east of Terrace. The subject was rescued and transferred to BCAS for medical assessment.

CTL LAND 1 6 1 4 Naramata Fire and 2 Peachland Fire members responded to RCMP request to rescue subjects from a sail boat reported to have capsized on Crescent Beach in Summerland. Crews were stood down enroute when the subject was located on shore in good condition. SWE LAND 15 9 Kent Harrison and 6 Hope SAR members responded to the scene of a multiple vehicle accident on the Trans Canada Highway near Herrling Island where it was suspected that a vehicle had entered the Fraser River. SAR was stood down once police confirmed the vehicle and occupants were on shore. CTL LAND 1 12 1 12 Vernon SAR members responded to assist RCMP with a despondent male reported missing in Fintry. Subject located alive by RCMP. SWE LAND 1 7 1 7 Chilliwack SAR members responded to assist BCAS with the evacuation of an injured hiker from Teapot Hill. The subject was transported using a UTV and passed to ambulance for transport to hospital. CTL SEA CTL 1 4 1 4 Shuswap Rescue One members responded to a BCAS request to rescue an injured person struck by a propeller at Marble Point in the Shuswap Lake area. The subject was transported with an ankle injury and passed to ambulance for transport to hospital. 5 5 New Denver Rescue Society members responded to investigate report of an overturned canoe and kayak on Slocan Lake. Rescue members were advised by RCMP the occupants made it to shore and the canoe and the kayak were pushed to the shoreline by the waves. 1 4 1 4 Shuswap Rescue One members responded to rescue a 26 year old male in medical distress on Shuswap Lake near Sicamous. The subject was rescued and taken to hospital. CTL LAND 1 9 1 9 Central Okanagan SAR members responded to search for a missing male at James Lake near Kelowna. No evidence was found indicating he was in the area and search was suspended by RCMP pending further investigation. SEA LAND 1 17 1 4 Columbia Valley SAR, 9 Golden SAR & 4 PEP Air members responded to RCMP request to search for a missing female in the Edgewater area near Radium Hot Springs. Subject was located alive by RCMP. SWE LAND 1 16 1 16 Squamish SAR members responded to rescue an injured female at Shannon Falls. Subject was rescued using HETS and was turned over to BCAS.

The subject was transferred to BCAS for medical treatment. NEA LAND 1 13 1 13 South Cariboo SAR members responded to rescue an injured male following a quad accident at Gustafsen Lake. The patient was rescued by BCAS and taken to 100 Mile House Hospital. SWE LAND 1 8 1 8 Pemberton SAR members responded to search for an overdue kayaker travelling from Whistler to Lillooet. SAR was stood down by RCMP pending further investigation. VIR LAND 1 2 1 2 Cowichan Valley SAR members responded to rescue a subject 30 feet down an embankment off Renfrew FSR. Subject was rescued by others on scene and SAR was stood down. VIR LAND 1 12 1 12 Alberni Valley Rescue Squad members responded to an RCMP request to assist an injured mountain biker near the McQuinas School in Port Alberni. SAR were stood down by RCMP because the Port Alberni Fire Dept had responded. SEA LAND 1 9 1 9 Fernie SAR members responded to rescue an injured cyclist on the Swine Flu Trail. They located the patient, packaged him and carried him out on a stretcher where he was transferred to a waiting ambulance. SWE LAND 1 4 1 4 Squamish SAR members responded to a BCAS request to rescue a diabetic female without food near Squamish Valley Service Road. Subject was located behind a landslide and SAR members transported the subject across the slide to a waiting ambulance. SWE LAND 1 21 1 21 Squamish SAR members responded to rescue a 52 year old female that had fallen and was unconscious. Subject sustained a minor head injury and was airlifted out to the Squamish Hospital by the RCMP helicopter. NEA CTL 12 12 Prince George SAR members responded to RCMP request to investigate report of body floating in the Nechako River near Prince George. RCMP stood SAR down when no evidence of anyone being in the river was found. 4 4 4 1 Nicola Valley SAR member and 3 convergent volunteers responded to rescue four people after their boat sank in Nicola Lake near Merritt. WEEKLY INCIDENT REPORT 23 29 June 2014 FLOODING On 29 Jun 14, Mudd Creek near Squamish overflowed its banks causing a Forest Service Road to wash out. Several hundred people were attending a gathering and were stranded. A contractor opened a path to provide an exit for people to walk out before the road was opened the following day. BODY RECOVERY On 23 Jun 14, Kamloops SAR responded to assist RCMP with a body recovery from the railroad tracks near Ashcroft. En route the SAR team was stood down because the body had been recovered by others. On 26 Jun 14, Nelson SAR assisted RCMP with a body recovery from the Cottonwood Falls Creek area. On 29 Jun 14, Nechako Valley SAR assisted RCMP with a body recovery at Holy Cross Lake. EVIDENCE SEARCH On 26 Jun 14, Prince George SAR assisted RCMP conduct an evidence search in the Lansdowne area. LANDSLIDE On 26 Jun 14, Mount Waddington Regional District coordinated a geo-tech assessment of an area for a potential land slide caused by several debris flow paths in the vicinity of a Quatsino development. MISCELLANEOUS On 23 Jun 14, several residents were temporarily evacuated to a reception center during a gas leak incident in a residential area of Kimberley. On 28 Jun 14, Golden Fire Department responded outside their jurisdiction to provide medical assistance to a 9 year old boy in cardiac arrest on the Trans Canada Highway. The subject was transported to hospital by BCAS.
