As the second highest ski resort in Japan, the mountain boasts 19 different ski resorts that are intertwined and connected through their comprehensive lift system. A single lift ticket gives the skier access to all 52 lifts in the resort. Shiga Kogen is the largest ski resort in Japan, and one of the largest in the world. After spending time skiing the expansive slopes, you can relax your muscles in the natural onsens. It has over seven natural hot spring sources which feed into many of the local hotels and bath facilities located within the hotels across the resort. Optional Tour Obuse $125 (or 15000 Yen in Japan) Today we will visit the nearby village of Obuse. Hokusai, the famous Edo Period wood-block print artist spent the last years of his life in Obuse as the guest of Takai Kozan, wealthy merchant and Hokusai s patron and student. Hokusai is perhaps most famous for his series Thirty Six Views of Mount Fuji, which depict scenes of the famous mountain, including the world famous Great Wave off Kanagawa. A collection of Hokusai s artwork is displayed at the Hokusai Museum, including two festival floats whose ceilings are decorated with a dragon, a phoenix and his signature waves. Next, we will have lunch at a local sake brewery. In the afternoon we will visit the home of Tokai Kozan. Before returning back to the ski area, you will have some time to try one of the famous Obuse sweets made with chestnuts, or browse the many shops.
