Hi, all! and I attended a District Youth Services Seminar at the Baton Rouge motel on Thursday night, which presented all the Rotary programs aimed at secondary schools to the invited school principals and /or their delegates. Unfortunately, due to family illness, the St. Joseph s Director of Operations had to cancel at the last minute. The young people who have been through these programs (RYPEN, RYLA, etc.) did great jobs presenting what they got out of them. Doing the gates at the Knox Festival on Saturday February28/Sunday March 1 will also involve us collecting the entry fees, we have now been told. The roster is still being finalized between the clubs, and should be OK later this week. Council would like us to do 2 X 3.5 hour shifts from 9-30 to 4-30 but the other clubs may prefer to stick with the current 3- hour ones. Keep well, and happy! TTFN from Mike. Mike Spark President

KNOX FESTIVAL OPPORTUNITY AND PILOT PROJECT 9/2/2015 Hi everyone: Last Thursday evening Graeme and myself met with Knox Council representative and Presidents and Community Directors from the Knox Cluster. Knox Council want to engage the Rotary s in the region (i.e., the cluster) in various events throughout the year. During these events, we may not always receive a monetary donation; but it will give us an opportunity to: Fundraise, in most circumstances Raise the profile of Rotary Get new Membership provide awareness to encourage people to join Gain community awareness of local and overseas Rotary projects Have the involvement of Rotaract raise awareness and hopefully their membership. 2) Activity/Fundraiser: Selling bottled water with Rotary labelling (promotion of all 5 clubs, and Polio Plus) - $2 per bottle. SunSmart selling Rotary labelled sunscreen tubes and hats (possibly next year!) Marquee set up within the grounds of the Festival Roster hours 10.00am 5.00pm Opportunity for Rotary Signage, pamphlets to hand out etc. Twilight Cinema (Saturday night 5pm 11pm): Selling the bottled water? Possible involvement of Rotaract to fill this roster. If not, we are not expected to fill this roster. Opportunity for Rotaract Signage and membership pamphlets. Knox Council will also help us to develop networks and introductions to people within the Council; leading onto more informed information about our community and how we can engage. They are also flagging how they can be more involved in the community (ie. Schools) with the help and support of Rotary. NEXT STEPS Roster All Cluster members to be involved. Mike/Graeme: will put out a roster to all members at the meeting. I encourage you to put your name against times & whether you are willing to do a Gate, Water Station or both. We need to send in our numbers by Friday at the latest. Our first opportunity to be engaged is the Knox Festival which is coming up very fast. Saturday 28 Feb Sunday 1 March. I know this is short notice (3 weeks away) - but it is a valuable opportunity for us and the Cluster. There are two main areas they want Rotary clubs involved: Entry Gates: 2-3 Rotarians to be at the gates greeting & guiding people to payment booths Council will collect money, and security will be there. There are 3 entry gates, Burwood Highway, Glenfern Road, and Court entry Roster hours 10.00am 5.00pm Opportunity for Rotary signage, pamphlets to hand out etc., Rotary cards directing them to Water station. (also include contact number for Rotary s or District site.) Kevin Harrison (Rowville/Lysterfield): Costing water bottles & labelling; signage, cards. Barry Vickers (Bayswater) - will talk to Rotaract about their involvement throughout the day and also the Twilight Cinema. District: Rotary Flags (big tall ones!) Council: Provision of Marquee; Advertising, signage frames, etc. They will also purchase from us a quantity of water. The Cluster is costing Rotary T-shirts to be purchased by members and worn at the gig (for around $-5). Otherwise, our existing FTG Rotary shirts will be also usable. If you have any questions at all please contact myself or Graeme. Regards from Mike I envisage three shifts as below for Gates and Water Sales on each day. The shifts will be filled by all 5 clubs in the Knox Cluster, but there are quite a few shifts to fill. Your help (including partner and anyone else) would be greatly appreciated. A roster will be circulated at the meeting. SATURDAY Gates and Water Sales Shift 1. (9:00am 12 noon) (9.00 to include induction) Shift 2 (12 noon 2:30pm) Shift 3 (2:30pm 5:00pm) SUNDAY Shift 1 (10:00am 12 noon) Shift 2 (12 noon 2:30pm) Shift 3 (2:30pm 5:00pm)
