ITINERARY DAY 1: IVALO - NUORGAM Arriving at either Ivalo or Kirkenes airport today you will then transfer on to the Nuorgam Holiday Village. A welcome introduction and dinner in the restaurant will then be followed by an evening in the company of a local guide, where you will have a chance to search out the dazzling displays of the Northern Lights. The evening will include some useful tips on how best to photograph this unique phenomenon. (D) DAY 2: NUORGAM Following a delicious breakfast, pick up your winter clothing and begin a snowshoe hike to the beautiful arctic fells. After lunch, your guide will introduce you to the other equipment available to you throughout your stay; cross country skis, kick sledges and toboggans. There is the option this afternoon to kick sledge hike to Nuorgam villages before making use of the sauna facilities. After dinner, go in search of Aurora Borealis once more (other night activities available). (B,L,D) DAY 3: NUORGAM A snowmobile sleigh ride takes you on top of the fells where you have a moment to enjoy the total silence and amazing views to the Norwegian fells and Teno river valley. Lunch will be served in a traditional Lappish hut kota. Your guide will show you how to make a fire and tell you stories about nature, wildlife and local lifestyle. Then discover the art of ice fishing, still carried out by locals, to catch arctic trout or grayling. Return to the lodge for dinner and another Northern Lights activity. (B,L,D) DAY 4: NUORGAM Depart after breakfast and transfer back to the airport at either Ivalo or Kirkenes. (B) DAY 5: NUORGAM This morning provides a chance to experience the dramatic Arctic wilderness by snowmobile, with a safari up onto the nearby fells of Nuorgam. The journey takes you on towards the beautiful setting of Lake Pulmankijärvi, the border lake between Finland and Norway, before returning to the village in time for lunch. This afternoon then sees you visiting a nearby reindeer farm, to hear stories of the Sami and enjoy hot drinks in a traditional Sami laavu, before heading back for some free time before dinner and an evening in pursuit of the beautiful Aurora Borealis. DAY 6: NUORGAM Transferring to a husky farm on the Norwegian side of the River Teno this morning, you'll begin a stunning two-hour dog sled safari through the spectacular Arctic countryside. Driving your own team of dogs, the journey takes you along the scenic Teno River Valley, through a winter wonderland of frozen forests and Arctic tundra. Stopping by an open fire to enjoy some warming drinks, you'll then head back to Nuorgam. This afternoon is at leisure to try a range of free winter activities including kick sledging, snowshoeing, tobogganing and cross-country skiing. ACCOMMODATION NUORGAM NUORGAM LODGE Family owned and family run, Nuorgam Holiday Village lies along the banks of the Teno River, some 500 kilometres north of the Arctic Circle. Accessible from Ivalo Airport, the village provides a choice of accommodation, with a range of basic cottages and apartments available. Cottages come equipped with cooking facilities and some also have TVs and toilets, whilst a modern building close to the cottages provides showers and toilet facilities, along with a sauna.
