Event Summary EVENT SUMMARY The fourth annual Gulf Environment & Sustainable Development Forum took place under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz. The event has grown in popularity and prestige since its launch in 2010, with 35 senior level speakers converging to present a range of topics impacting on the environment in the Gulf region, including Renewable Energy, Waste Management and Recycling Innovations, Wastewater and Desalination as well as Energy Efficiency. For the first time in Saudi Arabia, the conference was 100% paperless, with conference delegates receiving a complimentary ipad mini pre-loaded with a GEF app, enabling them to organise their day, take notes and network with fellow participants, exhibitors and sponsors. The exhibition was once again a leading environmental gathering, attracting environmental investors, specialists and enthusiasts from both the public and private sectors. The international exhibition featured 54 exhibitors presenting innovative environmental solutions, 40% of which represented leading international environmental organisations eager to gain a key foothold in the Kingdom and to build strong relationships with the Presidency of Meteorology & Environment. OPENING CEREMONY The VIP opening ceremony was officially inaugurated by H.R.H. Prince Turki Bin Nasser Bin Abdulaziz, President of the Presidency of Meteorology & Environment, leading the exhibition tour and the welcome speeches. H.R.H. Prince Mansour Bin Miteb Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; H.R.H. Sustainable Initiatives The organisers have made every effort to limit the use of paper and when doing so to use environmentally friendly products wherever possible including badges, lanyards, and certificates. In an effort to contribute towards a creation of a paperless economy as well as encourage participants to reduce their printing habits, the conference was the first in the Kingdom to be 100% paperless.
