Price This year, we are offering the trip at 165. This is 10 less than last year! Two reasons for this: Increased numbers so the costs are spread over more students Previously we have given students 5 back on Friday evening for dinner. This year, students will need to bring money with them for this Other than this and lunch on Friday (and of course any spending money!) everything is included in this price.
Security With the events of the last few months, security is clearly an important important issue. IF WE DIDN T THINK IT WAS SAFE TO RUN THE TRIP, WE WOULDN T! Mrs. Carlin in always in contact with Cornwall Council. Advice by the Outdoor Education Panel and Cornwall Council is that both are happy for all trips to proceed at present Although London is a crowded area, we will ensure that we avoid large crowds of people
What steps have we taken? Routes mapped to ensure minimal time on roads Walking against direction of traffic where there is a need Most travel via tube or overground or enclosed pedestrianized zones Emergency contact for myself to be provided Emergencies only please! Contact via school reception during normal school hours
Security Based on all of this, we WILL run the trip unless advised not too by Cornwall Council.
Payments and Refunds As I m sure you can understand, we have to pay for many parts of the trip in advance. As a result of this, once you have committed to the trip, we are unable to offer refunds should you or your child no longer want to go the trip for any reason. The only way you will be able to get any payments refunded is if another student takes the place In any case, the refund is non-refundable.
Key Points - Travel Travel by train and tube Outward journey from Liskeard station is 9.16. Therefore, students must arrive prompt into school as normal (ideally earlier!!). Minibus leaving at 8.45. I will be waiting for students from around 8.30 outside the old hall. Arrive back into Liskeard station on Friday at 11pm Students must be collected from the station. If it looks like the return journey will be or is delayed, we will get students to contact you to let you know.
Baggage As seen earlier, we are traveling by mini-bus, train and tube and are not going to the hostel until the evening 1 backpack May not seem much, but all students need is: Change of clothes Nightwear/pyjamas Towel Toiletries - basics Pen/Pencil Anything the students take with them need to be carried around London by them! Lunch on Thursday needs to be a packed lunch so can be in a carrier bag rather than lunchbox. Could be purchased on the train but is more expensive.
Key Points - Accommodation Staying at Thameside Youth Hostel - YHA East of Central London around the Canary Wharf/02 area In order to maximum evening activities, we will not return to the hostel until relatively late. However, we are unable to travel on Friday until 9.30 so it will be a later than normal start. 0345 371 9756
Key Points - Food The meals that are included are Thursday dinner, Friday breakfast and lunch. Thursday evening we will book in at a restaurant in Westfield/Covent Garden. During the social time. Friday breakfast and packed lunch provided by the hostel Friday evening students will need to purchase something from the station. Students will need to bring money for this. This has changed from last year when students were given 5 back out of the money that was paid. This year, this is reflected in the reduced cost.
Next Steps All interested students will be given a letter tomorrow with a return slip. If your child would like to go on the trip, the slip needs to be completed and returned to the finance office as soon as possible, remember it is first come first served. If your child is one of the first 27, they will be told and set up on the system. The option to pay the deposit should appear on your online account the next working day. Deposits of 35 need to be paid by Friday 1 st December to secure the place. After this date, if not all the spaces are filled, it will be a case of paying the deposit as soon as possible after it appearing on the online account.
Next Steps Payments can be made online, over the phone or in person with a debit/credit card. The school no longer accepts cash or cheques. Further instalments of 65 need to be paid on or before: Instalment 1: By Friday 23 March 2018 Instalment 2: By Friday 22 June 2018
Next Steps If a student returns their slip after the 27 spaces have been filled, they will be placed on the reserve list. If any students drop out or are removed from the trip, the place will be offered to the first person on the reserve list and so on. If your child is on the reserve list, there you will not need to pay a deposit or other instalments unless a place becomes available. There is no obligation to fill a space if one becomes available.
