OSWEGO COUNTY ATV CLUB, INC. Happy Trails Volume 1, Issue 4, June, 2013 ATV RODEO AND DEALER EXTRAVAGANZA Make sure to mark your calendar and come to the ATV Rodeo and Dealer Extravaganza scheduled for June 29 and 30, 2013. This two day event will be held at the club property on County Route 22 in Altmar. There will be a car climb (without the car), drags, and of course, the ever popular mud bog. We have lots of dealers lined up to be available to tell you about their products and to sell some things as well. Also, for those that like homemade baked goods, we have asked all the good bakers in Oswego County to make something for our Bake Sale, so there will be lots of treats on hand. There will also be two top cooks (Rich and Jr.) cooking up hamburgers, hotdogs, pulled pork sandwiches, and other goodies to tingle the taste buds of all our ATV enthusiasts. Please be sure to come and let others know as well so that this fund raiser for the club is a huge success! COMBINED FIRE DEPT. POKER RUN AND POLITICIAN RIDE Another event to mention is the combined Altmar Firemen s Poker Run and Politician Ride to be held on July 27, 2013. We need to help support both of these groups as they support us. Thanks to all our volunteers (including the Fire Department) and to the politicians who support our efforts. We have invited many local politicians as well as state and federal politicians to come and ride our trails. Let s try for a great turn out and have some fun and show these groups what our club is all about. Remember one of our mottos, Support Those Who Support Us. SPONSOR ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS In an effort to practice what we preach, - SUPPORT THOSE WHO SUPPORT US we would like to acknowledge the following sponsors this month, Brian Parkhurst, NAPA in Pulaski; Brian comes to our meetings and is a big supporter of our club. Also, Buck s Restaurant in Williamstown, where we had our meeting. Also a special acknowledgement to F.X. Caprara who made a phone call and I am assured that Channel 10 News will be on hand for our Rodeo. Thanks to all our Sponsors! NEXT MEETING: 7/20/13 11:00 AM @ Monirae s Restaurant, 688 Cty Rte. 10, Pennellville, NY

Page 2 Happy Trails PRESIDENT S MESSAGE On Wednesday, June 5, 2013, the NYS DEC held a Public Comment meeting at the Fish Hatchery in Altmar to explain their Chateaugay Forest Draft ATV Connector Trail Plan because of a formal request made by our Oswego County ATV Club. Key DEC people were there, namely Dave, Sinclair, Bob Messenger, Ken Lynch, Dan Sawchuck, among others. Dan Sawchuck explained the basics of the plan which will allow for a public access trail on Dam Road, which the club will have to maintain. The entire plan can be viewed online at http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/90727.html Also if you would like to give comment or input on this Draft Plan you can email djsawchu@gw.dec.state.ny.us or U.S. Mail: Daniel Sawchuck, NYSDEC, 2133 County Route 22, Altmar, NY 13302, until July 8, 2013. First off, I want to thank all of our club members who showed up at this meeting. I didn t get a formal count, but the room was full and if you arrived after 7:00 pm, it was standing room only. After the DEC presentation, thirteen people asked to be heard, including a letter from Senator Patty Richie (which was read by her assistant Holly Carpenter), the Oswego County Dept. of Tourism, an Oswego County Wildlife organization (hunting, trapping, fishing), members of the Boylston/Pulaski Snowmobile Club, community members, club members, and myself, all of which were in favor of this Connector Trail. My comments were to the effect that this is the people s land, and the people should have access to it and that the club would respect it as we do all our trails. There were no negative public comments. I personally invited the DEC people, to come and join us for a real ride and see what our club is all about. Bob Messenger accepted the invitation. Overall, I felt the meeting was positive and given enough time to jump through the bureaucratic hoops I believe this connector trail may happen. We ll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, please respect the trails we do have, because without those, we wouldn t be in existence. Steve Cronk, Oswego County ATV Club President REMINDERS 06/29/& 30/13 ATV Rodeo and Dealers Extravaganza - Club Property 07/13/13 Landowner s Dinner - Club Property 07/27/13 Altmar Fire Dept. Poker Run and Politician s Ride Altmar Fire Dept. 08/07-11/13 CLUB CAMPOUT - Location to be Announced call for details. Please be reminded, in order to ride our trails that are owned by private landowners, you must have a club membership or have permission by a club officer or the Board to obtain a day pass in order to ride those trails. PLEASE abide by this rule! An elderly woman called 911 to report that her car had been broken into. Hysterical, she breathlessly told the dispatcher, they ve stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator! Stay calm said the dispatcher an officer is on the way. A few minutes later an officer radioed in, Disregard the elderly woman s call, she got in the back seat by mistake!!!!! VOLUNTEERS ARE ALWAYS NEEDED PLEASE COME AND HELP!

Page 3 Happy Trails FOR FUN RIDE On June 1 st the For Fun Ride that replaced the cancelled Politician s ride was a great success. About 50 machines met at the Altmar Hotel and left about 10:00 am. The ride took Kevin s Trail to Tubbs Road to Richland where everyone stopped at the new ice cream stand. The owner of the stand had to call in reinforcements to help because it seemed almost everyone wanted an ice cream. (It was really good, too!) From there the group took the Longo Trail and the Espisito Trail to hook up to the Pulaski Trail which took everyone back to the Altmar Hotel. A good portion of the group had lunch at the Hotel and a good time and ride was had by all. After lunch some of the group broke off and checked out the new ladies spot on Smokey Road Trail. It s the first time some of us had ever seen flowers growing from that particular container. CAMPOUT There was a group of about six campers who braved the down-right cold temperatures and rainy weather of the Memorial Day weekend to get together for some camping. Let s just say some were brave and got in some riding, but most just stayed by the camp fires that were constant day and night and the camper furnaces got quite a workout. Let s hope and pray for some great weather for the upcoming Campout that will be held August 7 to 11, 2013. Make sure you check out the schedule and try to make arrangements to come and join in, if not for all of the events, at least some. It was a great time last year and I m sure it will be a greater time this year. For details as to where it will be, check with any of the club officers or board and they will fill you in. RAFFLE NEWS An update on Mike Cecere (or as some call him Big Mike ). He is due to get out of the hospital on Thursday, June 20, and he s excited to get selling these raffle tickets again. He plans on getting right back in the groove and will be in charge of ticket sales. Please welcome Mike back when you see him and please either buy a ticket or take a few to sell. This was a great fundraiser for the club last year and we would like to make it a success again this year. MEETING HIGHLIGHTS The Railroad bed from Austin Road is temporarily closed. The bridge washed out and it is being worked on (work detail right after the meeting). As soon as it is fixed, the trail should reopen. The club would like to thank the Pierpont s for the generous donation of a refrigerator and stove. I m sure they will be put to good use. Thanks again. Mike Ortman won the 50/50 of $82.50. He donated back $30 to the club. Thank you Mike and from now a group of us are going to let you buy our tickets for us so that some of your luck will rub off on us!
