DAY 2: Nairobi / Lake Naivasha Distance to park: 140 km Estimate driving time to park: 3 hours After breakfast, you will receive a safari briefing before your East Africa safari start. Your day begins spending time in Nairobi where we visit the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the most successful orphan-elephant rescue and rehabilitation centre in the world and one of the pioneering conservation organisations for wildlife and habitat protection in East Africa. We also visit the Giraffe Centre, which protects the highly endangered Rothschild's giraffe s
and end the tour with a visit to the Karen Blixen Museum. Enjoy lunch in Nairobi before we drive through the Rift Valley to Lake Naivasha. DAY 3: Lake Nakuru After breakfast, drive to Lake Nakuru National Park where you will enjoy a full day with game drives. Lake Nakuru is a shallow alkaline lake in the Rift Valley, renowned for its spectacular flamingo population and one of the world's greatest ornithological spectacles. Although Lake Nakuru is primarily a bird sanctuary, animals such as zebras, gazelles, Rothschild giraffe, impala, rhino (sanctuary), lion and leopard are also found at the lake. Overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge (standard room) with lunch, dinner and breakfast included. DAY 4: Lake Naivasha / Masai Mara Distance between parks: 235 km Estimate driving time between parks: 6 hours Enjoy a boat excursion on Lake Naivasha, which is the highest lake in the Rift Valley and one of its most beautiful. Fringed by papyrus and with the extinct Mount Longonot as a backdrop, this is a wonderful place to watch and photograph birds. We leave the lake area behind and drive through the Rift Valley to the Masai Mara National Reserve, followed by an afternoon game drive in the park. The annual highlight is the Great Wildebeest Migration (between July and end October), creating one of the world's supreme natural spectacles. The wildebeest forms a magnificent sight when they enter into the Mara and cross the crocodile-infested waters of the Mara River. DAY 5: Masai Mara National Reserve Optional: Masai Mara Balloon Safari Make a reservation for the early morning balloon safari (cost will be for your account and is not included in your package) or enjoy morning and afternoon game drives (or a full day game drive). With a bit of luck, you will see some of the "big five." The great diversity of species present in this area is impressive. The Masai Mara has the highest concentration of land mammals compared to all other parks! Overnight at Mara Serena Safari Lodge (standard room) with lunch, dinner and breakfast included. DAY 6: Masai Mara National Reserve / Serengeti National Park Distance between parks: 350 km Estimate driving time between parks: 7 ½ hours After breakfast drive from the Masai Mara to the Kenya/Tanzania border at Isebenia/Sirari which is west of the national parks to the Serengeti. Enter the Serengeti National Park through the Ndabaka Park gate in Western Serengeti and enjoy en-route game drives to the lodge. Arrive late afternoon in the Central Serengeti with herds of animals running across vast open spaces and predators hunting their prey. DAY 7: Serengeti National Park Optional: Serengeti Balloon Safari Make a reservation for the early morning balloon safari (cost will be for your account and is not included in your package) or enjoy morning and afternoon game drives (or a full day game drive). DAY 8: Serengeti National Park / Ngorongoro Crater Distance between parks: 170 km Estimate driving time between parks: 3 hours Enjoy a morning en-route game drive to the park gate followed by a picnic lunch before heading to Ngorongoro Crater. After bidding the Serengeti farewell, you will visit Olduvai Gorge, a famous archaeological site. The gorge lies
on the location of an ancient lake, covered by thick layers of volcanic ash, which carefully preserved the world's earliest records of humankind and which was unearthed by the devoted Leakey family. The museum displays some of their fascinating discoveries and remarkable artefacts. En-route to Ngorongoro, you can opt to visit a Maasai Village near the crater. (The Masaai charge US$30 per person. The proceeds are used to buy water and other necessities for the tribe that you will visit. This entrance fee to the village will be for your account and is not included in your package). DAY 9: Ngorongoro Crater / Lake Manyara National Park Distance between parks: 60 km Estimate driving time between parks: 2 hours After breakfast, descend 600 m into the magnificent crater for game drives in the Ngorongoro crater. Witness an unforgettable spectacle of African wildlife - a world teeming with animals. The park sustains a vast variety of animals, including the black rhino, with its year-round water supply and fodder. Another big drawcard to this picturesque park is its dense population of predators, which includes lions, hyenas, jackals, cheetahs and the everelusive leopard. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the hippo pool near the Mandusi Swamp and a drive through the haunting forest will allow you to feast your eyes on some of the most spectacular green vegetation you will ever see. Later in the afternoon, you will ascend to the crater rim and drive to Lake Manyara. Overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Safari Lodge (standard room) with lunch, dinner and breakfast included. DAY 10: Lake Manyara National Park After breakfast, drive down into the Rift Valley on the way to Lake Manyara National Park followed by full day game drives with a picnic lunch. DAY 11: Lake Manyara National Park / via Arusha / Amboseli National Park Distance between parks: 320 km Estimate driving time between parks: 5 ½ hours After breakfast proceeds for your picnic lunch to Arusha, the central point of the Cape to Cairo route. Continue to Amboseli National Park, crossing and clearing customs at the Tanzania/Kenya border of Namanga. Enter Kenya and proceed to Amboseli National Park; if time permits you will be treated to an en-route game drive. DAY 12: Amboseli National Park / Nairobi Airport Estimate driving time to airport: 3 hours Amboseli is famous for its vast herds of elephants and stunning views of Kilimanjaro on clear days.
