Invitation from Richard Matheson, Executive Director of ASSDA Following its success in 2012, ASSDA looks forward to welcoming you to our annual flagship event, PacRim Stainless 2013 on the Gold Coast. Now in its 20 th year, the conference has long been valued as the event that brings together Australia s stainless steel industry and colleagues from abroad. It is the forum where we meet to discuss the important issues facing our industry and our region, share knowledge and learn from one another in support of growing the market for stainless steel in Australia. The Asia-Pacific is a vital region for stainless steel and its raw materials. The vast majority of stainless steel is manufactured and consumed in this region, as are the important ingredients including nickel. Our theme this year will focus on new strategies for longterm survivability and how we, as an industry, can deliver a better cost outcome and plan for long-term growth in the current economic environment. Delegates can expect to learn from our high-profile speakers, who will likely have an influence in shaping the future of stainless steel in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference s social events offer unparalleled networking opportunities and the Barry Durrant Memorial Trophy is again up for grabs for the winners of our annual PacRim Golf Ambrose. I d like to thank each of our conference sponsors for their support, whom without, this event would not be possible. Join us in October for PacRim Stainless 2013. I look forward to seeing you there. What will the conference program cover? Two half-day conference sessions providing: A global view of the stainless steel industry Analysis of how Australia and other regions are negotiating economic challenges Case studies from specifiers, fabricators, asset owners and councils Success stories in an open market with a high Australian dollar New strategies and technologies for survival when we can t compete on price but can excel in quality and service to deliver a better cost outcome Are there social and networking events? Both nights of the conference will kick off with a happy hour, including an Aussie-themed happy hour on the Thursday. Our Stainless Ahoy! themed Gala Dinner will provide excellent opportunities for networking, team building and fun! Come dressed in your best nautical attire and get ready to set sail on ASSDA s most renowned networking dinner event. With the support of Stainless Sections Pty Ltd, ASSDA will also host its Annual PacRim 2-ball Golf Ambrose on the Friday afternoon, where players will be vying for the Barry Durrant Memorial Trophy. Non-golfing delegates may enjoy a visit to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary and experience Australia s native wildlife shows and encounters - bring the family! Following another happy hour on the Friday, we ll enjoy our buffet-style Farewell Dinner at Gold Coast renowned restaurant, Bazaar, and reflect on the conference highlights.
