Isletas Las Gemelas Beautiful islands near Granada (Nicaragua) "Las lsletas" in the Lake Nicaragua, close to Granada are a magnificent group of three hundred sixty five little islands, "one for every day of the year" according to the people of Nicaragua. Scientists believe that these islands are the remains of a large explosion of the nearby dormant Volcano Mombacho. Las Gemelas consists of two sister islands with a total surface of 0,80 Acres (3233 m2), just outside the little harbour "El Diamante". It takes about 15 minutes by boat from the mainland of Granada. On one side of Las Gemelas there is an island with a luxury hotel on it and on the other side it has the open view over the lake. Building a house is very well possible. Electricity can be provided via the neighbouring islands on some of which houses have already been built. Water can be pumped out of the lake and filtered for private use. The location of these islands is astonishing with the view on the dormant Volcano Mombacho and Granada is at 20 minutes by boat.

Although investors have still been a bit hesitant, some the large private investments have been carried out very recently. Especially along the Southern Pacific coast a number of large hotels and real estate developments have been realized. Together with Chinese investors studies have been carried out to determine the feasibility of a coast to coast canal connection, which may have a significant impact of Nicaragua s economy. The construction of the canal, the harbours etc. will start in 2015.
