THE GOALS OF THE RAMSAR STRATEGIC PLAN 2009-14 Wise use (Goal 1) - Promotion of the wise use of coastal wetlands is a key focus of BSW Initiative; Wetlands of International Importance (Goal 2) - Many of the major Black Sea coastal wetland are listed as Ramsar sites); International cooperation (Goal 3) - Sound International cooperation is a crucial part of BSW Initiative; Institutional capacity and effectiveness (Goal 4) BSW Initiative will build the regional capacity to implement the Convention focusing on enhanced CEPA activities to catalyze implementation of wise use.

THE INITIATIVE The concept as recommendation of the workshop on Black Sea coastal wetlands held in Odessa in September 2000; Wetlands International supports/leadership in the BSW Initiative s development; Ramsar European Regional Meeting in Bled, Slovenia 2001, supported BSW Initiativee; Black Sea Basin countries supported the BSW Initiative during Ramsar COP9, Uganda (Resolution IX.7);

Odessa Regional Conference: Stopping the loss of Black Sea Coastal Wetlands: the establishment of a regional initiative, (Odessa, 30-31 st October 2007); Odessa Declaration adopted by the 46 participants of Odessa Regional Conference from Bulgaria, Georgia, Romania, the Russian Federation, Turkey and Ukraine for establishing the future cooperation in the field of wise use of coastal wetlands along the coast of the Black and Azov Seas; Continuation of consultation process during 2008 and 2009 for development of the BSW Initiative.

FIRST MEETING of BSW MANAGEMENT BODY (Tulcea, 16-17 February 2010) Terms of References (ToR) of the BSW; Management Body; Action Plan for the Initiative; Coordinating Unit for 2010 (DDBRA); National Working Groups were established in Bulgaria and Romania. (NWG will provide their input for the Coordination Unit.); website (www.blackseawet.org) launched during September 2010 in 6 languages (Bulgarian, Georgian, Romanian, Turkish, Ukrainian and English.

SECOND MEETING OF THE MANAGEMENT BODY (Tulcea, 4-8 October 2010) Adoption of the Rules of Procedures; Adoption of the Work Plan 2011 and budget; Adoption of the Action Plan 2011 2015; Adoption of the structure of reporting on the over view of current status wetlands international importance in Black Sea coastal area;

SECOND MEETING OF THE MANAGEMENT BODY (Tulcea, 4-8 October 2010) Adoption of the BSW Initiative Logo; Reception and endorsement of the National Working Groups reports; Adoption of the structure and content of the BSW Initiative website; Adoption of the rules for the project proposals and labelling the projects that contribute to the BSW Initiative s objectives; Decision of the date and venue of the next meeting of the Management Body.

Activities proposed for 2011-2012 Meeting of BSW Management Body (3 rd ); Create a data base with the existing information; Identify the priorities for the management of BAS coastal wetlands; Develop cooperation with MedWet and other organisations; Monitoring issue, and surveing procedure; Recreation areas development in BAS; Wind farm development; Initiate a project proposal for BSW Initiative based on the priorities indentified; Meeting of BSW MB (4 th ).
