The weather in Bucharest during the month of June typically has daily highs increasing from 25 C to 28 C. 1.2 Travel Documents Please be sure to bring the formal invitation letter(s) (when applicable), your hotel booking and all other documents provided to you by the CYFI Secretariat to Romania. If you have any problems or questions before or during your travels, please feel free to contact CYFI at one of the above numbers. Please be sure to have a valid visa to enter Romania. B. Arrival 1.1 Arriving at Otopeni Airport (Henri Coandă International) Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport is situated 16,5 km from the city center of Bucharest, and is easily reached via public transportation. Please note that CYFI will not be arranging airport pick-ups. PUBLIC TRANSPORT Busses: The city center is most easily reached from the airport via public busses. Most of the central hotels, and the hotels recommended by CYFI, are situated near one of the following two bus stops: Universitate (University) and Piata Unirii (Unirii Sqare). Bus 783 Express line: this line runs day and night. During the day, this bus leaves every 20 minutes. At night, the bus leaves every 40 minutes. From the airport, the Universitate stop is the 13th stop,, while Piata Unirii is the 14th stop. For either stop, plan to travel for 1 1,5 hours. Bus 780 Express line: connects Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport with the Gara de Nord (main railway station in Bucharest city center). Bus terminals at the airport: both buses can be found at a stop in front of either the Arrivals or the Departures Terminals. When traveling with the bus, you will need a ticket. The price for a one-way trip is 3,5 lei (0.77 euro). A round-trip ticket will cost 7 lei (1.5 euro). The tickets can be purchased only from the card desk in front of the Arrivals Terminal. Taxis: Pre-ordered taxi services: you may order a taxi upon your arrival to the airport by using the touch screen devices in the public area of the Arrivals Terminal. Taxis can be found directly outside of the terminal on the first floor. You must show the ticket issued by the automatic touch screen. The charges vary between 1,39 lei per km and 3,50 lei per km (0,30-0,77 euro/km). Attention: Be cautious of fake taxi-drivers. You must wait for the taxi number which is written on your ticket received from the touch screen. Maximum Price for distance- 3.5 lei / km (0,77 euro); Maximum Price for starting- 3.5 lei / km (0,77 euro); The estimated distance from the airport to Unirii Sqare (city center) is about 18 km (30-60 minutes) and will cost approximately 6 15 Euros. Other distances: Universitate (University): 17 km, 25 63 minutes, 6 14 euros. Piata Romana (Romana Sqare) 16 km, 24 60 minutes, 5 13 euros. Piata Victoriei (Victoriei Sqare) 15 km, 22 56 minutes, 5 12 euros. *Before taking the public transport or a taxi, please make sure that you change some money in the local currency. The local currency is Lei, and 1 euro = 4,4 lei. You can change money in the airport at the currency exchange. 1.2 Arriving at Baneasa Airport (Aurel Vlaicu International) Baneasa Airport (Aurel Vlaicu International) is located approximately 10 kilometers from the city center of Bucharest, and is easily reached via public transportation. Please note that CYFI will not be arranging airport pick-ups. Busses: The city center is most easily reached from the airport via public busses: 112, 148, 301 and 335. Each of these busses travel to Universitate and Piata Unirii in about 30 minutes. When traveling with the bus, you will need a magnetic card. You can purchase this card at a desk located outside of the airport at the bus terminal (approximately 400m from the airport). The price of the magnetic card is 5 lei (1.2 euro), with an additional cost of 30 euro for bus trips. Note: this airport is not common for cross-continental flights. If you are travelling to this airport, please contact CYFI for further details. Quick taxis: the taxi station is found by the exit of the Arrivals Terminal, on the upper deck of the first floor. C. Hotel Details CYFI has reserved blocks of rooms at four hotels in Bucharest. The rooms are limited to availability so please make sure you book your hotels in advance. D. Summit Details 1.1 Registration for the Summit Please be sure to register online for the summit here. Please note that you can attend the Product Development Workshop on Monday 27 June on invitation only. If you have questions about invitations or the workshop, please contact Bianca Isaincu at Bianca@childfinance.org or +31 615482411. 1.2 Transportation during the Summit CYFI will only provide transportation from the Hotel Intercontinental to the venue location in the mornings and after the sessions. All other recommended hotels are walking distance from the conference venue. However, transportation from the conference venue to the dinner venue on 28 June will be provided. 1.3 Conference Venue Both the Product Development Workshop and the Summit itself will be held at the same venue: Institutul Bancar Roman: Aleea Negru Voda 3 București 030774 Romania 1.4 Meals 27 June: lunch will be provided for the participants of the Product Development Workshop only. Please find dinner details below. 28 and 29 June: lunches will be provided for all participants. 1.5 Dinners If you intend to take part in the dinner on 27 June please be sure to confirm your attendance via the online registration, or send a confirmation email to Bianca Isaincu at Bianca@childfinance.org. The dinner on 28 June will be hosted by the Authority for Financial Supervision of Romania and will be held at the Hilton Hotel (located in Strada Episcopiei 1-3,București 010292). You can find the location also in the Annex 5. Please note that transportation will be arranged between the conference venue and the dinner venue. Busses will leave from the conference venue at 19:00 while the dinner will begin at 19:30. We encourage participants to wear traditional clothing. Participants could also chose to join a walking tour or Bucharest organized from 18:00. There will be 3 groups organized, leaving from each of the recommended hotels below. Please remember to register at the registration desk on your arrival if you would wish to do so. 1.6 Exposition desks Throughout the Summit, partner organizations will have the opportunity to display educational materials, publications, games and similar items on exposition desks. If you would like to reserve and exposition space, please contact Bianca Isaincu Bianca@childfinance.org. 1.7 Sightseeing Bucharest is the capital and the center of Romanian media, culture, and art. Its architecture is a mix of neo-classical, interbellum, communist-era and modern. Between the two World Wars, the city's elegant architecture and the sophistication of its elite earned Bucharest the nickname of "Little Paris" (Micul Paris). Although many buildings and districts in the historic city center were heavily damaged or destroyed by war, earthquakes, and Nicolae Ceaușescu's program of systematization, many survived. Main Attractions: Palace of the Parliament The Palace of Parliament it is the second largest administrative building in the world. In terms of weight, the Palace of the Parliament is the heaviest building in the world. A colossal parliament building known for its ornate interior, it houses the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, three museums and an international conference center. In order to visit the Palace, you must make a reservation at least 48 hours before the day of your visit. For a reservation, please contact 0040213113611. You can learn more about the tours and their prices on this website. The National Village Museum Dimitrie Gusti The Village Museum is an open-air ethnographic museum located in Herastrau Park. The museum displays traditional Romanian village life, including 272 authentic peasant farms and houses from all over Romania. You can find more about the museum and how to get there on this website. Optional Free Tour of Bucharest Bucharest Greeters is a non-profit initiative that provides a unique experience discovering the authentic and unknown parts of Bucharest. Personalized tours include stops for seeing urban and national culture, architecture, parks, shopping centers, less well-known neighborhoods, cuisine and traditions of Romanians.
