Elephants are among the most intelligent of the creatures with whom we share the planet, with complex consciousnesses that are capable of strong emotions. Across Africa they have inspired respect from the people that share the landscape with them, giving them a strong cultural significance. As icons of the continent elephants are tourism magnets, attracting funding that helps protect wilderness areas. They are also keystone species, playing an important role in maintaining the biodiversity of the ecosystems in which they live. We are at a critical stage of the elephant crisis in Africa. The world s largest mammal is in imminent danger as a species. Some estimates suggest that 100 elephant a day are being killed across Africa. If this continues, the African elephant will be extinct within 15 years. This might be the last chance to see elephants in the wild. Protecting rhino and elephant requires large numbers of highly trained and dedicated rangers to protect wildlife against this onslaught. To do this the equipment, training and resources provided to them is paramount, not only to their own safety and their ability to protect wildlife, but also towards the self-worth and loyalty they feel towards the difficult task they are faced with. DAY 1 Start your journey in Nairobi where you will visit the David Sheldrick elephant orphanage and have the chance to adopt an elephant, then game drive through Nairobi National Park on your way to Ololo lodge where you will overnight with sweeping views. NIGHT AT OLOLO LODGE
DAY 2 3 4 5 6 Fly from Nairobi to Mara North airstrip where you will arrive at our Serian camp situated in the Mara North Conservancy. Mara North Conservancy has a conservation area of 30,000 Ha which accommodates the twelve member camps in a sustainable way that benefits the environment, the wildlife, and the community. The Mara North Conservancy has one of the lowest tourist and vehicle densities in the ecosystem due to managed volume and strict land-use plans. Serian is the first of Alex s camps, and it is set along the banks of the Mara River, bursting with laughing pods of languorous hippos. Mara is the masai word for dotted and indeed thus rich zone is littered with wildlife wherever you look - famed for it s sheer density of game, this is the perfect location to kick off your safari. Explore in one of our vehicles, or take a walk on the wild side and head out on foot - both will bring different levels and layers to your experience.and top it off with a nocturnal adventure: take a bush dinner and red-filter spotlights and discover what the wilderness has to offer by way of nightlife. DAY 7 8 9 10 Head South to Tanzania, where you will stay in the Lamai wedge an extension of the greater Mara eco system, home to many elephants. The Lamai wedge is a golden triangle defined by the Kenyan border on top and the Mara River below, and remarkable for the beauty of the landscape as well as for fantastic sightings of predators and black rhino. Our camp is poised for action juts above one of the major wildebeest crossing points, promising action and drama. Away from the river, absorb the mesmerizing savannah, and spend quality time seeking out and hanging with animals. NIGHTS AT SERIAN S SERENGETI LAMAI
DAY 11 Wend your way to the Lamai airstrip and enjoy a leisurely game drive en route, before boarding the plane and hopefully catching a few more crossings from the sky!
