CORPORATE SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL Conservation n Credibility n Community EXTINCTIONN! IS NOT AN OPTIO

BACKGROUND Our vision is to play a key role in the Tasmanian devil insurance breeding program to ensure the survival and sustainability of the species in the wild Devil Ark is a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity, dedicated to protect the iconic and endangered Tasmanian devil at risk of extinction due to the transmissible cancer, Devil Facial Tumour Disease (DFTD). Established in 2011, Devil Ark plays a significant role in ensuring the survival of this threatened, native species by creating an insurance population through a captive management strategy in collaboration with our partners, the Save the Tasmanian Devil Program (STDP) funded by the Federal and Tasmanian Governments and the Zoos and Aquarium Association (ZAA), the Australasian regional zoo body. What is Devil Facial Tumour Disease? DFTD was first detected in 1996 and is transmitted between individuals while feeding, fighting and mating. Due to low genetic diversity, the susceptibility to the disease across the wild population has increased, with less than 10% of the population left in the wild. Once infected, signs of the disease appear in the mouth within a few months, which quickly develop into large tumours that distort the face and neck. The devils usually die within six months from starvation and dehydration. With no vaccine or cure for DFTD, Devil Ark s objective is to establish an insurance population of healthy, genetically diverse, Tasmanian devils to be released back into the wild and safeguard against possible species extinction. High in the hills of the Barrington Tops, NSW, Devil Ark created a natural breeding facility providing the perfect setting for the devils, replicating the Tasmanian climate at an altitude of 1,350 metres. Devil Ark is comprised of 13 free-range, natural, wild enclosures, at least 2 hectares each, containing multiple devils and dens. In such an environment, the devils retain their natural, wild behavior by minimising the devil s exposure to humans and condition them to be released back into the wild. In addition to playing a significant role in this species survival program, we are safeguarding the future of the Tasmanian Devil and the ecological functionality of Tasmania s habitat, for generations to come. 2

BACKGROUND Our Achievements Devil Ark has become a globally recognised conservation project and a model for its cost efficiencies and captive management strategies. Over the past four years, we have achieved a lot and made a big difference in the future of Tasmanian devils. In 2012, Devil Ark was presented the Innovation Award from ZAA for its pioneering work in saving a species. In 2013, Devil Ark s founder, John Weigel was a finalist for the Prime Minister s Environmentalist of the Year Award. n Commenced Devil Ark with only founder devils in 2011 n Over 135 healthy, genetically diverse joeys born over four breeding seasons n We currently have over 150 devils roaming in 13 free-range enclosures at our facility Devil Ark needs your help To achieve this conservation success story it costs over $300,000 a year to operate. We receive limited government funding and rely on community and corporate support. Our vital insurance breeding program continues to have a positive impact to avoid extinction of the Tasmanian devil. Extinction is not an option! 3

WHY SPONSOR DEVIL ARK? Devil Ark s corporate sponsorship programme is a new initiative and we are seeking partners to become corporate sponsors of our Devils in the Wild project. We invite you to become a corporate sponsor and be part of a unique, global conservation project. Your financial support will cover our continuing operational costs such as resourcing, project management, animal husbandry and welfare, transportation and costs associated with getting the devils back to the wild. Devil Ark provides the platform to communicate your organisation s sustainability and environmental commitments and bring your brand values to life. Aligning your business with a leading Australian conservation project with global recognition will build a stronger relationship with the community. An association with Devil Ark will create various opportunities for your business. With our upcoming release of 30 devils back to the wild in Tasmania in November 2015, we will have extensive media coverage, achieving brand exposure. Our collaborative partner, the Australian Reptile Park, also has extensive media and community reach including print, radio, online and television. To date, Devil Ark has received extensive media coverage across Australia especially on the various morning shows including Today (Channel 9) and Sunrise (Channel 7). Various programs also regularly feature Devil Ark and its important conservation work including Bondi Vet, with Dr Chris Brown a regular visitor to the Ark and the Australian Reptile Park, and The Wild Life of Tim Faulkner, with a wide audience reach of over 180 million viewers distributed through PBS America, Discovery and National Geographic. Tim Faulkner is also the General Manager of Devil Ark and the Australian Reptile Park. By partnering with Devil Ark, your company will; n Build positive connections, attitudes and values by linking your business with innovative conservation outcomes n Reinforce the image of your brand making a difference supporting an innovative Australian Conservation project of global recognition, to secure the existence of the iconic Tasmanian Devil n It can also provide your marketing department with a new story to tell by playing a direct role in the preservation of one of Australia s most iconic animals, the endangered Tasmanian Devil n Use Devil Ark/Australian Reptile Park as a showcase to demonstrate your products/services
