Welcome to Northern New Jersey Boy Scout Camp Yaw Paw Camp Yaw Paw, 100 Bear Swamp Rd, Mahwah, NJ 07430 This guide will help you get started on your unit s weekend trip, with important information including fees and camp rental policies. Reservations are not confirmed unless paid in full. You may not clear an outstanding balance at camp. All cancellations less than 30 days before your rental will receive a 50% refund. All cancellations made less than 14 days before your rental will not receive any refund. Adult leadership (21 years or older) is required for each unit. A minimum of two (2) adults must accompany each group; one may be 18 or older. If the group splits up while at camp, additional adults of the appropriate age required so that each group is accompanied by two (2) adults. All Injuries, accidents and incidents are to be reported to the Ranger/Campmaster. It is the Unit Leader's responsibility to care for personal injuries. The possession or use of DRUGS AND ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ON CAMP PROPERTY IS PROHIBITED Firearms, archery equipment, air rifles and all fireworks are prohibited. NO pets are allowed in camp, except certified Service Dogs. No chainsaws, snowmobiles, dirt bikes, ATV's or sledding. Check in on Friday is from 7:00 PM 10:00 PM, Saturday is from 8:00 am 11 am and check out on Sunday is from 8 AM 11 am. All groups must be off the property by 2 PM. How to Check In: Check in on Friday is between 7:00 PM and 10:00 PM or Saturday 8:00am until 11:00am. If other arrangements need to be made please let us know. Upon arrival to Camp Yaw Paw, please check in at the Ranger s House; the Camp Ranger will be available for your check-in. You will need to provide a complete roster with names and contact numbers. Any fees for damages must be reconciled after inspection and before departure. How to Check out: Check out with the ranger before you depart from camp. All groups must depart from camp by 2:00 PM on Sunday. Please contact the Ranger/Camp Master when your unit is ready to depart. Facilities: Upon making your reservation you chose a specific site, if there is a need for different accommodations and they are available please reach out to the ranger and they can try to make any adjustments. (applicable fees will apply) Due to Local Health Code Regulations, the Dining Hall is not to be used as a sleeping quarter. Buildings and other unit s sites are off limits. Parking: No vehicles are allowed pass the main parking lot. Water: All water is located at the main hand pump located near the Camp Master cabin. Remember to bring your own water containers. Firewood and Fires: Due to the local infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer in other areas of our state there will be NO OUTSIDE WOOD allowed. There is an abundance of wood throughout the camp. Please do not cut or mutilate trees or shrubs. Liquid fuels may be used only by ADULTS. LP gas is preferred. Only one fire per patrol using existing fire rings. Trash: All trash must be removed from your camp area and carried out with you. Fishing: The pond is a catch and release pond. There is NO FISHING on the beach or anywhere within the fenced/roped waterfront area. Fishing is allowed anywhere else around the lake. Please clean up after yourself. No going on the ice when the lake is frozen.
We follow all New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife rules and regulations related to fishing. Play Fields: The playfield is available for your enjoyment and activities. These facilities are included with your rental, but we do ask that you coordinate with other units in camp to ensure everyone has availability to use them. Remember to bring your own equipment. Archery and BB Range: Ranges are open for use in September, October, April, and May. All reservations must be made at least 3 weeks prior to your rental. Space is limited and not guaranteed without a paid reservation. All reservations can be made through double knot. Service projects: If your unit is interested in helping around camp please coordinate with the Camp Master or Camp Ranger. Camp Master Corps: o The Camp Master Corps are a group of volunteers that complete many of the improvements that are done around camp. The Camp Master also volunteers one or two weekends a year to help facilitate check-in/check-out procedures and to help units during their stay. Camp Yaw Paw Directions From 287 North (Oakland Area) Route 287 North to Exit 58 (Oakland / Rte 202). Turn left at W. Oakland Ave. Slight left at Ramapo Valley Rd / US 202 N. Travel on Rte 202 N For approximately 3.3 miles. Turn left at Bear Swap Road. Cross bridge and continue straight to gate. From Paramus Area Take Route 4 West to Rout 208 North to route 287 South to Exit 58. At the light at the end of the exit ramp, turn right on to Route 202 North (Ramapo Valley Rd). Go approximately 3 miles on route 202. Just beyond the 2nd "Camel Retreat" sign on your right, you will see "One Lane Bridge" sign. Turn left on to Bear Swamp Rd. Cross bridge and continue straight to gate. From Route 17 (Mahwah Area) Take Route 17 to Route 202 South approximately 3 miles to Bear Swamp Road (the first right turn after Sun Valley Farms on your right). Look for the "One Lane Bridge" sign and turn right on to Bear Swamp Road. Cross the bridge and continue straight to gate. Once you are at the gate Open the gate (the ranger will call you the week of your rental with the combination), then CLOSE and LOCK it behind you. Continue on camp road about 2 miles to Camp Yaw Paw sign. Turn left at the sign, cross over the bridge and continue about 1/2 mile to the parking area.
