the making of an adventure A remarkable concept deserves a remarkable venue. The creation of a Tasmanian theme-park experience, coupled with the desire to showcase our island s finest food and wine, required a distinctly Tasmanian home the Penny Royal. Originally built with convict bricks dating back to the 1820 s, the Penny Royal has an extensive history. In the late 1970 s and early 1980 s the Penny Royal was a popular tourist attraction, but by the early 2000 s interest had waned, the doors closed, and for almost a decade the site languished. In 2014 Josef Chromy OAM and the JAC Group developed the derelict Penny Royal into a thriving food, wine and adventure precinct to benefit Launceston s tourism industry. The two-year long redevelopment opened its doors in March 2016 and will continue to welcome locals and tourists alike for many years to come. our venues & facilities Just like our location, our venue is very unique. Our two-storey venue has multiple spaces which can cater for an intimate event of 25 guests right through to 350 guests. Each space presents stunning views of the complex and an abundance of natural light. our venue features : World class rear projection water screen for short films or stills which gives you perfect opportunity to showcase company logos, personal messages and much more. Fort stage entertainment area. Up to date AV/sound system and equipment available. All spaces, including whole venue, can be made exclusive to you and your guests at an additional charge. Room hire can provide you with exclusivity to the area that you request with access to your own private staff. Our venue is divided into two different sections. The lower level restaurant/boardwalk and the upper level wine bar and deck. The lower level restaurant is an open, free flowing indoor space with adjoining boardwalk and undercover terrace which can be utilised as a dance floor. This area can be divided in half if less space is required. The spacious restaurant area. Please note that there is a room hire fee per section or for the whole venue with FULL exclusivity. The Penny Royal is a truly unique event venue that allows you to incorporate thrilling Tasmanian adventures into your event, guaranteeing it s an experience to be remembered. Your guests will travel back in time aboard a barge on the Mathew Brady Dark Ride to Van Diemen s Land in 1825. They will be immersed in the daring escapades of notorious bushranger Matthew Brady, escape the gunfire and live to tell the tale! For an exhilarating team-building exercise, they can conquer the thrilling cliff walk across a dozen rope bridges suspended above the Penny Royal, or take the challenge of the indoor and outdoor rock climbing walls. If they dare, our zip lines and cliff jump give the ultimate adrenaline rush! They can launch themselves off the 20 metre cliff jump and then fly 100 metres across the grounds. Other experiences available include exploring Sarah Island and meeting the ghosts of convicts past.
