Population Growth for 2017 and 2022 Based on the 2010 Population Census, Bonita Springs has a population of 43,914 residents According to Bureau of Economic and Business Research, Bonita Springs grew on average 2.96% annually from 2000-2010. In 2011, BEBR is estimating an approx. increase for Bonita Springs of 0.89% annually. Given these percentages we can estimate a population growth range for the next 5 years a total of 46,259 next io years a total of 48,213 60,528 52,314 residents. For the residents Based on these population growth numbers for the year 2017 and 2022, The City of Bonita Springs has more than adequate number of Parks and developed Park land My recommendation is to enhance the current parks we have to enhance the quality of life for all our residents 3

Community Park Largest of our Parks at 34.93 acres with 4.14 additional acres with the Community Pool This park includes the Recreation Center, Old Recreation Center Building (Teen Center), Skate Park, Disc Golf Course, Pavilion, Tennis Courts, Baseball/Softball Fields and Community Pool This park has recently added Solar Panels to off set the cost of electricity for the Recreation Center with grant from the Federal government This is classified as a Community Park 6

Bonita Springs Recreation Center The Recreation Center includes a full size basketball gymnasium, Men and Women s locker rooms, Fitness room and lobby area The Recreation Center currently has 1,400 members with 8o% of those members being over the age of 55 Of the 1,400 members 20% are coming from gated communities within Bonita Springs and 13% of those coming from Estero, Naples and Fort Myers The 1,400 members do not include our Afterschool program, Summer Camp, Pay classes or special events A membership at the Recreation Center also includes our Community Pool as well as a select few classes such as Stretch and Tone aerobics, Line Dancing, Table Tennis, Mah Jong, Pickleball, and Senior Pick Up Basketball 7

Old Recreation Center Building This facility is located next to the Recreation Center and is connected by a covered walkway This building houses our Afterschool and Summer Camp Programs primarily It is also the location of some of our classes such as Mah long, Line Dancing, Yoga, Modelers Guild Tai Chi and our Ship It is also the host of our Seniors of Bonita Club meetings and luncheons This building has a Computer Lab with 10 PC computers for community computer classes 11

B3 Skate Park The B3 Skate Park has 250 members of both children and adults and daily passes are also available Our Afterschool and Summer Camp programs use this Park as well A Skate Shop of resale items is located in the lobby of the Recreation Center for items such as helmets, protective pads, skate boards, wheels, grip tape and more - 12

Disc Golf Course The i8 hole course wraps around our 7 acre lake as well as it flow around the entire Community Park It provides both amateur and pro tees pads for the beginner and more advanced player It is free to play and open to the public There is a Pro Shop in the Recreation Center lobby to purchase a variety of discs 13

Community Park Pavilion The Community Park Pavilion is located at the north end of the Park next to the Baseball/Softball complex 1t is equipped for both Basketball and Futsol Soccer as well as lighting for night play 14

Community Park Tennis Courts The Community Park Tennis Courts are 2 full sized concrete outdoor courts We offer both private and group lessons 1t is the only public outdoor courts in Bonita Springs They are utilized as the home courts for the Bonita Middle School Tennis Team A variety of leagues utilize the courts during season as well 5

Community Park Baseball/Softball Complex The Community Park Baseball/Softball Complex is home to the Bonita Springs Little League. It has 2 full size baseball fields, and 1 1 little league field softball field A Concession stand with restrooms, meeting room and food serve area are located centrally to all fields These fields are rented out on Sundays to outside organizations i6

-- Bonita Springs Community Pool V The Bonita Springs Community Pool is a Competitive length pooi It has 8 lap lanes available to patrons with 4 lanes open for lap swimming and 4 lanes for open swim We offer a variety of swim classes which are included in the membership such as water aerobics and arthritis foundation aquacize. 17

Bonita Nature Place Bonita Nature Place is a 28.83 acre Nature Facility located off of Kent Road. The property originally was 9.77 acres with the addition of i8.6i acres acquired in 2010. The property includes: The Main building- for meetings, seminars, public workshops and office space A bee house A butterfly garden Gopher Tortoise preserve A bat house Enclosed lanai with native plants and butterfly sanctuary Several Nature Trails This property is open to the public free of charge with many different groups utilizing this facility such as the girl scouts, boy scouts, Summer Camps and local community clubs 20

Recommendations for Improvements Add on to the trail system to connect to the Bonita Trail Additional signage to identify the different trees and plants around the property Gopher tortoise platform Gopher tortoise burrows for easier viewing of the Increase volunteers to help out with the upkeep of the property Partner with local organizations expansion of facility for promotion and 21

Bonita Springs River Park Bonita Springs River Park is a 17.56 acre Park located on the Imperial River next to US This Park features a floating canoe/kayak dock to launch 41 canoes/kayaks into the River and a floating boat dock most patrons use for fishing in the River There are 2 Pergola type structures with picnic tables for picnics or gatherings in the park A shell path encircles the pond in the middle of the park for parking access or just for walking Boardwalks are build around the park for access to the River and floating docks and to look at the Nature around the park A Bald Eagles Nest is nestled in the Park at the far southwest corner for many bird watches to view 23

Recommendations for Improvements Applied for a TDC grant fund to build Phase II of the River Park to include an additional 2400 sq. ft of boardwalk and 1250 sq ft of pedestrian shell walking paths Ultimately, the Park will include boardwalks from this park, under US 41, to Connect to the County Boat Ramp Add amenities such as Restroom facility, playground, additional parking areas, additional pedestrian walking/jogging paths 25

Riverside Park Riverside Park is located in the heart of downtown Bonita with 6.21 acres Riverside Park is home to the Historic Liles Hotel, Artist Cottages, Butterfly garden and Bandshell Most City Special Events are held at this Park Veterans Brick walkway and a new addition will be the Veterans Memorial coming this summer 27

Recommendations for Future Improvements Island Park was funded by the FCT in 2003 and certain amenities have been required by this grant The required improvements by the FCT grant: 1. Picnic type structure 2. Free standing fitness stations 3. Interpretive signs/kiosk 4. Bike racks 5. Restoration of the shoreline with the addition of mangroves 6. Restoration of oak hammock 7. Addition of native plants and trees 8. Addition of a Fishing Pier 35

Community Hall A 1.63 acre Park site with a Multipurpose building used for meetings, seminars and classes The Park site is the current home of the Café of Life which uses the outdoor section of the Park to feed the needy daily for lunch The Park is also the site of the old Banyan Tree as well as the Lee County Sheriff s Substation 37

Windsor Preserve A 11.02 acre passive Neighborhood park located off of Bonita Beach Rd just before you reach Hickory Blvd The Park has very minimal amenities with a few boardwalks and benches Recommendations for Future Improvements During a public workshop for this Park, the neighborhood residents wanted to keep developments minimal with open green space. No future improvements are recommended at this time 42

Carpenter Lane A 2.08 acre passive Neighborhood Park located off of Carpenter Lane This Park has few amenities with boardwalks and shell paths for Nature viewing Recommendation for Future Improvements Addition of a Canoe/Kayak launch to connect to the Blueway Kayak Trail system 44

Bonita Soccer Complex A 7.52 acre park located off of E. Terry St. on Kent Rd. This Park has 3 full size soccer fields, concession stand with meeting room and restrooms and a tot lot playground The Soccer Complex is utilized by 2 Youth Soccer leagues, the Wildcats and the Bonita Youth Soccer League and i Adult Soccer league, Casa Mexico This facility is used io months out of the year with 8 weeks off during the summer months for maintenance % 46

Beach Parks The.35 acre Beach Park North and the.73 acres of Bay Park North make up the City of Bonita Springs Beach Parks These Parks offer beach access to Bonita Beach as well as parking for our residents The Bay Park North also offers a boat launch site Recommendations for Future Improvements Seal and repair the parking lots Also work with Lee County for Bonita Springs to gain control over all of Bonita Beach 51

- Parks with No Amenities The Parks of Forest Park, Imperial Parkway Park and Forest Park are small plots of land that are considered Parks with no amenities or uses These parks are currently only parks the City staff mows These parks are not usable as park space with amenities due to the location as a Right of Way, too small to put anything on it or the neighborhoods do not wish to have anything on them No recommendations for these Parks at this time 54

Comprehensive Plan Requirements Based on the City of Bonita Springs Comprehensive Plan the City has adopted a level of service for regional parks as of 6 acres of developed park land per i,ooo residents and seasonal population. Regional Parks are normally 20 acres of park land for i,ooo residents and must be a minimum of 250 acres. It also states in the Comp plan the city will work with Lovers Key to accomplish this goal The City s Park Master Plan according to the Comp Plan should contain a level of service for community parks at.8 acres of developed park land for i,ooo residents. This goal is met with our own City Park lands As an overall, our City of Bonita Springs Comprehensive Plan is lacking in requirements for developed Park lands such as we do not have requirements for # of Soccer fields per i,ooo residents, # of playgrounds for i,ooo residents, etc. I recommend we look in increasing the specificity of the requirements of our developed Park lands into our Comprehensive Plan 55

Café of Life Park The Property is currently owned by Lee County and is located in the southwest corner of the Leitner Creek Manor subdivision This is a proposal of the Café of Life to add a City park to be named the Leitner Creek Manor Neighborhood Park This proposal is for the Café of Life to build a facility with meeting rooms, storage space and a food distribution area for Café of Life to use as well as external tables, playground, restrooms, parking areas and outdoor sports area The City would ask the County to transfer the land to the City and the Café of Life will be responsible to build the facilities and provide for maintenance obligations and the city would give the Café of Life a long term usage agreement with the City maintaining ownership of the park 57
