Retailing in India is one of the pillars of its economy and accounts for 14-15% of its GDP. The Indian retail market is expected to touch US $ 1.3 trillion by 2020 from its existing level of around US$ 500 billion. Larger format convenience stores and supermarkets accounts for about 4% of the industry and these are present only in large urban centers. After the approval of the FDI in 2012, major international brands ( IKEA, TESCO,WALMART, etc.) are entering the Indian market with 100% ownership. India s retail and logistics industry employs about 40 million Indian (3.3 % of Indian population). GIAN P MATHUR & ASSOCIATES

Delhi s Population on World Map How are we Planning to Accommodate?! The large scale Land Acquisition,Development and Disposal Policy of Delhi approved in 1961 is still in operation. However, land acquisition and planned development has not kept pace with the increasing demands of urbanisation during the last five decades. Moreover, the process of acquisition is increasingly challenged by land owners due to low compensation as compared to the market value.therefore, the new land policy is based on the concept of Land Pooling wherein the land parcels owned by individuals or group of owners are legally consolidated by transfer of ownership rights to the designated Land Pooling Agency, which later transfers the ownership of the part of land back to the land owners for undertaking of development for such areas. The policy is applicable in the proposed urbanisable areas of the Urban Extensions for which Zonal Plans have been approved. Land Pooling Policy Chapter 19.0 MPD 2021 GIAN P MATHUR & ASSOCIATES

As the contemporary retail sector in India is reflected in sprawling shopping centers, multiplex- malls and huge complexes offer shopping, entertainment and food all under one roof, the concept of shopping has altered in terms of format and consumer buying behavior, ushering in a revolution in shopping in India. This has also contributed to large-scale investments in the real estate sector with major national and global players investing in developing the infrastructure and construction of the retailing business. The trends that are driving the growth of the retail sector in India are: Low share of organized retailing Falling real estate prices Increase in disposable income and customer aspiration Increase in expenditure for luxury items Retail Space Distribution in Delhi, NCR Delhi Noida Greater Noida Faridabad Ghaziabad Gurgaon SOURCE: SOURCE: http://www.fibre2fashion.com/industry-article/free-retail-industry-article/indian- http://news.indianpropertyreview.com/2011/01/slowdown retail-industry-its-growth-challenges-and-opportunities/indian-retail-industry-its- growth-challenges-and-opportunities3.asp -hit-indian-retail-sector-can-witness-growth-in-2011-fitch/
