A.2 Read the following passage carefully. The Twister Michelle slumped in her seat as the bus pulled into the amusement park. She had been on roller coasters before, but she didn t like them. She was terrified of the slow climb to the top at the start of the ride. But her friends were excited to ride the Twister, so she was going to have to find some way to get through it. Let s get in line for the Twister, Ashley said as soon as the bus stopped. Tina, Beth, and Shauna nodded excitedly. Michelle gulped. Ashley dropped back and grabbed Michelle s arm to speak to her. Ashley told Michelle that she was also afraid of riding the Twister, as she heard that the first drop is awful, and her sister threw up after all the twists and loops. Michelle suggested that they could go on another ride. Ashley quickly refused as she felt that being scared is what makes it fun. Would you want to go on a baby ride that goes really slow and just turns in a big circle? Ashley asked. No. That s boring. Michelle replied. Exactly. It s boring because it s not scary. Maybe Ashley was right, thought Michelle to herself. Ashley squeezed Michelle s arm and suggested they should sit up front as it was the scariest seat. Mrs. Grayson asked Michelle if she was sure about sitting in the front during the ride. San Ġorġ Preca College, HY Exams 2018, English Year 5 Page 3 of 12
