MISHAWAKA SOUTH BEND AND BEYOND Mishawaka/South Bend is uniquely situated between Chicago, Indianapolis, Grand Rapids, and Detroit. Prominent companies contributing to the local economy include University of Notre Dame, Beacon Health Systems, St. Joseph Health System, A.M. General (maker of military vehicles), Indiana University-South Bend, and Honeywell. The mall is located three miles from the University of Notre Dame, which has an enrollment of 12,000; 6,000 employees; and an economic impact of $1.3B annually. Direct local spending by students and visitors is $370M. Holy Cross College and Saint Mary s College are also located in this market. South Bend receives an influx of wealthy Notre Dame alumni each Saturday during the college football season, filling their 81,000-seat stadium.
