TECHPORT AUSTRALIA - AUSTRALIA S PREMIER NAVAL INDUSTRY HUB TECHPORT AUSTRALIA

TECHPORT AUSTRALIA - AUSTRALIA S PREMIER NAVAL INDUSTRY HUB TECHPORT AUSTRALIA Techport Australia is the nation s premier naval industry hub. Techport Australia is the centre of naval shipbuilding in Australia, home to two major, long-term defence projects sustainment of the Collins class submarine fleet and construction of the Air Warfare Destroyers. These two highly complex projects form the foundation of South Australia s naval shipbuilding capability, and have driven the development of a strong local naval shipbuilding, sustainment and systems industry base. Australian work on the Future Submarine program will centre at Techport Australia, reinforcing its position as the nation s pre-eminent naval shipbuilding hub. Common User Facility shiplift and wharf

TECHPORT AUSTRALIA - AUSTRALIA S PREMIER NAVAL INDUSTRY HUB MAJOR PROJECTS Techport Australia is home to Australia s largest and most complex naval projects. Air Warfare Destroyers The $8.5 billion Air Warfare Destroyer project is being delivered at Techport Australia by the AWD Alliance, made up of Defence Materiel Organisation, ASC and Raytheon Australia. The most complex ship construction project ever undertaken in Australia, it will provide the Royal Australian Navy with three of the world s most capable multi-mission ships. In May 2015, the first destroyer Hobart was launched at a rate of 75 per cent complete, marking a big step forward towards the delivery of all three destroyers. The second destroyer, Brisbane, has taken the place of Hobart on the hardstand to undergo final block consolidation, and the keel for the third destroyer, Sydney, will be laid late 2015. More than 2000 people work on the project in South Australia driving high end manufacturing and systems integration skills for the future. Collins Class Submarines ASC built and now maintain the Royal Australian Navy s current fleet of six Collins class submarines from its Techport Australia facility. A team of around 1000 work on the maintenance and enhancement of the fleet including world-class designers and engineers. This will continue until the end of the fleet s operational life, potentially out to 2038. Future Submarines The Future Submarine Program is the largest Defence procurement in the nation s history, a $50+ billion investment in Australia s security. A major national undertaking of a size, scale, complexity and duration never before experienced within Australia s defence sector, it will define the future of advanced manufacturing in Australia. Regardless of the design ultimately selected, significant work will be undertaken in Australia during the build phase, including combat system integration, design assurance and land based testing. This will create at least 500 new high-skill jobs in Australia, the majority of which will be based in South Australia. Key project infrastructure may also be based in South Australia, including the Future Submarine Systems Centre and the Submarine Land Based Test Site. A Defence + Industry Integrated Project Team is already on the ground working on the Future Submarine project drawing in expertise from around the world. TECHPORT AUSTRALIA - AUSTRALIA S PREMIER NAVAL INDUSTRY HUB COMMON USER FACILITY Techport Australia features world-class common user shipbuilding facilities. The Common User Facility is the centrepiece of Techport Australia. A national strategic asset owned and operated by the Government of South Australia, it has proven capacity to support multiple projects concurrently with flexible access and usage arrangements. The eight hectare facility plays a key role in the consolidation of the state-of-the-art Air Warfare Destroyers. It will also support the delivery of future naval projects such as assembly of Australia s next generation of submarines and frigates. The facility is available for commercial use where capacity permits, ideally suited for vessel repairs and maintenance or large modular construction projects. With long term growth in mind, the Common User Facility has recently been expanded to provide maximum flexibility to support future naval and commercial programs. TECHPORT AUSTRALIA - AUSTRALIA S PREMIER NAVAL INDUSTRY HUB FEATURES The Common User Facility consists of three key areas: Rail corridor Wharf The fully serviced wharf is 213 metres long and 25 metres wide. It can support heavy load equipment and is capable of servicing a vessel through final outfitting, test and activation, harbour and sea trials, maintenance and repair activities. Veitch Road Shiplift The world-class Syncrolift raises and lowers large naval and commercial vessels in and out of the water for dry-docking ashore. The shiplift is the largest in the southern hemisphere, at 156 metres long, 34 metres wide and with a maximum net lifting capacity of 13,500 tonnes. Runway and dry berth The runway - with embedded and separate dry berth - can support the consolidation of two AWDs concurrently. The runway and dry berth are supported by a rail-based transfer system to move vessels both around the site and onto the shiplift, and fully serviced via an underground utilities service duct. This duct is over 700 metres long and contains high voltage electricity, potable water, seawater, fire services, communications and compressed air.
