A word from our Director: Hello Dixie Buick Members: The last thirty days have been very enjoyable for driving our classic Buicks! Perfect day at the BOPC Show. There were 150 beautiful cars on the field. Several of our Dixie Buicks won awards which will be addressed elsewhere in this newsletter. BDE Tour at Callaway Gardens. The military museum at Fort Benning in Columbus GA was so good, I'm taking my son back. Same for the Tuskegee Air (Red Tails) Museum. You walk out of there with a tear in your eye. The butterfly building at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, the Hill & Dale Gardens in LaGrange, Roosevelt's Little White House in Warm Springs, and many more. Come check out the BDE. There will be a tour in Nashville, TN next year. Our monthly meeting at Mazzy's Grill in Norcross. Check out the MOAB (Mother of all Burgers) on the menu. And these are only Buick events. I'm sure some of you attended other shows and cruise-ins. Mark your calendars with upcoming events announced in this newsletter. Always a fun time driving our beautiful Buicks. JD Editorial Comments: CORRECTION: I would like to take this opportunity to publicly apologize to Tom LYNDE for misspelling his name in the May DVC. I did this not once, but twice! Tom was very gracious when he politely pointed out my error(s), and I promise to be more careful! Spring has come and gone and now it s already summer here in Hotlanta. It s past time to get those Buicks all nice and shiny and now it s time to get them out and drive them. Buicks are meant to be driven! Jean and I had our Reatta at the BOP&C and we saw several Dixie Chapter Members there. There is a full report in this DVC by Guest Reporter Danny Finkelstein. We also went to the Buick Driving Enthusiasts Spring Tour at Callaway Gardens and drove our 1934 Club Sedan Resto-Rod. We had a great time but would have liked to see more Dixie Chapter Members there. There is a full report in this DVC by Guest Reporter Jack Horvath. Happy Father s Day to all of you Fathers and Grandfathers! I hope that you all enjoy your day. Love & Peace, Jerry DIXIE VALVE CHATTER Official Publication of the Dixie Chapter of the Buick Club of America Visit us on the Web at www.buickclub.org/dixie June 2016

Cars of the Month: Every month we will include at least a picture or two of member s cars, usually as seen at recent meetings, tours or events. Try to be an active member, be sure to drive your pride and joy, and then look for your picture in the next issue of the Dixie Valve Chatter! From the Sunshine Committee : Nothing to report this month, so as they say: no news is good news! If you know of a member who is ill, injured, recovering, or just in need of a special thought and bit of hope sent their way, please let Jean Richstein know about them as soon as possible. She is making certain that cards and well wishes are sent from the Dixie Chapter BCA. To enable Jean to share the Club s thoughts and concerns in a timely manner, please be sure to keep her well informed. grayfoxconsulting@gmail.com It happened in May On May 22 nd 14 Dixie Chapter members gathered at Mazzy s Sports Bar & Grill in Norcross. We enjoyed having lunch together, and then had our business meeting. One of the topics discussed was the possibility of hosting a BCA National in either 2019 or 2020. The discussion was tabled and will be picked up again at future meetings. Expect to hear more in the near future. Car Quiz: Do you recognize this 1950 s car? What make, model and year? Extra Credit if you can identify the famous steam locomotive that was built in May 1950. Hint: This car is NOT a Buick, but it s the only old car that I could find pictured with the famous locomotive. The answer is on page 7.

Annual Peach Blossom BOP&C, by Guest Reporter Danny Finkelstein: The 35 th Annual Peach Blossom BOP&C was held On April 30 th and began with a meet-and-greet at the Cherokee Cattle Company in Marietta hosted on Friday night by our friends at the Southeastern GTO Association (SEGTOA). This turned out to be a fun opportunity both for out of towners and locals to get together for cars and camaraderie prior to the big day. This year s show was held at Piedmont Church in Marietta. For those who have never been there, the church hosts a yearlong 1 st Saturday of the month morning car cruise-in. They routinely draw dozens of cars that park in front of the church along Piedmont Rd. that will come and go over the course of the 3-hour cruise-in. The BOPC show field was in the rear parking lot which can provide parking for over 250 cars. Total show registration was 135 cars including 55 day of show registrations. Model years ranged from 1920 to 2015 with marques from all eras in between being represented. Total attendance would have been higher if not for some predicted afternoon rain. Fortunately, the rain held off and the slight overcast helped to keep things cool. Along with the show cars, attendees were able to browse the many vendors and classics for sale in the car coral. For those who were hungry during the show, food trucks were on site providing bar-b-que as well as ice cream. Of the 67 awards presented at the show, 16 were taken home by Buick owners and included 7 1 st Place, 3 2 nd Place, and 6 3 rd Place. Dixie Chapter members that won an award in their Class were: Roy Bass (1966 Riviera GS), Danny Finkelstein (1968 GS400), Bill & Nancy Hanson (1931 Model 86), Jack & Pat Horvath (1976 LeSabre), Lee Hurdelbrink (1965 Skylark), Bruce & Shar Kile (1975 LeSabre), Jerry & Jean Richstein (1990 Reatta), Bob Stone (2012 Regal GS), Gene & Andrea Walsh (1968 Skylark) and JD & Roxanne Westfall (1967 Wildcat). In addition, two Dixie Chapter members received Best Of awards. Congratulations to Walt & Judy Ehrenfeuchter; Best Buick (1959 Invicta) and Bruce & Shar Kile; Best Survivor (1936 Special). Member News : Buick Driving Enthusiasts Spring Tour, by Guest Reporter Jack Horvath: On May 15-20, Dixie Chapter members Frank & Jan Blizzard, Jack & Pat Horvath, Bruce & Shar Kile, Jerry & Jean Richstein, and JD Westfall joined hosts Skip & Jane Petsch & the rest of the 75 Buick Driving Enthusiasts for the 2016 National Tour to Callaway Gardens at Pine Mountain. Our first stops were at the FDR Warm Springs Little White House, National Park Museum and polio therapy pool complex. On the second day we visited the National Infantry Museum at Ft Benning. The military training student graduation field, covered viewing stands, and historic Army displays were very impressive. On the third day we headed west to Tuskegee, AL, where we were able to explore the Tuskegee Airmen Museum, and the Booker T. Washington/George Washington Carver Museum at the Tuskegee University. On Friday we drove with a police escort to the Callaway family Hills and Dales Estate in LaGrange. This gorgeous 1916 mansion with 13,000 square feet, and the surrounding gardens, which were begun by the wife, Sarah Fuller in the 18th century, were wonderful sights to behold. During our police escort, our thirty Buicks, including Cary and Lynn Crutchfield s silver 1991 Hearse signed as LST RYDE, the local drivers all courteously pulled over to the side and allowed us to pass. We enjoyed a wide variety of satisfying meals throughout the week, and finished our tour with a rousing banquet at our central location, the Pine Mountain Resort. Photos by Pat Horvath NOTE: If you know of members winning awards or touring to interesting places, or have an idea for an article of interest to our members, please let Jerry know at least one week before the end of the month to enable inclusion in the next Dixie Valve Chatter.

Deals on Wheels: 1960 Buick LeSabre: Debbie Brooks has decided to part with her award winning 1960 LeSabre with just under 43,000 original miles. Lots of new parts! I won best GM car, best in class, plus a couple of plaques this year. She is a beautiful car and I hate to part with her. She has leaks and needs more gaskets replaced. She needs front brake shoes as the ones I purchased didn t fit and she needs a horn as the horn button fell down inside steering column when the new turn signal actuator was put in. I also had a guy who works on upholstery repair a couple of places where seam was coming apart. It has 87K pampered miles, is near perfect inside & out, and has power everything.
