Micah Lexier, a Torontobased multimedia artist, created The Hall of Names 1,000 first names submitted by people across the country, laser-cut from sheets of stainless steel and suspended from the arched roof of the Galleria space at Enercare Centre.

A Dramatic Landmark on Toronto s Waterfront With stunning architectural design, the LEED Gold certified Enercare Centre is the focal point of Toronto s Exhibition Place a 192-acre lakefront complex that s a vibrant destination for exhibitions, conventions, festivals, public celebrations, and events. Magnificent in size and flexibility, Enercare Centre offers over 1 million sq. ft. of contiguous exhibit, meeting and event space. For large-scale conventions, there s Allstream Centre, our LEED Silver certified conference facility, which is connected to Enercare Centre. Our dedicated event coordinators provide a single point of contact ensuring smooth, seamless planning for organizers. The facility offers an in-house catering and concessions department, serving attendees, exhibitors and gala events. Conveniently located beside a major highway, Enercare Centre offers on-site parking for over 6,100 vehicles, convenient public transit access, as well as marshalling yards and parking for coach transportation. Leading-edge Environmental Initiatives Enercare Centre is one of the world s most environmentally responsible exhibition and convention facilities. The Enercare Centre is one of the first convention centres in Canada to achieve LEED Gold certification. Our award-winning GREENSmart Program reflects the goals of sustainability, energy production and waste diversion within Enercare Centre and across the grounds of Exhibition Place. Sustainability Energy Production LIGHTING RETROFIT The Enercare Centre has upgraded its existing metal halide light fixtures with high bay LED fixtures that are dimmable and have luminaire control modules. The estimated annual energy reduction from the project is 620.409 MWh with an avoided green house gas emission of 151379.8 kg of CO 2, 0.0391 kg of SOx and 0.2159 kg of NOx. WIND TURBINE Exhibition Place features the first permanent wind turbine in Toronto a 30-storey structure capable of generating more than 1 million kilowatt hours of power per year. The turbine also helps to displace some of the harmful chemicals that are responsible for smog and acid rain, moving up to 1,800 tonnes of CO 2 annually. GREEN ROOF A green roof atop the adjacent Horse Palace building reduces HVAC costs in underlying structures, improves site storm-water management and, on a larger scale, helps to reduce the urban heat island effect and ultimately cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions. The Green Roof was able to reduce building temperatures by 1-2 degrees Celsius and results in a 5% decrease in electric demand for cooling. URBAN FORESTRY Exhibition Place is home to an urban forestry program that not only beautifies the grounds, but also helps improve air quality. There are more than 3,000 trees across the site, as well as numerous gardens. The trees are watered using irrigation from the adjacent Lake Ontario. Waste Diversion CO-GENERATION The 1.6 MW Co-Generation system utilizes natural gas combustion engines to generate two forms of secondary energy used to heat and power the Enercare Centre. Waste heat produced by the engine is recovered in the form of hot water that complements the boilers in the winter. SOLAR ENERGY In 2006, a 100 kw solar photovoltaic (PV) generation plant was installed on the rooftop of the Horse Palace, which was the single largest installation of its kind in Canada. Currently Exhibition Place has a total PV capacity of 600 kw that collects solar energy and generates clean, pollution-free electricity. The plant reduces CO 2 emissions by 245 tonnes annually. Our 30-storey wind turbine is capable of generating more than 1 million kilowatt hours of power per year, enough to power 250 homes annually. This program includes 4-stream recycling of paper, plastic/glass, food waste and litter from exhibitions and events. The facility uses and recycles 100% post-consumer hand towels in all public restrooms. There are also safe disposal and recycling programs for items such as batteries, fluorescent lamps, paint and toner cartridges. To date, the facility is already diverting over 85% of its waste.
