ABOUT KRUŠEVAC The city of Kruševac is located the central part of the Republic of Serbia. It covers the area of 854km² and includes 101 townships and 145.000 inhabitants in total. The Kruševac urban area has about 65,000 inhabitants. It is located in the valleys of West Morava River, Rasina River, between the Jastrebac, Kopaonik and Željin mountains. The City of Kruševac is the centre of the Rasina District, which includes municipalities Aleksandrovac, Brus, Varvarin, Trstenik and Ćićevac. As a city rich in tradition and centuries of history, once the medieval Serbian capital, Kruševac today is a modern city, economic, administrative, cultural, health, education, information and sports centre of importance for the Rasina District and the Republic of Serbia.

-----History----- The City of Kruševac was founded as the capital city of Serbia by Prince Lazar in the 1371. The name was first mentioned in the 1387 in the decree ordered by Prince Lazar for the regulation of trade agreements with merchants from Dubrovnik. The legend has it that the name Kruševac originated from the local name of the round stone found in the river basins from which the city was built of. The city became the economical and cultural centre of Serbia, which gave the initiative for the organization of the country. After the Battle at Kosovo, Kruševac becomes the capital city of the vassal Serbia under Otoman Empire, ruled by Princess Milica, and later by her and Lazar's son, Despot Stefan, who later designates Belgrade as the new capital. -----Geomorphologic and climatic features----- - Mostly mountainous area with less lowland areas in river valleys - The average altitude is 300m - The average temperature is 11 º C - Relative humidity 66-83% Approximately 35% of the total area of the city perimeter is under forests. The largest complex of forests is widespread in Jastrebac Mountain. Territory of the City of Kruševac is also known for significant sources of mineral and geothermal water (Bele Vode, Ribarska Banja, Lomnica, Žabar, Čitluk).

-----Agriculture in Kruševac----- The area of Kruševac has great geographic conditions for agricultural production. The fertile valleys of Morava and Rasina rivers and the slopes of Kopaonik mountain are the center of agricultural production of Serbia. The largest areas are used for the production of maize, wheat and forage crops. Of forage crops, the most croped are the cultivars of alfalfa, red clover, vetch, forage beet, forage pea, and forage maize. Breeding of these crops is the most intense in the villages of Mačkovac, Globoder, Bivolje, Čitluk, Pepeljevac, Žabare, Meševo among others, which are settled in the valleys of Rasina, West Morava and Pepeljuša rivers. The mountainous regions of Kruševac area are covered with rich pastures and meadows, which provides vast potentials for animal husbandry. There are, also, very favorable conditions for viticulture, especially on the slopes around Morava river valley and in Župa region due to climate conditions and fertile soil. The orchards are established in the vast and fruitful areas of Aleksandrovac, Brus, Trstenik, Veliki Kupci and Drenova. TRAVEL INFORMATION ------Position of Kruševac in Europe-----
