International Symposium on a Sustainable Future (ISSF), 2013 ISSF Schedule Dates: October 16-18, 2013. Venue: Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR), Mumbai-400 065 India. Expected Outcome: The outcome of the ISSF is expected to generate momentum for advanced research and action on concepts of sustainability in India. Proceedings of the ISSF would contain all presented papers. Arrangements has been made to publish some good papers in our peer reviewed International Journal (IJSI). GENERAL INFORMATION AND LOGISTICS A. Accommodation Only a limited number of subsidized accommodation units with all meals are available for three nights (October 15-17, 2013). Please note that the subsidized accommodation will be allotted, on first-cum-firstserved-basis, as and when we receive the registration form along with the registration fee. If any participant wants to come earlier or extend his/ her stay beyond above dates, organizers may try to arrange the same but the participant must inform this well in advance. Such availability, if possible, would be conveyed to the participant and extra cost of accommodation, on per night basis, may be charged. Participants, who opt for registration with no accommodation, need to arrange for their own accommodation. B. How to Reach IGIDR Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research (IGIDR) is situated at Goregaon East, next to Film City (often known as Bollywood). A map of the road leading to the institute and also a map of the institute campus are attached in the following pages. B1. From International/Domestic Airport The distance between IGIDR and International and Domestic Airport is about 13 kms. You can hire either a radio (metered) taxi (charges will be as displayed in the meter) or a prepaid taxi (fixed cost to be paid upfront on the booking counters at the airport itself). Taxi charge from International airport to IGIDR is approximately Rs.400 during daytime. Add 25 per cent extra charges if the taxi is hired between 00.00 hrs to 05.00 hrs. For more information on taxi services refer to point C -Taxi Services in Mumbai. B2. From Railway Stations Bombay Central (BCT) This is the terminal station for most of the Western Railway Trains. Distance from IGIDR to Bombay Central station is around 22 kms. You can either take a Local train and get down at Goregaon (East) Station OR hire a taxi to take you to IGIDR Campus. The taxi charges are about Rs.600/-. If you are coming by the local train, you can take a bus (number 343) from Goregaon East Station and get down at IGIDR bus stop. You can also hire an auto rickshaw or taxi from Goregaon (East) Station to IGIDR, and charges are approximately Rs.60 and Rs.90, respectively. Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) This is the terminal station for most of the Central Railway Trains. Distance from IGIDR to CST is around 30 kms. You can either take a Local train and get down at Goregaon (East) station OR hire a taxi to take you to IGIDR Campus. Taxi charge from CST station to IGIDR is approximately Rs.800. 2

Dadar (DR) This is the Common Junction for both Central and Western Railway Trains. Distance from IGIDR to Dadar station is around 18 kms. You can either take a Local train and get down at Goregaon (East) station OR hire a taxi to take you to IGIDR Campus. The taxi charges are about Rs.500/-. C. Taxi Services in Mumbai There are several radio taxi services available in Mumbai which include MERU CABS (Tel: 4422-4422), MEGA CABS (Tel: 4242-4242) and EASY CABS (Tel: 4343-4343) and TAB CABS (Tel: 63636363). Their booking counters are located at Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport (just near the exit but within the airport itself), Mumbai. The radio taxi drivers will provide a print out of the exact amount to be paid by the passengers (as per the reading in the taxi meter). The other options are the regular Black and Yellow taxis; Cool Cabs and Auto Rickshaws (3 wheelers) which have digital meters but the drivers do not provide a print out of the fares charged. D. Weather in Mumbai Mumbai is a coastal city and due to its tropical location it has moderate temperatures with high levels of humidity. In the month of October, the mean daily temperature ranges between 23 C (min) and 33 C (max) making it hot during the days and cool during the nights. E. Indian Currency The Indian Currency is known as Rupee (written as Rs. or INR) and each Rupee is divided into 100 paise. Currently, One US Dollar is equivalent to about Rs.65. Foreign delegates may exchange the currency on arrival at the airport or they can also do so at any Bank in the city. Please do not take any exchange from any unauthorized person. F. Telephone Services You can make call by using any public telephone booth operated manually or by using prepaid telephonic card or coins automatically.
