2018 WELCOME TO SUMMER CAMP DEAR VOLUNTEER, Congratulations on being confirmed for Summer Camp! Ninety five percent of our camp is staffed by the generosity of volunteers like you. Thank you for offering your time and energy! The experience at Flying Horse Farms will be magical, transforming and fun for you as a volunteer. This confirmation packet is full of all the information you need to prepare for camp. Please read through everything carefully and follow any and all instructions. HOW TO GET TO CAMP From Cincinnati, Dayton, Columbus, or an area south of I-70: Travel to Columbus. Take I-71 N from Columbus to Exit 151. Turn left onto State Route 95 and travel three miles to the camp entrance, which will be on your left. The camp entrance is located directly across the street from Consolidated Electric. If you pass the water tower, you have gone too far. Drive down the main road to the Big Red Barn parking area where someone will greet you and provide further directions. From Cleveland / Northeast Ohio: Travel on I-71 S toward Columbus to Exit 151. Turn right onto State Route 95 and travel three miles to the camp entrance, which will be on your left. The camp entrance is located directly across the street from Consolidated Electric. If you pass the water tower, you have gone too far. Drive down the main road to the Big Red Barn parking area where someone will greet you and provide further directions. From Toledo / Northwest Ohio: Travel on I-75 S toward Dayton to Exit 156. Head east on State Route 15 toward Columbus. State Route 15 becomes US 23 after 15 miles. Continue on US 23 S for another 32 miles exiting in Marion onto State Route 95. Turn left on State Route 95 heading east toward Mt. Gilead. Travel 14 miles to Mt. Gilead continuing on State Route 95 another four miles to the camp entrance on your right, just past the water tower. Gilead, Ohio 43338 If family members need to contact you in an emergency, they can call our camp emergency cell phone 24 hours a day at 419.560.3754. BRING YOUR THINGS The weather will ultimately determine appropriate clothing for your summer at camp; however, the following is a suggested list of items to consider. Clearly marking clothing with your last name will make it easier to return should anything be lost or left behind. We can never be sure what weather conditions to expect in Ohio, so please adjust the list based on the current forecast and your needs. Footwear Policy: You may wear sandals with a heel strap (no flip-flops) around camp. However, for your safety, the following program areas will require closed toe shoes for all staff, volunteers, and campers: archery, high ropes, and outpost camping along with select full-camp activities. Nametags: For safety purposes nametags must be worn at all times at camp. Free laundry facilities are on site and available for you to use. Please bring your own detergent/dryer sheets. We have towels at camp, but we are asking that you each bring your own bath & beach towel in case of shortage. Be sure to clearly label your personal towels. Each bed in the cabin is a standard bunk bed, supplied with sheets, 1 blanket & 1 pillow. For extra comfort, you may want to bring a twin-sized foam egg crate, an additional pillow or favorite blanket. Flying Horse Farms has a seasonal staff specific WIFI network.

POLICIES AND GUIDELINES Below are camp policies for you to be familiar with prior to arriving at camp. We look forward to seeing you soon! GENERAL GUIDELINES Outside visitors are not permitted on grounds at any time unless prior permission is granted by the Camp Director. Flying Horse Farms is not responsible for lost or stolen items. For the safety and health of our campers, Flying Horse Farms is completely nut free. Leave all foods containing nuts at home. NON DISCRIMINATION All persons providing any services shall be welcome regardless of race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation. Hiring, assignment, promotion or other conditions of staff employment shall be carried out without regard to race, color, religion, gender, age, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation. Membership in the governing body is inclusive of all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, physical or mental disability or sexual orientation. HARASSMENT No staff member can be sanctioned or dismissed for having submitted to or refusing to submit to the actions of an employer, his/her representative or anyone who, abusing the authority and the power of their position, has given orders, made threats, imposed limits or exerted pressure of any kind on this staff member with a goal of obtaining favors of a sexual nature to his/her own advantage or that of a third party. No staff member should undergo repeated actions of moral harassment which have the goal or the effect of degrading working conditions to the point where they damage his/her rights and his/her dignity, alter his/her health, physical or mental, or compromise his/her professional future. POST-CAMP COMMUNICATION Flying Horse Farms encourages volunteers and staff to communicate with campers and camper parents post-camp through the Flying Horse Farms Facebook page. Funneling communication through this page allows Flying Horse Farms staff to monitor communications and ensure an emotionally and physically safe environment. In recognizing the value of relationships formed at camp and the privacy of our campers and their families, if a volunteer or staff member wishes to connect with a camper post-camp outside of the Flying Horse Farms Facebook page, they must follow the procedures below: 1. The volunteer or staff member will contact the Camper & Family Liaison with the request. 2. The camp leadership staff has discretion to connect that individual with the parent or guardian of the camper. 3. If the camp leadership staff chooses to pass along the request to the camper s parent or guardian, the parent or guardian will determine if they would like to accept the volunteer or staff member s request. 4. If the parent or guardian chooses to connect with the volunteer or staff member, Flying Horse Farms does not take responsibility for the relationship between the volunteer and camper. The parent or guardian is responsible for monitoring all interactions between their camper and the volunteer or staff member. FHF asks that photos of campers and/or camper families are not shared publicly (via social media) regardless of the relationship with the camper family.

CAMP CODE OF CONDUCT These Standards were developed to protect the rights of Flying Horse Farms, its campers, volunteer staff members and employees. A volunteer or employee who violates any of these standards may be subject to discipline, up to and including suspension or termination. 1. Staff members will not be in the possession of or use any alcoholic beverage or illegal substances during the camp session, including pre-camp training. 2. Smoking and tobacco products are not permitted in camp. 3. Staff members may not have in their possession or on camp property: firearms, slingshots, fireworks or any type of weapons or tools. This includes storage of these items in vehicles while at camp. 4. Staff members will not abuse or misuse any camp property including equipment, vehicles or materials. 5. Staff members shall comply with all camp safety rules and common safety practices. These include, but are not limited to: a. No candles allowed in the cabins. b. All staff and campers are required to wear closed-toed shoes except when inside the cabin. 6. Relationships with campers should be friendly and supportive. Staff members may never become romantic, intimate, suggestive or sexual with a camper. 7. Staff members shall not enter the cabins of the opposite sex, with the exception of Medical or Administrative Staff. 8. Relationships with other staff members should be friendly and supportive. Staff members may never become intimate, suggestive or sexual with each other while at camp. Staff relationships may not interfere with any camp responsibilities. 9. Staff members are expected to maintain appropriate and acceptable standards of dress and behavior. 10. Abusive language, arguing, profanity, striking or fighting between staff members and campers or other staff is prohibited. 11. Staff members are expected to be at all scheduled activities on time, alert and prepared, unless it is your scheduled period off. 12. Staff members shall report any camp related injury (to self, staff or camper) immediately to the WellNest and/or Camp Director. 13. Staff members will not distribute or post non-flying Horse Farms literature of any kind. 14. Dishonesty and/or theft are prohibited. 15. The Camp Director may immediately suspend any staff member suspected of endangering the well-being of others pending an investigation. 16. Staff members are prohibited from accepting expensive gifts or monetary gratuities from parents or campers. 17. Staff members must remain on site during sessions unless given permission by the Camp Director or another member of the leadership team. 18. There will be no transporting of staff, volunteers or campers on open bed trucks or in any trailers. Common sense rules at camp. Thanks for cooperating to keep everyone safe.
