I m going to name my team the gofers for next year s tournament. We put more than enough divots in the course to be considered a pack of rodents and might have to look for a new course for next year s tournament. The after party and prize awarding was a bit noisy but handled well by our golf authoritarian even though I didn t see any big bottles of amaretto being exchanged. Make your reservations early for next year because this can only grow larger and you will be shut out. Great job to all involved in running the tournament. Opening day will be June 28 th and again I hope the membership realizes the time and effort they put in arranging these events so we do expect the membership to participate in these club functions. The marina is filling up and slips are at a premium. People bringing their boat in need to give the float chairman a three day notice so he can make sure their slip is clear. You just can t pull in and take any slip you want. All slips are assigned to people that may be coming in or are just out for a ride and don t need the aggravation of trying to find another spot because someone pull into their slip. It s been our experience that when gangs of kids gather in the parking lot during the summer we start to have problems with car break-ins and getting in and out of the parking lot. Every member who sees this happening should call 911 and report this is going on in the McConnell Park back parking lot. This situation can get out of hand very quickly and every member should be concerned about it. Back to boating, we have moorings at Peddocks Island and World s End for the use of our members. If there is someone on it that is not a member of the club using one of the moorings you can ask them to move. If it is a member ask to raft up and get acquainted with the other member. We re all in this to have fun. Be an involved member. Well as always be careful coming and going from the club whether by boat or car and inside the bay there should be NO WAKE.

page 2 Dorchester Yacht Club - Board of Directors Monthly Meeting June 5, 2014 Officers present: Paul Polito, Greg Bedrosian, Brian Taylor, Marty Cahill, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Ray Tomasini, Packy McDonough, Bob Mirabito, Chairmen present: Christine O Keefe, David Greenwood, Bob Bailey, Al Chouinard absent: Jack Donegan (excused for work) Meeting called to order at 6:10 p.m. Treasurer s Report: Marty passed out a treasurer s report. About 1/2 the dredging bills have been paid. Final balances are: Dredging Account: $151,545.00 Capital Improvement: $75,277.73 Checking Account: $75,296.50 Correspondence: Hospitality cards were received from Wollaston and Lynn Yacht Clubs. House: There are some shingles needed to cap the ridges on the roof, otherwise it is all done. Water is all set. Permit parking is for BOD only. Dave ordered 12 teak barstools, which cost $106.00/each, with a 10% discount (approx. $1050 total). They are designed for outside use and should arrive on Monday. Inboard Float/ Mooring Master: We ve been working on fixing remaining water leaks. We lost three angle irons at the welds on floats. Al is looking at doing some cross-bracing especially near the larger boats. Hoss asked if we could get water on the gas dock. There should already be water was the response, so we ll just need to get a hose there. The weather hasn t been good enough to pull and check the moorings. Outboard Float: They plan on doing the water on the C-pier of the outboard side. David says that they had someone working on the water 2 days ago and there should be water on the outboard; we ll look at it after the meeting. Regatta: Chrissie said she s been having trouble finding entertainment for Opening Day. Steve gave her the number of a DJ. We will be starting the weekly gas raffle; $5.00 for a chance at a $50.00 gas prize. Raffle winner will be drawn each Thursday. There will be a box into which people can put the ticket & cash. Permitting: Brian and Dave are working on the forms for the pump-out reimbursed. Unfinished Business: Dave thinks that we ll be able to keep gasoline prices low. Ray suggested we send emails to the other clubs on the Neponset River letting them know we have gas and that other boaters are welcome. Ray also suggested we ask members to suggest to their boating friends at other clubs that we have gas at good prices and the pump out and encourage them to use our services. New Business: Steve has ordered the gasoline receipts we ll need so boaters can claim the tax rebate (http://www.americanboating.org/fueltax.asp#massachusetts). The golf tournament is at the course at 1281 West Roxbury Parkway, Chestnut Hill (Brookline). The meeting was adjourned at 7:10 p.m. General Membership Meeting of the Dorchester Yacht Club Thursday, June 12, 2014 Officers present: Paul Polito, Brian Taylor, Marty Cahill, Steve Cavanaugh Directors present: Chairmen present: Christine O Keefe, Bob Bailey, Al Chouinard Absent: Greg Bedrosian, Ray Tomasini, Jack Donegan, Bob Mirabito, Packy McDonough, Dave Greenwood, Paul Polito called the meeting to order at: 7:30 p.m. Two applicants were presented for election to membership: James Marathas, and Mark Worster. One applicant failed to show up (Greg Odin). Minutes: The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Treasurer s Report: Marty passed out a treasurer s report for May. Final balances are: Dredging Account: $151,545.00

page 3 Capital Improvement: $75,277.73 Checking Account: $75,296.50 Correspondence: Hospitality cards were received from Chelsea Yacht Club and Newton Yacht Club. House Committee: No report. Inboard Float Committee/Moorings: Al would like to have a work party this Saturday for about 3 hours to shore up a finger float. No work has been done on the moorings due to the weather. Outboard Float Committee: We do have water; Cliff Edwards worked several hours to fix things and get everything working. Bob said that a member came in and is on Livio s float, but didn t leave his name, so he isn t sure who it is; he reminded people that if someone does bring a boat in, please get the name and boat info to Bob. He also asked that if people call and leave a message, that they speak slowly and repeat the phone number. Regatta Committee: Saturday June 28th is Opening Day/Blessing of the Fleet. Chrissy is still selling the raffle tickets for a $50.00 gas card. Permitting Officer: We have to have the Fire Dept to come and inspect the gas dock. Safety Officer: Walter reported that if you have not run into the situation of an LNG coming in to dock. They want have a 2-mile clearance ahead of the boat and you need to come to a complete stop on the side. The police are being quite tough on this, and they will board. MBYCA Report: Meeting Jubilee will lose some of their moorings. 20 million has been allocated for dredging in the harbor, but the exact area is unknown. A scholarship was awarded to a Mass Maritime candidate. Wessaguesset YC on Aug 9 & 10 will host the MBYCA Rendez-vous. Update is being done to Outer Brewster. Next meeting will be at Port Norfolk, which will have the year books. Unfinished Business: We will postpone the proposed amendment. Kathy Tyrell said that the mooring for Peddocks Island is in. The one at World s End is not. Marty said that he does have the approval (and the sticker which would be on a boat, but the mooring is for any DYC). Marty will call the company (same that puts in at Peddocks) about the World s End. New Business: Paul reminded members not to just grab any open slip...you need to use only the slip you ve been assigned to. A member asked if there were gas grills for member use; Paul said yes, they are presently down front at the bottom of the entrance ramp. Steve Gallagher said member Marty Devlin had had a knee operation and asked for his address to send a get-well card. Chrissy drew the first raffle ticket, and the winner was Kathy Tyrell. Meeting was adjourned at 8:00 p.m. REMINDER: DUES, FLOAT & LOCKER FEES MUST BE PAID BY NOVEMBER 30TH OR FORFEITURE OF MEMBER- SHIP & PRIVILEGES WILL RESULT ARTICLE XXIII Dues SECTION 3 #1 On October First of each year, the Treasurer shall issue bills for Annual Dues, Float and Locker rents for the following year.
