Rail Average Weekday Station Fiscal Year 2010 Attached are the FY 2010 average weekday Rail passenger boardings by station based on annual ticket sales. Included are: Tables for each Rail line, with the three largest stations on each line noted. All stations sorted largest to smallest. 2000-2010 history for all stations. Average weekday Rail passenger boarding figures DO NOT double-count transferring NJT Rail passengers. For example, a Princeton to NY Penn rider who must transfer between NJT trains at Princeton Junction is shown as a Princeton boarding, not as both Princeton and Princeton Junction boardings. Secaucus Junction is primarily a transfer location, and both a boarding figure and passenger trip figure (includes transfers) are provided. FY 2010 Rail ridership in total was -1.5% lower than FY 2009 (financial statement unlinked Rail passenger trips). Ridership during the 1st quarter of the fiscal year was substantially below that of the prior year at -5.5%, but year-year declines diminished thereafter, netting to -1.5% for the year. Compared with last year, 34 of 152 stations (22%) exhibited growth in average weekday boardings. Excluding major terminals, the largest gains in absolute boardings were at: South Orange +220 boardings Millburn + 85 boardings Dover + 83 boardings The highest boardings growth in percentage terms were at (major terminals excluded): Mount Arlington +49.0% Wayne Route 23 +47.4% Belmar +14.1% The poorest station performance in absolute boardings were at (major terminals excluded): New Brunswick (- 374) boardings Trenton (- 314) boardings Aberdeen-Matawan (- 258) boardings The largest boardings declines in percentage terms were at (major terminals excluded): Atco (- 24.1%) Bernardsville (- 19.9%) Watsessing (- 19.4%) Compared with FY 2000, 107 of 152 stations (70%) exhibit net growth in average weekday boardings. The stations not showing gains above FY 2000 boarding levels are largely concentrated on the Coast Line, Montclair Boonton Line (portion of the line west of Montclair State University station), and the Gladstone Branch.

FY 2010 AVERAGE WEEKDAY BOARDINGS The following charts depict average weekday ticketed NJT passenger boardings by rail station. The three largest stations on each rail line are indicated by bold type and rank (in parenthesis). *NJT Passengers transferring between trains are not counted twice (a Princeton to NY Penn ticketed trip requiring a transfer at Princeton Junction appears as a Princeton boarding, not Princeton and Princeton Junction).
