GENERAL MANAGER MESSAGE August Membership Drive? What August Membership Drive? While PBS stations across the country are holding a two week Membership Drive, WyomingPBS Members will be enjoying many of their regular shows. But, please check the Program Guide carefully. PBS has scheduled a number of marathons to make up for the missing two weeks. For example, Season 3 of Poldark has two episodes scheduled for the 19th and 3 episodes scheduled on the 26th. That s a lot of bare chests! Where s Doc Martin? As I mentioned last month, our rights to air the first six seasons of Doc Martin ended in July. So we hope you enjoy Durrells in Corfu taking Doc s place on Thursdays at 8pm. However, Doc will return in the fall with a repeat of the most recent season, followed in January with all new episodes! Two Places to Call Home? Our rights to air the third season of A Place to Call Home end in August. So we ll be airing two episodes, back to back, through the month. Season 4, the most recent available to Public Television, will repeat starting at the end of August. We hope to bring you the new Season 5 in January. Programs like Doc Martin and A Place to Call Home are not part of the PBS line up. Each year, we write checks to the owners of these shows for the rights to air them in Wyoming. Those checks are backed by the contributions made by you, the Members of WyomingPBS. On behalf of all the Doc and Place fans, thank you for your support! We hope you ve found our coverage of the Republican primary for Governor informative. The Lander Forum and both formal debates are available online at youtube.com/wyomingpbs. On August 2, WyomingPBS will host a debate among the Democratic primary candidates. It will be broadcast and streamed live from the campus of Central Wyoming College and also available on YouTube. Inscribed on the wall of the Nebraska State Capitol is the quote, The Salvation of the State is Watchfulness in the Citizen. I think it applies just as well to Wyoming. We ll continue our debate coverage in September and October. Thank you for watching and thank you for supporting WomingPBS. Terry Dugas General Manager Station Happenings Congratulations to Wendi Brown - the proud owner of the Joe Bonamassa autographed Epiphone Ltd Ed Special-1 electric guitar! The guitar was auctioned off during our June membership festival. Enjoy the guitar, Wendi, and thanks for your support! WYOMINGPBS STAFF Terry Dugas General Manager Lonny Fairfield Chief Technology Officer Kyle Nicholoff Production Manager Jennifer Amend Director of Marketing and OutreachProgram Guide Editor WYOMINGPBS FOUNDATION STAFF Joanna Kail Executive Director Cole Acuna Administrative Assistant The WyomingPBS program guide is published monthly by WyomingPBS, 2660 Peck Ave., Riverton, WY 82501 and mailed to those who contribute $50 ($25 senior rate) or more annually to WyomingPBS. WyomingPBS Education Services When Educators return back to school this fall they will find new resources for art classes in the WyomingPBS Education Collection on WyomingPBS LearningMedia. The lessons and resources will be based on the WyomingPBS documentary Painting the Falls of Yellowstone. The waterfalls of Yellowstone National Park have long captured the imagination of visitors and artists alike. Artists, Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt, first captured the magnificence and mystique of a few falls in the 1870s which helped establish the park. Over the last several decades, over 250 named and unnamed waterfalls and cascades have been discovered in accessible and backcountry areas of the park. Their discovery prompted Cody-based and internationally renowned artist M.C. Mike Poulsen to try and capture these waterfalls on canvas. His work depicts not only the beauty of the falls, but incorporates Native American history and spiritual themes, wildlife, and the settlement history of the area. WyomingPBS followed Poulsen over two years providing insight into his vision and creative process. We are excited that students and educators will be able to learn about the beauty of Yellowstone through art. 13 BE MORE...AMAZED 13
