WEEKLY WRAP UP 2018 May 11, 2018 Disclaimer: The Weekly Wrap Up includes some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the past week or so. Any opinions or other comments that may be deemed snarky or even sarcastic are mine and do not reflect the City of Sandy Springs nor the SSPD nor anyone associated with SSPD nor anyone living in proximity of this establishment. This writing may contain spelling and/or grammatical errors, which are a direct result of my lack of paying attention in class. Sandy Springs borders the northern city limits of Atlanta meaning we get a lot of they get, only mostly in smaller portions. This is not Mayberry folks so just realize that things do happen, but fortunately, they happen infrequently. @captainrose LOCAL NEWS Burglary 5699 500 block Granite Place 30350 5/5 The caller said he was arrested for threatening his roommate, (he said he had a machete to make him move out faster,) and during that time, someone came into his residence and took his TV, two laptops, clothes, cologne, and sunglasses. The roommate made the short list of suspects.

5796 200 block E. Belle Isle 30342 5/7 The caller said someone attempted to kick his apartment door open. The suspect failed to breech the door. A second suspect also unsuccessfully tried to get in. The victim had a Ring doorbell that captured the incident on video. Suspect one is about 5-9, thin, and suspect two is taller, about 6-3, also thin. Both wore Adidas sweatpants with black and white stripes and both had their faces covered. Nothing was taken. Larceny 5707 5920 Roswell road 30328 5/5 (Experimac) The store employee said a man described as black male, came in the store to look around. The clerk said the man took two laptops and then fled on foot towards the Whole Foods (rear) area. 5719 Galambos Way 30328 5/5 (Stolen Phone) A phone was taken from the desk of an employee of the performing arts center. 5762 6100 block PDR 30328 5/6 The caller said she and a male friend named Andrew were staying at the Hilton Hotel. She left the room briefly to shower. When she returned, Andrew was gone as were her car keys, the car that goes with the keys, debit and credit cards, $800 cash, and a Walther P22 pistol. 5766 5930 Roswell Road 30328 5/6 (Whole Foods, soup aisle) The caller said while getting soup at the soup bar, she placed two packages down but forgot to take them with her when she left. Fifteen minutes later, she returned to discover they were gone. Video images showed a white male, black ball cap, gray shirt, black shorts and grey shoes removing both bags. The male paid for his items, and then he and a female sat at one of the tables, going through the bags. The officer requested and retrieved the Visa payment information the suspect used to pay for his items and the theft is under investigation. 5783 300 Hilderbrand Drive 30328 5/7 (Napa Auto Parts) Someone cut a muffler and catalytic converter from a customer s car. 5809 501 Northridge Road 30350 5/8 Stolen phone from Circa 400 Apartments.

5933 375 Northridge Road 30350 5/9 A terminated employee returned to retrieve his personal items from the security office. He later reported that his medical records and a Star Wars action figure were missing. 5945 1100 block Perimeter Center West 30328 5/10 The caller said she placed her phone under the cash register at her place of business. The phone holder has a pocket to keep credit cards and ID. Someone located them, removing them from the phone holder. Texas. The wiring process was unsuccessful so he mailed a check for that amount to 22 nd Street in Mineral Wells, Texas. Soon after, he discovered the e-mail was fraudulent. He was able to put a stop payment on the check before it could be processed. If this sounds familiar, you will remember we posted a similar scenario to another company representative who e-mailed a large amount of cash to the president of the company only to find out the mail was hacked. (2018-003630.) But Wait!!! There s More! Report # 5898-An employee of a financial group received an e-mail from her company CFO asking for twenty $100 itunes cards for clients. She purchased the cards and attempted to photograph the card numbers to send on the e-mail but it failed to send. She realized the e-mail was not the same. The crook did not get the card numbers but the cards cannot be returned because the seals were peeled off. That said, I m guess the first twenty new customers with this financial company will receive a free itunes card. Assault 5757 8610 Roswell Road 30350 5/6 A 40-year old Marietta woman told cops that she was assaulted by three other women outside Tony s Sports Bar at around 3 a.m. She identified one as a server at another local bar but did not know her name. She also claims her Rolex was taken sometime overnight. (Alcohol was involved.) The officer spoke to a man who identified himself as the caller s boyfriend. According to him, the fight began as he left Tony s with his girlfriend. She told him to Stop talking to those bitches! Other Areas of Interest Apparently, there was none this week.

Arrests Cinco de Mayo (Related?) On May 5 and early-morning May 6, DUI arrests were reported at 285, Northside Drive, Roswell, and Belle Isle Road, GA 400 at Northridge Road, and the 6000 block of Roswell Road. I suspect they are CDM related. There were plenty of other arrest, mostly of people doing stupid-people stuff. This Week s Einsteins Courtesy of Chuck Shepherd s News of the Weird www.newsoftheweird.com In a perhaps unintentional bid for the worst criminal disguise of 2018, Kerry Hammond Jr., 22, broke into a GameStop store in St. Marys, Georgia, at 1:19 a.m. on April 13, where he was captured on camera wearing a clear plastic wrapper (of the sort that holds bundles of bottled water) over his head. Even with the plastic "mask," WJXT reported, Hammond's face is clearly visible in surveillance video, and St. Marys police quickly identified him and captured him on April 17. Hammond already had two active felony warrants for his arrest for burglary and seconddegree criminal damage to property. [WJXT, 4/16/2018] Resorting to a low-tech, but possibly offensive strategy, Largo, Florida, detectives visited a dead man at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater and attempted to use his finger to unlock his smartphone. Linus F. Phillip, 30, was shot and killed by Largo police March 23 after he tried to drive away from an officer wanting to search him. As part of their investigation, police said they needed to access and preserve data on Phillip's phone. Legal experts generally agreed the detectives had not broken any laws, but Phillip's girlfriend, Victoria Armstrong, 28, was less forgiving: "Nobody even calling us... to let us know detectives were coming there at all is very disturbing," she told the Tampa Bay Times. "I'm very skeptical of all funeral homes now." [Tampa Bay Times, 4/21/2018]
