It is what is left of the original club layout from the late 1940's to 1971 before moving to it present location and was down sized to its current configuration. It is DC operation. The HO-scale layout is a two level 22 x 50 continuous loop layout called the Allegheny Central. It is a free lance model railroad and is built with the O-scale as it passes along side and over it. The layout was disassembled and moved to Altoona and reassembled. It was stretched a bit to make the aisle ways wider and some slight track changes to make a continuous loop operation along with some curves widened to ease train movement of longer cars. Heavy PRR steam and first-generation diesels haul mainline freight and passengers through Mount Union (actually, from one staging yard to another), while PRR and EBT yard jobs work the extensive Mount Union trackage.
