Scanlan, Sr., brings "nonrustable" stainless steel from Sweden to the United States for use in the manufacture of ice skate blades and surgical instruments. 1920 1961 Surg-I-Band color coding is invented, beginning a new era of single-use and instrument care products. 1960 1923 Dr. William J. Mayo works in collaboration with Dennis R. Scanlan, Sr., to design and manufacture the first Mayo surgical scissors. 1925 Dennis R. Scanlan, Sr., makes the first Crile forceps for Dr. George W. Crile at the Cleveland Clinic. 1968 Tim Scanlan, D.R. Scanlan, Jr. s son, joins the company and expands the instrument line, setting up a worldwide distribution network. 1930 Dennis R. Scanlan, Sr., convinces Walter Chrysler to use stainless steel for the roof of the new Chrysler Building in New York. 1930 1970 Scanlan International offers the world s medical community its latest invention, the new Aortic Vein Punch, for use in coronary bypass. 1970 1935 Dennis R. Scanlan, Sr., works in collaboration with Dr. Harvey Cushing to create neurosurgical instrumentation. 1975 The new Diamond Dust texture is developed to meet the need for an instrument tip surface that would provide surgeons with definite control without trauma to tissue or damage to needles. 1937 Dennis R. Scanlan, Sr., invents the portable iron lung for use in the treatment of polio patients. 1940 "Scanlan instruments must fit each surgeon s hand." D.R. Scanlan, Jr. 1980 Scanlan International begins offering complete medical packaging services, combining its U.S. facilities with a new office in Amsterdam. 1980 1946 Upon returning from England, where he served as Captain in the 8th Air Force, D.R. Scanlan, Jr., began work with his father to design and manufacture new surgical instruments, as well as single-use and instrument care products. 1980 Scanlan International develops the world s first single-use aortic vein punch. "We must remember why we make our products: To improve the quality of life." Timothy M. Scanlan 1950s The Scanlans work closely with Dr. C. Walton Lillehei and others at the newly founded heart surgery program of the University of Minnesota. 1950 1997 Working with world-renowned cardiovascular surgeons, Scanlan International begins to develop innovative designs and concepts for minimally-invasive surgical instruments. 1990 Timothy M. Scanlan President and Chief Executive Officer 1998 Scanlan International works in cooperation with industryleading robotic manufacturers to develop state-of-theart instrumentation for new robotic surgical systems for use in minimallyinvasive heart surgery. 1999 Scanlan International develops a new focus for Neurosurgical products working with industry leading surgeons. WARRANTY CARE & MAINTENANCE OF INSTRUMENTS WARRANTY http:// SCANLAN instrumentation is guaranteed to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for ten full years. Any instrument which proves defective when used for its intended purpose will be repaired or replaced at no charge, at the sole discretion of Scanlan International, Inc. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, either expressed or implied. In no event shall seller be liable to buyer, or any successors of buyer, for any claim for lost opportunity, loss of goodwill, or consequential or incidental damages of any kind for any amount in excess of the price of the product. Seller agrees to replace or to issue credit at seller s sole option any product determined to be defective in materials or workmanship. Seller shall not be responsible for the cost of labor or charges of any kind incurred due to product defect. Your rights under this warranty may vary from state to state and country to country. IMPORTANT: All SCANLAN instruments must be returned to Scanlan International for refurbishment. Refurbishment of Scanlan instrumentation by any other resource will void the Scanlan warranty. SCANLAN Instrument Sterilization Trays: SCANLAN instrument sterilization trays are warranted for 12 months against defects in material or workmanship. SCANLAN DIAMOND DUST Instrumentation: SCANLAN DIAMOND DUST jaws are guaranteed for 12 months. If needed, the DIAMOND DUST surface will be restored at no charge during the initial 12 month period. Needle Holders: The use of suture needles larger than those recommended may result in damage and invalidate your warranty. Please see The Suture Size Guide for SCANLAN Needle Holders for recommendations regarding the use of suture needles with SCANLAN instrumentation. A copy of this publication is packaged with every SCANLAN needle holder and is also available upon request. To maintain optimum operating condition and to protect your warranty of SCANLAN instrumentation, we recommend the following along with your general maintenance: Clean. Make certain that all blood and debris are removed from the instrument as soon as possible after use. Do not allow blood to dry on the instrument. Lubricate. After a thorough cleaning and rinsing, treat the instrument with an antimicrobial water soluble instrument lubricant. Identify. Scanlan can provide safe and appropriate instrument identification marking system(s) upon request. Do not use a mechanical engraver to mark the instrument. If you engrave the instrument, the warranty will be invalidated. Repair, Refurbish or Sharpen. Have this instrument repaired, refurbished, or sharpened only by a Scanlanauthorized facility. Servicing by an unauthorized facility will invalidate the warranty. Sterilize & Store. Instruments should always be sterilized and stored in an "open" and unlocked position. This increases the life of the instrument, prevents possible breakage, and is recommended by established standards. Protect. Be certain all delicate tipped instruments are covered with a device specially designed for instrument protection (such as SCANLAN Tip Guard instrument protectors) during storage and sterilization. CARE AND MAINTENANCE http:// Titanium Instrumentation: Different shades of blue may be found within the extensive line of anodized SCANLAN titanium instrumentation. This is not a defect, but a phenomenon which occurs due to slight variations of manufacture technique or alloy composition. This is a cosmetic characteristic only and does not compromise the high quality of your SCANLAN titanium instrumentation. Use. Instrument must be used for its intended purpose only. Improper use or care will invalidate warranty. Modifications. Modifications and repair of instruments are available and must be done only through an authorized facility. Modifications by an unauthorized facility will invalidate the warranty. Scissors: Do not cut suture, gauze, or wire with scissors unless it was designed to cut those materials. All SCANLAN Super Cut & Ultra Sharp scissors must be returned to Scanlan International for complete refurbishment and sharpening in order to maintain the unique cutting edge. IMPORTANT: All instruments must be decontaminated before returning to Scanlan International. Please identify decontaminated product by marking decontaminated" on the outer shipping carton. SCANLAN Premier Scissors: Sharpness of SCANLAN Premier Scissors is guaranteed for 12 months. If needed, resharpening will be performed at no charge during the 12 month period. All used product will be considered FIRM SALE. Warranted for 12 months against defects in material or workmanship. Reliance Bulldog Clamp: Warranty for materials and workmanship will be one year.
