THE NATURAL STATE The island of Tasmania is the smallest state in Australia, yet hosts some of the world s most stunning scenery. It is such a contrast to the states of mainland Australia. There is every kind of natural beauty; rugged mountains, picturesque lakes, scenic coast lines with sandy beaches and rocky cliffs, beautiful English style rural farmlands, World Heritage areas, superb rainforests, waterfalls and a variety of National Parks. The natural points of interest are complimented by a variety of cities and towns that host buildings with a style of architecture found nowhere else in Australia. Tasmania is one of The King s favourite Holiday Tours Let us share our tour experience and knowledge of this beautiful island state with you on your Tasmanian holiday. Tasmania is not a place that you can see in a hurry, some of the most appealing parts to be found are hidden off the main highways and beyond the cities and towns. As a result of this, your King s tour itinerary has been well planned to show you the best of Tasmania. With thirteen full days on the island, an opportunity is available for extra sightseeing and quality leisure time. Our arrival onto and departure from the island will be at Devonport. While in Tasmania you will experience the main cities and towns of; Launceston (2 nights), Swansea on the East Coast (1 night), Hobart (5 nights), Queenstown (2 nights) and Burnie (2 nights) with one night in Albury on our forward travel to Melbourne and one night in Gundagai on our return travel to Newcastle. There will be time for sightseeing in Melbourne before joining the night time Spirit of Tasmania sailing to Devonport. On both Spirit of Tasmania sailings our accommodation is in well-appointed porthole cabins, all of which have a toilet/shower and twin beds (no bunks). During the overnight cruise to and from Tasmania relax in the ships recreational areas; lounges bars restaurants try your luck in the gaming room check out the shop and travel information centre or pass the time with a movie screening. The Bass Strait cruise is more than a way of getting to and from Tasmania; it will be a wonderful and exciting part of your holiday experience. With multi night stays travelling will be easier without the continual packing and unpacking of your luggage. A small overnight bag only is required onboard the Spirit. No waiting around for hours at an airport, no extra luggage handling to change coaches. Let the team from The Kings of Newcastle show you the diversity this picturesque Island State has to offer.

Travelling towards Launceston, you will pass through many small townships; most of these like so many on the island have interesting English style architecture. One of the well-known attractions in Launceston is The Cataract Gorge. You may care to take a walk around the area or ride the chairlift across the Gorge. This is a great way to enjoy the scenic views. An afternoon visit to the Swiss Village complex at Grindelwald and Brady s Lookout with magnificent views up the Tamar Valley and surrounding river country side will finish our sightseeing for the day. Day 7 - FRIDAY 9 th March HOBART SIGHTSEEING TASMAN PENINSULA- PORT ARTHUR B 12:30pm 1:45pm Depart the Hotel for Port Arthur Tasmania s most visited tourist attraction. It is hard to believe that a place with such a disturbing past would be on everyone s must see list. One could not go to Tasmania without a visit to Port Arthur. The historic buildings and ruins have a beautiful and tranquil setting on the shores of a lovely harbour. During the morning, a guide will take you for a tour of the site concluding at the Information Centre. Time will be allowed for you to explore Port Arthur further at your own pace. Enjoy a one hour cruise across the Harbour with an authorised landing on The Isle of the Dead, another fascinating part of the convict era. Lake Pedder Lake Gordon The Gordon River Dam The Hydro town of Strathgordon Mount Field National Park The Russell Falls The Forestry Headquarters town of Maydena Historic New Norfolk The Hop Fields at Bushy Park (one of the oldest farming areas in the State). Add all this together with a Kings special BBQ lunch at Teds Beach (a scenic little spot on the shores of Lake Pedder) and you will have a great day. Our estimated time of return to the Hotel. You will have time to freshen up and enjoy a drink before dinner in the Hotel dining room at 6.45pm Day 10 - MONDAY 12 th March HUON VALLEY B in the Hotel dining room. At 9:30am the coach will depart for travel south, down the Channel Highway into the Huon Valley. Along the way are exquisite water and mountain views. While today the apple industry does not make up a large part of the Tasmanian economy, it was this area that apples were grown and helped Tasmania become known as the Apple Isle. You will have some time to purchase lunch and explore the small town of Huonville before travelling to the suburb of Kingston past the Antarctic Supply Base Headquarters. Return travel to Hobart will be via the bay side suburbs of Taroona and Sandy Bay, arriving at the Hotel at approx 4:30pm with time allowed for last minute shopping. Dinner cost is not included tonight.

Day 11 - TUESDAY 13 th March HOBART - QUEENSTOWN B-MT-L-D Depart the Hotel and Hobart as we head out to The Rugged West Coast. Today we will travel the Lyell Highway to Queenstown. A lunch time stop at Lake St Clair with the opportunity to explore this popular tourist area. The variety of scenery today will vary greatly. A visit will be made to the Wall in the Wilderness. The West Coast region has always been referred to as the wild side of Tasmania. Many of the rugged mountains and dense rainforests are listed as World Heritage areas. The Hydro Electric developments that have taken place over recent years have made much more of the area accessible for tourists and local residents. Of great interest today will be our visit to the mining town of Queenstown, a place with unbelievable landscape. The past few years have seen big changes in the Mount Lyell Copper Mine allowing for the regeneration of trees and vegetation on the hills around Queenstown. There are many historic buildings and wonderful stories associated with the early mining days in this town. We have a relaxed two night stay in this interesting mining town of the remote West Coast. West Coaster Motel Day 12 - WEDNESDAY 14 th March GORDON RIVER CRUISE - STRAHAN B-MT-L-D 3:00pm 4:00pm Our day will begin very early this morning, just after breakfast we will travel down to Strahan for an departure on the Gordon River Cruise. The cruise will include Macquarie Harbour, Hells Gate, The Gordon River, Sarah Island, The Atlantic Salmon and Ocean Trout Fish Farms. (A buffet lunch is included in your fare.) Onshore landings will be made at Heritage Landing on the Gordon River and Sarah Island. Return to the wharf at Strahan. You will have time to further explore the town of Strahan. Rejoin the coach for return travel to Queenstown. Dinner in the Motel dining room West Coaster Motel Day 13 - THURSDAY 15 th March QUEENSTOWN - BURNIE B-MT-L-D The time has come for us to leave the remote West Coast. We still have a lot more of Tasmania to fit into your holiday tour and the days are just going by so quickly! This morning we will travel through some magnificent scenery on our way to Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake. The Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park will be the last of Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage areas that we visit on our tour. There are very few travel brochures or books printed on Tasmania that do not include photographs of Dove Lake and Cradle Mountain. If you are lucky enough to be there on a clear sunny day you will realise why it really is a very special place. The varied landscapes include; rugged mountains, tall forests, windswept moors and glacial lakes. Following time at the Cradle Mountain Visitors Centre to see the interesting displays about the flora / fauna and history of the park, you will be transferred to smaller buses for your tour down to Dove Lake. (NB Entry into this area can be restricted if dangerous weather conditions occur.) When you return, it will be time to make our way towards the North West Coast. The beautiful lush green countryside stretching almost into the blue water of Bass Strait will be a very noticeable contrast to our surrounds of the past few days. Approximate time of arrival at the Hotel 4:30pm. Check in for our two-night stay. Dinner in the Hotel dining room Beachfront Voyager Day 14 - FRIDAY 16 th March NORTH WEST COAST B-MT-L-D +0 + Depart the Hotel for a day on the North West Coast. As we travel up the coastline this morning the scenery is impressive. The patchwork coloured fields of the farmlands and usual landforms of The Table Cape with its magnificent fields of tulips ablaze with colour, The Stanley Nut, Rocky Point and Circular Head will add even more pleasure to your time in Tasmania. There are special interests and attractions in each of the main towns we will see today, Boat Harbour, Sisters Beach, historic Stanley and Smithton. Situated a short distance from Smithton near Edith Creek is the beautiful privately owned Allendale Gardens, we have included a visit in today s touring. They are set on 65 acres of well-designed, landscaped gardens with each area leading into the next. We will take a break for lunch in Smithton one of the larger towns on the North West Coast. Following lunch there will be time to take in further sightseeing as we make a visit to historic Stanley. The estimated time back at the Hotel will be around 4:00pm. This will give you the chance to do some shopping in Burnie or just relax. Don t forget tonight you need to pack your small bag for the overnight Spirit crossing before the big challenge of making everything fit back into your large suitcase. Dinner in the Hotel dining room Beachfront Voyager

Day 15 - SATURDAY 17 th March DEVONPORT - MELBOURNE B-MT Depart the Hotel. A quick visit to the local Burnie markets We will then travel on the scenic coast road most of the way down to Devonport, passing the small towns of Penguin and Ulverstone. The main attraction on our agenda this morning is the Kentish District town of Sheffield, noted for the collection of murals painted on the buildings. The artwork depicts the regions history and other aspects of local interest. Sheffield is set amidst farmlands, at the foothills of The Great Western Tiers and Mount Roland. You may choose to have an early lunch during your time in Sheffield or wait until we arrive back in Devonport. Our sightseeing will take us through the Portland Cement Company town of Railton and then on through historic Latrobe to rejoin the Bass Highway. This will join the gap on your map as a full circle tour of Tasmania. 5.30pm we will board the Spirit for the overnight crossing sailing at 7.30pm. Day 16 - SUNDAY 18 th March MELBOURNE - GUNDAGAI B-MT-D 6:00am Estimated time of the Spirit s arrival at Melbourne Pier. Disembarking at 6.30am to rejoin the Coach You may purchase an early breakfast onboard before disembarking. Alternatively, we will be making our way through to Euroa where you will be provided with a Kings brunch style breakfast/morning tea. Another special feature of the day will be some time in the historic town of Beechworth. It will then be an easy afternoon run through to Gundagai for the last overnight stay of our tour. During dinner tonight there will be a chance to party a little, while you relive some of the experiences of your Tasmania holiday tour. Sovereign Inn Day 17 - MONDAY 19 th March GUNDAGAI - NEWCASTLE B-MT 5:30pm Depart the Motel for our return travel to Newcastle. We know from past experiences you will be anxious now to get home. Travel today will be via the Hume Highway, M7 through the western suburbs of Sydney and the M1 Freeway. A morning tea stop will be made in Goulburn and the coach will stop for lunch (own expense) at the Mittagong RSL Club Bistro, where there is a variety of food at reasonable prices.
